At first, a concept of \"Pict-script\" is introduced. Pict-script is a language using pictograms,and it has following features. (1) It has high flexibility. It can be used for not only consecutive expressions but also diagrammatic expressions. (2) It is usable by not only people with disabilities but also people in general. It can be used for various styles of communication. (3) Its output can indicate the user’s feelings. (4) It promotes communication. (5) A picture is not necessarily correspond to a word. Second, a communication system based on the concept of pict-script is proposed. Moreover, features of proposed system is discussed.","PeriodicalId":137627,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Biometrics and Kansei Engineering","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116640418","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This therapy consists of talking, touching, and interacting with a robot, like a pet, in order to obtain comfort. Some such pet robots have already been built. In order to feel comforted, not only must robots have emotions but also they should interpret human emotions and be considerate of others. The software named \"Lea\" has two original concepts that are an emotion dictionary and a behavior database. Lea receives voice input, and a Graphical User Interface (GUI) displays text and expressive facial graphics. Experiments with Lea have shown that 79% of people reacted positively in spite of lowness that is 57% adequacy of reactions. It is considered that cuteness and friendliness redeemed inappropriate reactions. It issues that enhancing the accuracy of inferring the user’s emotion and deciding the reaction in the future.","PeriodicalId":137627,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Biometrics and Kansei Engineering","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115480918","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper also presents a fast version of the iteration algorithm and describes the result of comparative experimentation in execution time. The result shows that the proposed algorithm executes more than six times faster than the GS one, while it requires the same memory storage as GS one, and this proves the effectiveness of the iteration method.","PeriodicalId":137627,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Biometrics and Kansei Engineering","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114295957","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The problem of predicting time series can be classified into three in a practical sense. The first problem is how to make a model for prediction, that adequately represents the characteristics of the past time series data. The second problem is how to correctly detect the structural change of the time series as soon as possible, when the estimated prediction model does not meet the real data. The third problem is how to quickly find the new prediction model to meet the real data after the structural change. This paper focuses on the second problem and proposes a method based on a probability ratio test that has been used in the field of the quality control. This paper also shows some experimental results comparing with a conventional method, and presents the effectiveness of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":137627,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Biometrics and Kansei Engineering","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130084884","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this research is to propose a Kansei-library search system. Based on observing how children search, select and find books, we proposed a new system named 'MeguLook' which children can use intuitively (without knowing how to operate the system) and easily without special knowledge about the book. From an evaluation analysis, we confirmed that many people, including children can feel 'pleasure searching for and selecting their favorite books' using 'MeguLook'.","PeriodicalId":137627,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Conference on Biometrics and Kansei Engineering","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133102084","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
