There are 35.6 million people worldwide with AD, and the number of patients will double in the next 30 years. AD is a common problem seen by neurologists, family physicians, geriatrics and psychiatrists who all should be familiar the diagnosis and course in order to best advise families. AD is the most common cause of dementia, in which memory is affected and at least one other cognitive domain. The disease has an insidious onset and gradual progression. Donepezil, rivastigmine, galantamine, and memantine are used to treat dementia in AD.
