It is shown that the designed filter can be significantly simplified for a dynamic system state governed by a differential equation. The filtering problems are considered over observations with single time delay, multiple delays, and a set of delays of the continuum power.","PeriodicalId":137513,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 38th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (Cat. The algorithm allows for complex nonlinear continuous dynamics, yet the numerical difficulty in computing solutions increases greatly with the order and complexity of these dynamics. In this paper, the best known nonlinearity indices are briefly recalled within the framework of a fairly general unifying view. Based on the argument that any I/O feedback linearizable system (nonlinear system which is properly I/O linearizable by (output) feedback) should not, in a sense, be thought of as really nonlinear, the notion of a nonlinearity index is properly extended to that of nonlinearizability index. Both model-based and data-based methods for the computation of nonlinearizability indices are briefly discussed.","PeriodicalId":137513,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 38th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (Cat. These canonical forms are alternatives to state-space forms and can be represented by higher-order differential equations. For planning and control purposes, these canonical forms provide a number of advantages when compared to their corresponding first-order forms. We address the question of optimization of dynamic systems described by higher-order differential equations. The minimum principle for higher-order systems is derived directly from their higher-order forms. The results are illustrated by an example.","PeriodicalId":137513,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 38th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (Cat. (1999) of the geometric approach to the design of feedback laws for solving the regulator problem for regular linear control systems. The approach used in the above mentioned article is based on another paper (Byrnes et al., 1998) which treats the infinite dimensional theory of output regulation for bounded control and observation operators. In the first mentioned article, the authors have characterized the solvability of both state and error feedback regulator problems in terms of the solvability of certain regulator equations in the case of unbounded input and output operators. In this paper we present a simple example of set point control for a one dimensional heat equation. We have selected a simple example for which analytic and numerical solutions are readily obtained and the explicit implementation of these feedback design strategies can be easily identified.","PeriodicalId":137513,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 38th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (Cat. The fixed-lag smoothing algorithm is developed by applying the basic interacting multiple model (IMM) approach and joint probabilistic data association (JPDA) technique to a state-augmented system. The algorithm is illustrated via a simulation example. Compared to the IMM/JPDA filtering algorithm, the proposed smoothing algorithm achieves significant improvement in the accuracy of track estimation by introducing a small time lag between the instants of estimation and latest measurements whereas the computational load for target state estimation increases linearly with lag and that for data association remains the same.","PeriodicalId":137513,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 38th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (Cat. Users initiate calls that belong to a set of diverse service classes. The SP charges a fee per call, which can depend on the current congestion level, and which affects users' demand for calls. We provide a dynamic programming formulation of the problems of revenue and welfare maximization, and derive qualitative properties of the optimal solution. We show that the performance of an optimal pricing strategy is closely matched by a suitably chosen static price, which does not depend on instantaneous congestion. We establish that static pricing is asymptotically optimal in a number of limiting regimes, including one of many, relatively small users. In nonstationary demand conditions this leads to the easily implementable time-of-day pricing. Throughout, we compare the alternative formulations involving revenue or welfare maximization, respectively, and draw some qualitative conclusions.","PeriodicalId":137513,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 38th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (Cat. In particular, we realize a fuzzy multimodeling of each transition of the VCPN. Each fuzzy rule is linear. The main advantage of the proposed method is that we provide after defuzzification the exact modeling of variable speed continuous Petri nets. Then a control strategy is elaborated and applied to VCPNs. Using this fuzzy multimodel, we develop a fuzzy control for variable speed continuous Petri nets and give efficient results on convergence for the global system. Upper and lower bounds of the convergence are presented. Finally, an example is worked out for the fuzzy control of VCPNs by the mean of a proportional control law.","PeriodicalId":137513,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 38th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (Cat. The main idea is to use a new time varying weighting function, which has the potential of reducing the amount of computation needed and providing better performance, stability and robustness compared with traditional GPC. To take full advantage of the new algorithm, a broad analysis is proposed to help the engineer in selecting suitable parameters without being entangled in trial and error, which could lead to difficulties in system operation.","PeriodicalId":137513,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 38th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (Cat.
