Lycopodium clavatum is the most widely used drug in homoeopathy for treating hyperuricaemia and gout. However, its mechanism of action in reducing serum uric acid remains uncertain. ObjectiveObjective: The objective of the study was to study the potential role of homoeopathic preparation of Lycopodium clavatum in different potencies on monosodium urate crystallisation in vitro. MethodsMethods: Spectrophotometric crystallisation assay was carried out on a stock solution of 5 ml of uric acid after its preparation. The time course of the optical density was measured in a standard solution and values were measured every 5 min after agitation with cyclo-vortex mixer. The optical density values were also measured in the homoeopathic preparation of Lycopodium clavatum in different potencies with same method. Inhibiting effect of this medicine was found from graphs by measuring slope of nucleation and aggregation from optical density value and the percentage inhibition exerted by the proteins was calculated. ResultsResults: Spectrophotometric analysis showed all potencies of Lycopodium clavatum inhibited aggregation of monosodium urate crystals with a maximum inhibition at 200C and 1M potency. ConclusionConclusion: We found that the homoeopathic medicine Lycopodium clavatum could be effective in inhibiting the formation of monosodium urate crystals in vitro and also causes the dissolution of crystals, especially in high potencies. Further studies are required to understand the exact mechanism of action.","PeriodicalId":13469,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"48911224","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is highly contagious and produces severe acute respiratory syndrome. Many homoeopathic medicines have been suggested for treatment of COVID cases and reports have also been published. Case Summary: The present case report is of a 61-year-old COVID-positive, male, presenting with complications such as bronchitis and pleural effusion. He was treated for COVID-19 with a suitable homoeopathic medicine, based on the totality of symptoms, while the patient continued his regular regime of conventional medicine for diabetes mellitus and hypertension. The indicated remedy led to immediate relief of the symptoms, especially chest pain, along with a marked improvement in the laboratory investigations. The Modified Naranjo Criteria score after treatment was 8, which explicitly shows the positive causal attribution of the individualised homoeopathic medicine, Phosphorus, in this case. Homoeopathic treatment has shown favourable results in this case and demonstrates the scope of Homoeopathy in infectious cases. Surgery has been the mainstay of treatment for Reinke’s edema. Thus, patients are often left with practically no non-invasive treatment option. Case Summary: This is the case of a 40-year-old male, teacher, who presented with hoarseness of voice for 1 year and opted for homeopathic treatment when he was advised surgery. A rapid improvement in the symptoms, as well as significant objective improvement as confirmed with video laryngoscopy. The results were seen within 3 months of individualized homeopathic treatment. Oneyear follow-up revealed complete resolution of edema in both vocal cords. This case report shows a promising, non-invasive intervention option for such cases, wherein radical surgery and consequent prolonged voice therapy could be avoided. Clinical trials of several known antiviral drugs and vaccines have been done. Homoeopathy is known to be effective in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases as well as in overcoming some adverse effects of vaccination. Objectives: The objectives of this review were to identify the adverse effects of COVID-19 vaccination from the published literature and doing homoeopathic repertorisation to find out indicated remedies for alleviating the ill effects of COVID-19 vaccines. Methods: Published literature was searched for ‘Covid-19’, ‘Vaccination’ and ‘Adverse events’ in PubMed between January 2020 and July 2021. The related symptoms pertaining to known adverse effects were picked and repertorised with appropriate rubrics from the ‘Vaccination’ chapter of Murphy’s clinical repertory and synthesis repertory. Results: Repertorial totality of identified symptoms was analysed. Thuja scored high when symptoms related to the adverse effects of COVID-19 vaccines were repertorised according to Murphy’s and synthesis repertories. Indications of the common remedies for the ill-effects identified for COVID-19 vaccination are discussed. Conclusion: Vaccines against nCoV19 are still not fully researched, especially for their longterm effects. Hence, whether they would prove to be friends or foes to humankind, in the long run, is the arena of future research. Meanwhile, homoeopathy can lend its services to overcome the ill effects of the vaccination. Studies with rigorous designs to find out the efficacy of homoeopathic medicines in relieving the adverse effects of vaccination are suggested. Women with polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) have mostly anovulatory cycles and low serum progesterone levels. Endometrial hyperplasia is most often due to excess oestrogen without progesterone. The clinical significance of chronic oestrogen secretion is an increased risk of endometrial hyperplasia. A striking feature of uterine fibroids (UFs) is their dependency on the ovarian oestrogen and progesterone. Existing treatments are mostly directed at the symptoms but not at the syndrome itself. Case Summary: A patient suffering from PCOS, with Endometrial Hyperplasia and multiple UFs, was successfully treated with the homoeopathic medicine Pulsatilla nigricans. Repeat ultrasonography showed normal endometrial thickness, no hyperechoic or hypoechoic lesions in uterus and no ovarian PCOS morphology after treatment. Thus, the usefulness of homeopathic medicines for the treatment of multi-morbid pathologies related to reproductive system of women is demonstrated.","PeriodicalId":13469,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-09-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44924245","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is characterised by menstrual irregularities, enlarged ovaries, infertility, high levels of male hormones, excess hair on the face and body, acne and obesity. PCOS can result from abnormal function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis. Women with PCOS have an increased risk of diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease and endometrial cancer. Case Summary: A case series of seven PCOS patients treated with indicated constitutional homoeopathic medicines at Nehru Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital, New Delhi, India, is presented here. Overall improvement was assessed by improvement in signs and symptoms like restoration of regular menstrual cycles, weight loss, and disappearance of ovarian cysts, as evident in ultrasonography reports, and improved scores of the integrative Medicine Outcome Scale (IMOS) scale and quality of life (WHOQOL-BREF) . The resolution of cysts in the ovaries, along with marked symptomatic improvement and improvement in quality of life in all seven patients, shows that homoeopathy has a potential for treating PCOS. Gradation of IMOS scale reduced to 1 in all seven patients after treatment showing complete recovery. One patient, who had presented with infertility, conceived during the treatment. Homoeopathic medicines such as Natrum muriaticum, Lycopodium clavatum, Silicea terra, Pulsatilla nigricans and Sepia were found most useful.
