However, the cross-slot interference is caused by the asymmetry traffic between mobile subscribers and base stations, which can seriously degrade the system performance. In this paper, an efficient dynamic channel assignment with channel locked (DCA/CL) is investigated for TDD-CDMA communication systems. The cell is divided into three sections by directional antennas. The above tri-sector cell architecture possesses additional orthogonality inherently due to the directivity of directional antenna, which can provide an additional degree of freedom in allocating radio resource with the channel locked directly in the section of the neighbor cell. Further, the proposed scheme is combined with transmission power control to decrease the interference, and is also evaluated by computer simulation. The results show it efficiently reduces the failure probability and achieves better system performance.","PeriodicalId":137660,"journal":{"name":"2008 4th IEEE International Conference on Circuits and Systems for Communications","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132498476","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, the equivalence of the two demodulation methods is established. In addition, the complexities of the two demodulators with arbitrary mapping constellations are reduced by reducing the number of matrix inverse operations in the preceding block processing. The comparison of the computational complexities demonstrates that the LMMSE demodulator is simpler than the one using the vector GA algorithm. Since the performances of the two methods are equivalent, the less complex LMMSE method has the advantage over the vector GA one for the SISO iterative detection.","PeriodicalId":137660,"journal":{"name":"2008 4th IEEE International Conference on Circuits and Systems for Communications","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125325501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We present an optimized receiver front-end design obtained by a systematic design space exploration technique based on the platform-based design (PBD) methodology. At the system level, we investigate the interference effects and propose an approach to estimate the inter-modulation products introduced by receiver nonlinearities. We show how we map the system-level performance requirements to circuit-level platforms through an optimization process. We obtain a RF front-end consuming 10.8 mW in a 0.13 mum CMOS technology, which achieves a 22.3% savings of power compared to a manually optimized design.","PeriodicalId":137660,"journal":{"name":"2008 4th IEEE International Conference on Circuits and Systems for Communications","volume":"39 16","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120822433","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Multi-path routing protocols try to use multiple simultaneous paths to transfer data messages. While it might increase the bandwidth and the delivery ratio, it also distributes the traffic load more evenly over the network. This load balance can be used to increase the lifetime of a MANET, as it will avoid using only one route for many times. This article explores the load balance technique showing that it is possible to increase the network lifetime up to 22 minutes using this technique alone. The energy consumption of a MANET unit can be split into control (59%), data (34%) and routing (7%) packets. The energy used only by the network interface card can also be separated into the energy used by sending or receiving packets, in this case approximately 89% is used to receive packets. All these values were obtained through simulations on GloMoSim, performed using real values from a Compaq WL110 network interface card connected to an HP IPAQ 3600 handheld.","PeriodicalId":137660,"journal":{"name":"2008 4th IEEE International Conference on Circuits and Systems for Communications","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117135901","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The popular distributed coordination function (DCF) of IEEE 802.11 medium access control (MAC) protocol adopts a binary exponential back-off (BEB) procedure to reduce the packet collision probability in WLANs. In DCF, the size of contention window is doubled upon a collision regardless of the network loads. This paper presents an adaptive MAC scheme to improve the QoS of VoIP in WLANs. This scheme applies a threshold of the collision rate to switch between two different functions for increasing the size of contention window based on the status of network loads. The performance of this scheme is investigated and compared to the original DCF using the network simulator NS-2. The performance results reveal that the adaptive scheme is able to achieve the higher throughput and medium utilization as well as lower access delay and packet loss probability than the original DCF.","PeriodicalId":137660,"journal":{"name":"2008 4th IEEE International Conference on Circuits and Systems for Communications","volume":"36 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117324752","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
