Rasayana refers to the nutritional essence reaching all body tissue components to nourish and replenish them. It enhances longevity, intelligence, health, youth, skin, voice, and motor and sensory strength. Rasayana herbs are used in decoctions or powder to achieve this, enhancing various dhatu (tissues) and promoting overall health. Ashwagandha, Pippali, Guduchi, and Yashtimadhu are herbs known for their anti-oxidant properties. Rasasindura, a rasashaudhi used to treat various illnesses, is a kupipakwa preparation with shuddha parada and shuddha gandhaka. These Rasaushadhi are effective in small doses and can enhance the efficacy of herbal drugs when added to formulations. Method: In this study a tablet (R9 vati) was prepared with and without rasasindura. The prepared samples were subjected to various physico chemical analysis. Observation and result: Increase in the value of Total ash, Alcohol and Water soluble extractive, uniformity of  weight, Hardness, and decrease in the value of   Loss on drying, Water soluble ash was observed in R9 vati prepared with rasasindura. This luxurious life also leading to worries and tension and in consequence a number of life style related disorders like cancer, renal diseases, AIDS, Parkinson’s disease, Auto-immune disorders, SLE etc. Cancer is more serious concern because of its increasing incidence with high mortality and morbidity rate. In Ayurveda we found many conditions which mimic the symptoms of cancer and detailed knowledge regarding its management also available. Colon cancer is third leading diagnosed type of cancer. Different treatment protocols available for management depending on the stage of cancer. Treatment modalities most commonly used are surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. However, the disadvantage of radiotherapy and chemotherapy are the development of therapy related temporary and permanent adverse effects. Here a case of 42 years old male patient post hemicolectomy for adenocarcinoma of right colon who refused for chemotherapy, treated with Ayurveda medications having Rasayan, Jeevaniya, vatahara properties like Sanjivani vati which have shown remarkable results and also gained 8 kg weight during treatment is discussed here.","PeriodicalId":13751,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Ayurvedic Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2024-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139629201","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Regarding the Ayurvedic care of idiopathic edema, there aren't many published case reports or clinical trials on PubMed despite the disease's widespread prevalence. In this case report, we propose an important Ayurvedic perspective that takes into consideration the exact location of the manifestation in addition to its origin while selecting methods to treat idiopathic edema. Methods: A 63-year-old male patient complained of persistent right leg edema and blackish discoloration for 18 months while he visited the outpatient department of Kayachikitsa Government Ayurved College & Hospital, Nagpur. In previous times, the patient had sought treatment from doctors who practiced modern medicine without receiving any improvement. The patient was diagnosed as having idiopathic edema after a comprehensive investigation of all possible causes and was then treated according to the Ayurvedic concept of Shoth, which is linked to the origin of Pakwashaya (gut). Along with oral medications, the treatment included Basti (a medicated enema). Results: Interestingly, the patient's quality of life significantly improved, and the edema completely disappeared after the course of treatment. Conclusion: This case study provides insightful information on the importance of disease origin and manifestation sites in the Ayurvedic management of idiopathic edema. It also emphasizes the significance of further research on the role that the gut plays in the pathophysiology of idiopathic edema. ","PeriodicalId":13751,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Ayurvedic Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2024-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139629399","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study includes evaluating the antimicrobial activity of the extracts using the agar well diffusion method and preparing plant extract-infused gauze and ointment. Different solvents were used to extract the plant compounds using the Soxhlet apparatus. Antimicrobial activity of the extracts was tested against microorganisms isolated from infected wound samples, cultivated on various media (Nutrient agar, Cetrimide agar, Blood agar, MacConkey agar, and MRSA). Minimum inhibitory concentration was determined using the agar well diffusion method, identifying the antimicrobial efficacy of the plant extracts. The ethanolic extract of Tridax procumbens exhibited the highest antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, among other test organisms (Streptococcus, Pseudomonas, Proteus sp.,) isolated from the infected wound samples. Phytochemical tests were conducted to identify bioactive compounds responsible for wound healing, which were subsequently isolated using column chromatography and purified via thin layer chromatography. FTIR analysis was performed to determine the functional groups present, and HPLC was conducted for further characterization. The presence of flavonoids, tannins and terpenoids in the plant extracts was identified as the active ingredients responsible for wound healing. Furthermore, a gauze infused with plant extracts was prepared to facilitate wound healing and an ointment was formulated using the ethanolic extract of Tridax procumbens and an ointment base. \u0000 ","PeriodicalId":13751,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Ayurvedic Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2024-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139629458","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study advanced chromatographic studies were conducted for the assessment of processed and non-processed Piper nigrum Linn.  Ayurvedic pharmaceutical is enriched in a wide range of preparations. The specific methods are applied for different formulation preparations.  Laghumaini vasant is a herbomineral formulation in which one of the ingredients is P. nigrum. In this formulation, the special process is advocated for P.nigrum.Linn. P nigrum should be soaked in buttermilk till the outer black covering is removed. There are possibilities that some changes may occur due to this process. Hence this study focused on the comparative assessment of processed P. nigrum and non-processed P.nigrum. For assessment chromatography techniques were used. HPLC and HPTLC methods were used to get more precise results.   High-Performance Thin Layer and High performance Liquid Chromatography were studied by using piperine as a reference standard. The piperine bands were seen in both processed and non-processed P.nigrum when analysed through both techniques. But, HPLC method has shown that piperine recovery is more in processed P.nigrum. In non-processed P.nigrum twenty seven peaks were observed but after processing with Buttermilk twenty one peaks were seen. The small six peaks were missing in processed P.nigrum.","PeriodicalId":13751,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Ayurvedic Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2024-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139629479","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Method: The extract used for preparing the cream was obtained by extracting the coriander leaves by maceration followed by Soxhlet extraction method. The extract was evaluated for phytochemical analysis to determine whether chemical constituents were present. The extract was evaluated for anti-bacterial test to check for zones of inhibition using disc diffusion method. Anti-solar activity of the extract was also studied to check for sun protective effect by using UV-Spectrophotometer in the range of 200-400 nm. For the development of cream, the oil and water phases were melted separately into which coriander extract and a suitable preservative was added with continuous stirring. The oil phase was gradually combined into the aqueous phase while continuously stirring to achieve the ideal semi-solid consistency, and an appropriate perfume was used for a pleasing smell. The prepared formulations were evaluated for parameters like organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, spreadability, type of emulsion, skin irritation test. Results: Phytochemical analysis of coriander extract was performed, and it was concluded that terpenoids, sterols, carbohydrates, alkaloids, tannins, and flavonoids were present and saponins was found to be absent. The diameters of the zones obtained for the anti- microbial activity of the extract was found out to be 18 mm and 14 mm for dapsone. The extract showed good antimicrobial activity against dapsone and methanol. The UV absorption spectra showed a strong absorption at 4.00 AU at 205 nm. SPF values were calculated using normalized product function and mean of absorbance, and the obtained SPF value was found out to be 8.2. The prepared formulations were found to be smooth and dark green in colour with a pleasant odour. All the formulations were checked for other parameters like optimum pH, viscosity, spreadability and it was found out that formulation batch F3 showed better results as compared to other batches.","PeriodicalId":13751,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Ayurvedic Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2024-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139629261","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The toothbrush-dentifrice combination is an essential aid in preventing them. There are several commercial chemical toothpastes available, but as of late herbal toothpastes have become more popular amongst people. Thus, the aim of this study was to formulate a novel herbal dentifrice with Myristica fragrans (Houtt.) (nutmeg), and compare its physicochemical properties with a commercially available herbal dentifrice without nutmeg. Material and method: A pilot study was conducted wherein the toothpaste was formulated under sterile conditions using various concentrations of nutmeg, tulsi leaves powder and clove powder as the main herbal ingredients. All herbal ingredients were 100% organic and certified by the Food Safety and Standard Authority of India (FSSAI). Its properties were compared and evaluated with a commercial herbal toothpaste and the most optimum formulation was then selected to be a part of the study. The properties evaluated were organoleptic parameters (colour, texture, appearance, taste, odour), pH, foamability, abrasiveness, gritty matter, homogeneity, stability and spreadability. Results: The results revealed that in comparison to the commercial herbal toothpaste, the formulated herbal toothpaste with nutmeg exhibited improved foaming ability, abrasivity, spreadability; and comparable texture, consistency, colour, gritty matter, homogeneity and stability properties. However, it had less favourable odour and taste. Conclusion: The overall results of the research provide convincing evidence of the satisfactory physicochemical properties of the nutmeg toothpaste. However, further research is warranted to test other significant properties of the toothpaste.","PeriodicalId":13751,"journal":{"name":"International Journal of Ayurvedic Medicine","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.2,"publicationDate":"2024-01-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139629301","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
