The presented analysis of existing solutions clearly demonstrates that although they may be efficient for one platform (such as fully customized circuits), for another platform (such as FPGA) they become not advantageous at all. The paper suggests several, supplementing each other, Hamming weight counters and comparators based on optimized mapping of the circuits to FPGA look-up tables giving the best performance and the fewest resources compared to the best known alternatives. It is shown that the proposed methods are easily adjustable to a wide range of problem dimensions. Besides, the paper gives well-defined recommendations that enable the most appropriate circuit to be chosen for particular requirements such as the size of the vectors and the required performance. Final evaluations of the results have been done through prototyping in FPGAs and comparison with the best known alternatives.","PeriodicalId":133824,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2015 - International Conference on Computer as a Tool (EUROCON)","volume":"79 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130636994","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper a calculation of the corona onset voltage gradient of AC conductors has been performed for taking into account the effects of atmospheric conditions. Corona characteristic on overhead transmission lines (OHTL) are influenced by a several factors. The conductor surface roughness and atmospheric conditions have a direct influence on the corona onset voltage gradient. Atmospheric conditions have the largest influence on the value of the air density. The air density is function of the ambient temperature and pressure. Ambient temperature at any given location is subject to daily and seasonal variable. The transmission line crossing a high humidity area and thus humidity should be taken into account in evaluating of the corona onset voltage gradient. Increased voltages in the 400 kV electric power network of Bosnia and Herzegovina are increasing the value of the voltage gradient and higher power losses due to AC corona. Therefore, it is important to determine the value of the voltage gradient on conductor surface as well as corona onset voltage gradient to accurate determined power losses due to AC corona.","PeriodicalId":133824,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2015 - International Conference on Computer as a Tool (EUROCON)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123186197","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Especially with the massive deployment of centralized enterprise WLAN (CE-WLAN), in indoor networks, a lot of access points (APs) are densely packed for increasing the capacity offered. But most of the APs deployed are idle for a larger period of time over a day. This paper proposes to use a centralized controlled distributed antenna systems (DAS) employing Radio over Fiber (RoF) technique for energy efficient management of such indoor network. This paper proposes an antenna selection scheme which provides overall coverage of the indoor network. We also discuss different real life scenarios where RoF based CE-WLAN is very efficient in reducing overall energy consumption of the network. We also validate the usefulness of RoF CE-WLAN (using real life WLAN traces) based on association based strategy and show that it gain extensively for clustered network entity scenario.","PeriodicalId":133824,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2015 - International Conference on Computer as a Tool (EUROCON)","volume":"63 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123512342","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the QoS parameters commonly used do not correlate well with the actual quality perceived by the end-users. Numerous objective video quality assessment (VQA) metrics have been proposed to address this problem. However, most of these metrics rely on the availability of additional information from the original undistorted video to perform adequately, which will increase the bandwidth required. This paper presents a No-Reference (NR) VQA algorithm, which extracts a Natural Video Statistical Model using both spatial and temporal features to model the quality experienced by the end-users without needing additional information from the transmitter. These features are based on the observation that the statistics of natural scenes are regular on pristine content but are significantly altered in the presence of distortion. The proposed method achieves a Spearman Rank Order Correlation Coefficient (SROCC) of 0.8161 with subjective data, which is statistically identical and sometimes superior to existing state-of-the-art full and reduced reference VQA metrics.","PeriodicalId":133824,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2015 - International Conference on Computer as a Tool (EUROCON)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114542639","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cost efficient energy transmission is one of the challenges of those installations. In this context direct connection of parallel connected DC wind turbines to the transmission line is a promising solution. Modular DC-DC converters are an attractive solution for the direct connection of the DC wind turbines to the transmission line. In addition, the phase-shifted full-bridge converter (PSFB) is a good candidate to form simple, efficient and reliable high voltage modular DC-DC converters for offshore DC networks. This paper proposes a novel energy conversion scheme for the direct connection of the DC wind turbines to the transmission line. Design criteria for the phase-shifted full-bridge converter and the medium frequency transformer are described and a modular energy conversion scheme is sized to operate with 10MW offshore wind turbines and 300kV transmission voltage.","PeriodicalId":133824,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2015 - International Conference on Computer as a Tool (EUROCON)","volume":"64 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121520991","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The extra-market approach survives for low penetration levels, but as energy from wind penetration increases the extra-market policies are expected to become untenable. A wind power producer (WPP) should expect full competition in deregulated electricity market, i.e., has to have an offer strategy to be competitive. A WPP has to face uncertainties on available wind energy and market prices. Uncertainties have to be conveniently addressed; otherwise a decrease on the financial results is expected. A stochastic programming approach is presented to suitable address those uncertainties. The problem formulation is approached in the way of writing equations in order to benefit from the well-established mixed integer linear program (MILP) solvers in order to compute an offering strategy. A case study with data from the Iberian Electricity Market is used to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.","PeriodicalId":133824,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2015 - International Conference on Computer as a Tool (EUROCON)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125925607","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The compensation of the voltage sags is carried out by injecting reactive power, while the voltage harmonics and voltage imbalances are ameliorated by canceling out the harmonics and the imbalances of the grid current. The control scheme is designed in the synchronous reference frame with a nested control structure which contains PI controllers and resonant regulators. These regulators are tuned at the harmonic frequencies to be eliminated and can be implemented to incorporate an update of those frequencies. Simulation results show the resultant time response of the voltage at the point of common coupling and the grid current.","PeriodicalId":133824,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2015 - International Conference on Computer as a Tool (EUROCON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115884269","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This high spectral resolution can be used for object detection and for discriminate between different objects based on their spectral characteristics. One of the main problems involved in hyperspectral analysis is the presence of mixed pixels, which arise when the spacial resolution of the sensor is not able to separate spectrally distinct materials. Spectral unmixing is one of the most important task for hyperspectral data exploitation. However, the unmixing algorithms can be computationally very expensive, and even high power consuming, which compromises the use in applications under on-board constraints. In recent years, graphics processing units (GPUs) have evolved into highly parallel and programmable systems. Specifically, several hyperspectral imaging algorithms have shown to be able to benefit from this hardware taking advantage of the extremely high floating-point processing performance, compact size, huge memory bandwidth, and relatively low cost of these units, which make them appealing for onboard data processing. In this paper, we propose a parallel implementation of an augmented Lagragian based method for unsupervised hyperspectral linear unmixing on GPUs using CUDA. The method called simplex identification via split augmented Lagrangian (SISAL) aims to identify the endmembers of a scene, i.e., is able to unmix hyperspectral data sets in which the pure pixel assumption is violated. The efficient implementation of SISAL method presented in this work exploits the GPU architecture at low level, using shared memory and coalesced accesses to memory.","PeriodicalId":133824,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2015 - International Conference on Computer as a Tool (EUROCON)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131383356","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The preferences of the PEVs on using the PL are also considered in the study. The PEVs have a choice in participating in grid-to-vehicle or vehicle-to-grid modes with fixed or flexible amount of departed state of charge (SOC). The PL assigns various tariffs for different requirements of the PEVs. In this study, the mutual effect of the variation of PEV tariffs and the PL's behavior in the market is investigated. It is shown that the preferences of PEVs can significantly affect the PL's strategy. The changes of the equilibrium prices for PL and aggregator interaction are thoroughly analyzed in response to changes in PEV tariffs to illustrate their influence on their behavior.","PeriodicalId":133824,"journal":{"name":"IEEE EUROCON 2015 - International Conference on Computer as a Tool (EUROCON)","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132469595","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The genetic algorithm is implemented in two variants that use different evaluation functions.
