In these networks, the activation functions are described by discrete wavelet functions. Due to the promising properties of time-frequency localization and multi-resolution signal processing of the wavelet transform combined with the approximation capability of artificial neural networks, WNNs have found applications in dynamic system identification field during the past years. The paper aims at the development of the WNN based on traditional firefly algorithm (FA). The proposed FA is based on Tinkerbell map to tune the spread of wavelets and number of selected wavelet bases. The FA is a stochastic metaheuristic approach based on the idealized behaviour of the flashing characteristics of fireflies. In FA, the flashing light can be formulated in such a way that it is associated with the objective function to be optimized, which makes it possible to formulate the firefly algorithm. The efficacy of WNN with FA tuning is tested on the identification of a multivariable thermal process.","PeriodicalId":136720,"journal":{"name":"Eurocon 2013","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122381687","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Usually, it is manually measured by marking a few points on a B-mode ultrasound scan image of the CCA. By applying image segmentation techniques, the IMT can be detected along the artery length. A desirable feature of this process is the automation, avoiding the user dependence and the inter-rater variability. This work aims to find an effective segmentation method that allows the IMT measurement in an automatic way. Following this idea, this paper proposes an effective approach based on learning machines. The segmentation task is raised as a pattern recognition problem. Single Layer Feed-Forward Networks (SLFN) are designed and trained by means of the Optimally Pruned-Extreme Learning Machine (OP-ELM) algorithm to classify the pixels from a given ultrasound image, allowing the extraction of IMT boundaries. The proposed method has been tested using a set of 25 ultrasound images and several quantitative statistical evaluations have shown its accuracy and robustness.","PeriodicalId":136720,"journal":{"name":"Eurocon 2013","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122079358","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Knowing the exact location of each sensor in the network is very important issue. Therefore, the localization problem is a growing field of interest. Adding GPS receivers to each sensor node is costly solution and inapplicable on nodes with limited resources. Additionally, it is not suitable for indoor environments. In this paper, we propose an algorithm for nodes localization in WNS based on multidimensional scaling (MDS) technique. Our approach improves MDS by distance matrix refinement. Using extensive simulations we investigated in details our approach regarding different network topologies, various network parameters and performance issues. The results from simulations show that our improved MDS (IMDS) algorithm outperforms well known MDS-MAP algorithm [1] in terms of accuracy.","PeriodicalId":136720,"journal":{"name":"Eurocon 2013","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128804438","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The minimum sampling rate for blind acquisition of these signals is 2NB, with N the number of bands and B their bandwidth. The MWC performs at a rate 4NB; it features a factor 2 more sampling channels in parallel than the minimum. Investigated is a new CS paradigm, one that changes its compression matrix over time. It is believed that through this, the sampling rate can be brought to the minimum. Numerical simulations are performed to check the feasibility of the approach.","PeriodicalId":136720,"journal":{"name":"Eurocon 2013","volume":"39 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124784275","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It was demonstrated that device parameters such as dye concentration and film thickness significantly influence the PV response of the LSC device. In particular, a maximum power conversion efficiency gain of about 43% was achieved on optimized devices. The interpretation of the observed trends was supported by UV-VIS, fluorescence and EQE measurements. Following optimization of device parameters, thin-film LSCs were exposed in air to continuous illumination under strong free-radical generating conditions to investigate the photo-stability of the LSC materials. In addition, the chemical modifications occurring to the organic dye molecule were correlated with the operational stability of the working LSC device, thus clarifying the effect of dye photo-degradation on device performance.","PeriodicalId":136720,"journal":{"name":"Eurocon 2013","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129193703","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since multimedia services may contain several media flows, the number and properties of which may vary during an ongoing session, and because user preferences regarding flow importance may also vary, we use “user” and “service” related knowledge at session initiation to specify alternative service configurations that can be enforced in cases of decreased resource availability. We apply this knowledge in the context of admission control, by proposing an algorithm allowing for sessions to be admitted with lower quality configurations in cases when there are not enough resources to admit optimal (highest quality) configurations. We hence show that such an approach leads to an increase in session admission probability. We evaluate the proposed model using a developed simulator tool named ADAPTISE that simulates arrivals, durations and resource allocation of multimedia services. Furthermore, we have rerun the ADAPTISE simulation traces in an LTE network simulator tool to test session performance metrics.","PeriodicalId":136720,"journal":{"name":"Eurocon 2013","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129201402","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The design of the biped was such that its features were anthropomorphic with respect to locomotion. Real time data acquisitions were performed to capture the results, and the experimental data of the walking trajectories were analysed and verified against simulations. A challenge with such applications is to provide the best possible quality of experience (QoE) under changing conditions. In particular, it would be highly desirable to be able to predict the QoE perceived by users in response to adaptation, prior to actual deployment. However, there are no QoE prediction models for tele-immersive applications. Instead QoE is evaluated after deployment using either objective or subjective assessment techniques. Unfortunately, objective assessment lacks the accuracy of human perception. At the same time, subjective assessment requires human-provided ratings of the applications, which is time consuming and thus not cost-effective. In this paper, we propose QoE prediction models that will accurately predict the user-perceived QoE of a tele-immersive conferencing application. The proposed models are cost-effective and lend themselves to fast evaluation cycles, because the models does not involve human-provided ratings. We validate our models using results from subjective assessment experiments. The models can be used for real-time monitoring of user-perceived QoE, in addition to designing QoE-driven adaptation for tele-immersive applications.","PeriodicalId":136720,"journal":{"name":"Eurocon 2013","volume":"424 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114831104","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
