Existing global data brokers have traded the data products in categorized and listed. Data has been traditionally managed in closed form or limited to specific industries and eco-systems. However, we are faced on the fourth Industrial Revolution, where diverse data is based on utilization, data is becoming a core competence for change and the future. Finding the value in Big Data has been generalized and responded to the change. Also, there is a great demand for revitalization of data processing and utilization of data for industrial application. To support these requirements, the data must be traded in a way that can be easily utilized according to the data analytics and perception process. This is a key technology in the data broker industry, which will enhance data-driven industries.","PeriodicalId":135438,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Cognitive Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132782564","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Boldyrev). Based on the assumption that cultural knowledge takes an important place in human’s conceptual system this paper focuses on revealing culture-derivative “state” senses and aims at defining language means of their representation in modern English. Methods: The language units representing the interpretative stative function of linguistic cognition form the category of linguistic stativity, which is analyzed with the help of the Prototype theory. The method of cognitive-discursive interpretant provides revealing cultural specificity in “state” senses representation in modern English. Findings: The result of the analysis states that cultural specificity appears on the systematic and discursive levels. The system of the English language abounds in lexical and syntactical ways of expressing culture-specific “state” senses. Among the most numerous are phraseological units, motion verbs reinterpreted in connection with inner organs, emotive interjections, English proverbs and sayings as verbalizations of psychologically significant states. Improvement: The study of cultural specificity in “state” senses representation in modern English contributes, on the one hand, to explaining the correlation between language and cognitive structures and, on the other – to issues of intercultural communication.","PeriodicalId":135438,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Cognitive Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131974993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A test was devised to examine participants’ receptive knowledge of body-part idioms. Participants’ performance was assessed in relation to similarity of idioms to L1 and their level of transparency, moderated by language proficiency. The variables were carefully operationalised, and the data was analysed following a mixed method design employing think-aloud (TA) protocols. The findings reveal that language proficiency and the scores on the test of idioms correlate significantly. Similarity to L1 and the level of transparency of idioms also correlated significantly with the scores on the test of idioms. The findings also show interesting insights related to body-part lexis, such as imageability, concreteness and familiarity.","PeriodicalId":135438,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Cognitive Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129957134","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Eye mouse is an input device which can reflect cognitive intentions of a user immediately from a user`s eye(s). In this study, the functions of eye mouse, such as click, double-click, drag and scroll, was investigated and evaluated by supposing real computer interaction situation. In this study, usability of the different operation methods of eye mouse which correspond to the functions of conventional mouse was investigated and evaluated. The experimental result showed that there was performance difference between the different operation methods of eye mouse. The questionnaire result also showed that there was satisfaction difference between the different operation methods of eye mouse. The result of this study made us know what is the pros and cons about usability on the use of eye mouse. The result of this study can help to comprehend interfaces for eye mouse, and can contribute to the establishment of guidelines for development in interface design and operation methods for eye mouse.","PeriodicalId":135438,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Cognitive Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130738057","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thirty-four college students with high-intermediate English proficiency participated in an eye-tracking experiment and a flanker task. The eye-tracking results show that the participants predict upcoming words, thereby incrementally processing English sentences in a similar manner to L1 speakers. The eye-movement patterns indicate that they actively made use of combinatory information extracted from subject and verb and real-world knowledge. The results from a flanker task, as a measurement of inhibitory controls, reveal that the flanker effect of accuracy, but not the flanker effect of RT, is significantly correlated with anticipatory processing. That is, the participants who responded to the flankers more accurately were better and faster in predicting the target object. In short, our study supports the constraint-based accounts for sentence processing in L2 suggesting that inhibitory controls as an index of cognitive functions can be another constraint on predictive sentence processing.","PeriodicalId":135438,"journal":{"name":"The Journal of Cognitive Science","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-03-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123854432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
