The model describes the propagation of the reflected signals that are able to reach the receiver as a consequence of all the scatterers located inside the system coverage area. The establishment of a particular geometry characterizing the system coverage area allows the behavior of the multipath phenomenon effects to be modeled accurately.","PeriodicalId":137431,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Workshop on Satellite and Space Communications","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124912143","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper examines the impact of using ECN with Quality of Service classification for Internet paths that include a satellite delay. Specifically, it provides a practical analysis of the impact when multimedia applications using the User Datagram Protocol are transmitted over a network path for which ECN is enabled. Since ECN impacts the end-to-end performance, the paper discusses the effect of a larger path delay, as found in a satellite environment. The method is shown to offer benefit to a satellite operator and the network user.","PeriodicalId":137431,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Workshop on Satellite and Space Communications","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127265241","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A set of 13 characteristic mission scenarios is derived from the worldwide publicly available information on 73 currently planned or even initiated science missions. Missions from all major space agencies to a variety of targets such as Moon, Planets, small bodies or Lagrange points, have been considered. The key features of these missions are the basis for deriving the major drivers of the communication and navigation systems which, in turn, can support the planning of future technology-development activities.","PeriodicalId":137431,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Workshop on Satellite and Space Communications","volume":"444 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132700789","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

DVB-RCS networks operate at Ku band and above. At these frequencies, rain attenuation is the dominant fading mechanism and exhibits significant spatial-temporal variation among the users. Firstly, the resource allocation is modeled as a non cooperative game and we find the Nash equilibrium employing the Nikaido-Isoda function and a relaxation algorithm. Moreover, we force the game to converge to a more fair equilibrium point, by introducing a pricing scheme. The bandwidth allocation to users that are affected more by rain fading is improved. Finally, we apply the principles of a cooperative game to describe the problem of resource allocation and we compare the results of the three approaches. Some useful conclusions are drawn.","PeriodicalId":137431,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Workshop on Satellite and Space Communications","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133205942","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The bandwidth overhead is negligible, and authentication information are transmitted from the sender to all the receivers by means of a watermarking technique. Real time constraints are achieved by using a features computation algorithm, the sender embeds in each block of pictures the features computed over the current block, and a message authentication code that authenticates them. The receiver computes the features over the received block and compares it with that ones authenticated and extracted from the current block.","PeriodicalId":137431,"journal":{"name":"2009 International Workshop on Satellite and Space Communications","volume":"210 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-10-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122629184","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
