This virtual factory is shown to be very efficient for development of advanced process technology evaluation of process manufacturability, and improvement of existing fabrication processes. By using computer aids, the design and manufacturability of the target technology can be evaluated prior to actual silicon processing, and a company can establish a competitive edge in manufacturing. The technical limitations of computer-aided design tools and the managerial responsibilities in adopting a virtual manufacturing system for integrated circuits manufacturing are also discussed.","PeriodicalId":138196,"journal":{"name":"IEMC 96 Proceedings. Since some types of information technology services can be used to enhance the firm's competitive position in the industry, firms are faced with the difficult task of deciding which services should be outsourced. In this paper, Analytic Hierarchy Process is proposed as a tool that can effectively handle the complex, qualitative decision variables involved in IT outsourcing decision making. The authors used the ISO standardization (ISO 9000-3: Standard for QA in design/development, production, installation and servicing) as the basis of the methodology and refined it with well known related process models. It is not limited to the standard but also concerns human factors regarding the continual improvements toward the quality system within training programs and group-work. Kocaoglu","doi":"10.1109/IEMC.1996.547917","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/IEMC.1996.547917","url":null,"abstract":"A new aggregation method-Minimum Distance Method (MDMJ)-was developed to support the group decision process and to help decision makers achieve consensus under the framework of AHP. MDM employs the general distance concept, and is proven to be very appealing to the compromise nature of a group decision making. It preserves all characteristics of the functional equations approach proposed by Aczel and Saaty (1987). MDM is based on a goal programming model, which is easy to solve by using optimization software such as LINDO. Using the goal programming model, MDM provides the weighted membership capability. Sensitivity analysis can be performed to investigate the effect of varying the decision makers' relative importance in terms of weights in the goal programming model. When combined, the three conceptual models form an integrated enterprise management model that is equally applicable to single firms operating in extended enterprises and to multi-firm virtual enterprises.
