The customary way of individualisation of the patient is through the construction of totality of symptoms. The little explored area in Homoeopathy is individualisation solely based on personality characteristics. Objective: The objective of this study was to compare the effect of individualised homoeopathic medicine administered based on totality of symptoms vis-à-vis personality in patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis. Methods: The observational study includes 60 clinically diagnosed cases of osteoarthritis knee, of which 30 cases were administered the homoeopathic medicine selected on the basis of totality of symptoms and thirty cases based on personality. Randomisation was done using computer-generated numbers. The personality of the patients was assessed through the 44-item Big-Five Inventory. A self-made tool, transcribing trait items to rubrics of the homoeopathic repertory, was prepared. The knee osteoarthritis scores on physical function, pain and patient global estimate in Routine Assessment of Patient Index Data 3 (RAPID3) sheet, before and after treatment, were compared. Results: The paired difference mean of RAPID3 in totality of symptom-based administration was 4.06 and for personality-based administration was 1.92 with a standard deviation of 3.91 and 3.29, respectively. The test result is statistically significant at 0.05 level (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Administration of individualised Homoeopathy medicine based on totality of symptoms is found to be more effective as compared to individualised Homoeopathy medicine based on personality amongst patients suffering from osteoarthritis knee.","PeriodicalId":13469,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47616911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This plant is proven scientifically to reduce blood glucose levels in the diabetic condition. However, till date, only little literature is published about the efficacy of GS prepared homoeopathically. Objective: In this study, we assessed the efficacy of homoeopathic preparation of GS (HPGS) in Q, 30C and 200C potencies in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: Diabetic rats were administered with 4.7 mL/kg of HPGS mother tincture (Q) for anti-hyperglycaemic efficacy on daily bases over a period of 14 days and HPGS Q, HPGS 30C and HPGS 200C potencies for dose-dependent testing on daily basis for 90 days. Results: On completion of treatment period, HPGS Q and HPGS 200C significantly reduced the blood glucose levels in diabetic rats (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Current research findings showed that HPGS mother tincture and HPGS 200C have the ability to lower blood glucose levels in diabetic rats, suggesting its efficacy in vivo.","PeriodicalId":13469,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44671472","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objectives: This study aimed to compile a list of prospective homoeopathic medicines for the treatment and prophylaxis of the COVID-19 epidemic by conducting a systematic review and statistical analysis of clinical characteristics of this emerging coronavirus disease. Materials and Methods: A> systematic review protocol was developed according to the reporting items of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses statement. Articles for review were selected from PubMed, World Health Organization database, MedRxiV, and BioRxiv. Studies in English and simplified Chinese from December 2019 to March 26 2020 were included. Data on clinical characteristics, laboratory and CT chest results of COVID-19 were extracted and analysed. Several symptoms and their intensity were statistically analysed. Results: Seventy-three studies were included. Amongst COVID-19 patients, fever (119.869 ± 24.425 [95% confidence intervals: 71.149–168.589]), dry cough (91.028 ± 19.555 [52.007–130.050]) and dyspnoea (24.594 ± 5.949 [12.722–36.465]) were the most common symptoms. Leucopenia (16.06 ± 5.07 [5.95–26.18]) in blood, ground-glass opacity (62.23 ± 18.82 [24.74–99.72]), patchy (21.48 ± 12.36 [3.13–46.11]) and consolidation (18.67 ± 9.18 [0.373–36.968]) in the lungs were observed. The selected sign and symptoms were repertorised, which resulted in a list of multiple homoeopathic medicines as potential medicines for COVID-19, led by Arsenic Album (94.59%) and Bryonia alba (91.89%). Conclusion: Considering the current clinical manifestations, this is a pioneer study related to finding a plausible list of homoeopathic medicines that might help the profession in the treatment as well as to select a prophylactic of COVID-19 disease.","PeriodicalId":13469,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"44905170","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The increased level of uric acid in urinary excretion can also lead to nephrolithiasis. It has also been implicated as an indicator for diseases such as metabolic syndrome, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease and chronic renal disease. Whereas homoeopathic literature enlists many medicines for this condition, there is a paucity of evidence-based published studies. Case Summary: The case presented here reported with the complaint of renal stone secondary to high serum uric acid levels. A single homoeopathic medicine Lycopodium was prescribed after thorough case taking which led to improvement in subjective symptoms and objectively reflecting in gradually decreasing levels of serum uric acid after elimination of stone. During the course of treatment, old symptoms also re-appeared depicting improvement in accordance with Hering's law of cure. The Modified Naranjo Criteria score after treatment was 8, which explicitly shows the positive causal attribution of the individualised homoeopathic medicine Lycopodium in this case. Homoeopathic treatment has shown favourable results in this case and demonstrates the scope of Homoeopathy in such cases.","PeriodicalId":13469,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"41701499","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, homoeopathic pathogenetic trial for Cuprum aceticum (Cu acet.) was taken up. Objective: To elicit the pathogenetic response to Cu acet. in homoeopathic potencies on healthy human provers. Materials and Methods: A multi-center, double-blind randomized, placebo controlled, trial was conducted at three centers of Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy. Proving was conducted on 50 relatively healthy provers selected after conducting the Pretrial Medical Examination. All the provers were given placebo during the first phase of the trial. In the next two phases, Cu acet. was administered in 6 C and 30 C potencies, in the intervention group (n = 34); and placebo in the placebo group (n = 16), after randomization. The proving data so generated on Cu acet. were compiled and analyzed at the proving-cum-data processing cell. Results: Out of 34 provers who were on actual drug trial, only 12 provers manifested symptoms. Twenty-six and 20 symptoms were manifested in 6C and 30C potency, respectively. Conclusion: The pathogenetic response elicited during the proving trial expands the scope of use of the homoeopathic medicine C. aceticum. It usually occurs in the narrower areas of the ureter. It can be associated with severe pain, nausea, vomiting, urinary infections, haematuria, hydronephrosis, etc. Case Summary: A case of 15-mm calculus, lodged at the right ureterovesicular junction, presented with severe cutting pain extending downwards from the right lumbar region to the right groin area. The patient had severe pain at the conclusion of urination. Another calculus of size 10 mm in the lower calyx of the left kidney and 3.4-mm concretion in the right kidney was also detected. The homoeopathic medicine Sarsaparilla was given on the basis of totality of symptoms for 3 days. The pain reduced in 3 days and subsequent to an acute colicky pain and some bleeding, on the 11th day, the stone was expelled. Objective: The aim of this work is to report physicochemical standardisation of the homoeopathic drug, Rumex acetosella. Further, we propose our simple and economical method to differentiate it with a closely related species, Rumex crispus. Materials and Methods: The physicochemical study measuring several parameters was done. The pH of the mother tincture (MT) and the water extract was measured and compared. Furthermore, the chemical composition of the Rumex acetosella MT were compared with taxonomically closely related Rumex crispus MT by thin layer chromatography (TLC). Results: The results show a strong relationship between the extracting solvent's polarity and its extracting power. A simple TLC study shows a strong correlation between two drugs of the same genus, Rumex, but they can be differentiated by their unique spots. Conclusion: Our study not only provides the physicochemical standards for the drug Rumex acetosella but also shows that a simple analytical technique, a manual TLC can easily be used to distinguish two taxonomically close homoeopathic drugs.","PeriodicalId":13469,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Research in Homoeopathy","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"45927053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
