Butea monosperma, sacred tree, rich with various phyto constituents used as antimicrobial, anti-fertility, anticonvulsive, anti-helminthic, anti-diarrhoeal, wound healing, hepatoprotection, anti-hypertenstive, antitumor, anti-diabetic, and anti-inflammatory. In the present study, ethyl acetate, chloroform and methanol extracts of Butea monosperma flowers were screened for anti-microbial (agar well diffusion method), anti-oxidant (DPPH and TPC assay) and anti-cancer (MTT assay) activities. Among the three extracts, Ethyl acetate extract showed highest anti-bacterial (Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, E. Coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa), anti fungal (Aspergillus niger), anti-oxidant (DPPH with IC5029.64), total phenolic content (90.35mg GAE/g) and cyto-toxicity against MCF-7 cell lines (IC50-24.150μg/mL), while methanol extract exhibited highest anti-fungal activity (Candida albicans) and cyto-toxicity against A-549 cell lines (IC50-15.288μg/mL). Whereas the chloroform extract relatively exhibited less activity compared to the other two extracts. These results clearly indicate that Butea monosperma flowers possess valuable phytochemicals to treat various diseases.","PeriodicalId":13334,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Pure & Applied Biosciences","volume":"20 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87525136","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The fermentation of lactic acid increases the shelf life of any vegetables and fruits. The valuable properties that includes the flavour, nutritive value and decreases the toxicity is also augmented. A completely cured sauerkraut can be kept for few months in a container which is airtight in room temperature. The fermented vegetables and fruits can be used as capable source of the probiotics as they harbour few LAB like L. Fermentum, L. Acidophilus, Lactobacillus Plantarum, Lactobacillus brevis etc. The core objective of current study is to isolate the LAB from the sauerkraut which is produced in the laboratory that can be used as the potent bio-control mediator to control vegetables and fruit spoiling the pathogenic fungi. In present study, a lactic acid producing bacteria has been isolated (ISAK-2), which is rod shaped, gram positive and breed optimally at a pH 4.5 in the MRS broth media. Bacteria was tried against fungal pathogens that is isolated from rotten fruits like Custard Apple (Annona reticulate), Papaya (Carica papaya), Pomegranate (Punica granatum) and rotten vegetables like Capsicum (Capsicum annuum), sponge gourd (Luffa cylindrica) and Pointed gourd (Trichosanthes dioica). It was noticed from the study that the bacterial soup was able to constrain growth of fungi in the agar plate.","PeriodicalId":13334,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Pure & Applied Biosciences","volume":"782 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76892561","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The highest GCV was recorded for the number of pods/plant followed by seed yield/plant. High Heritability was observed for 100-seed weight (96.88%) followed by Days to flowering (91.07%) and days to maturity (90.28%). High estimates of genetic advance as percent of mean was recorded for number of pods/plant and 100-seed weight. Correlation studies revealed Pods/plant, Branches/plant are positively and significantly correlated with yield/plant. The path coefficient analysis indicated that characters viz. Days to maturity, pods/plant and 100-seed weight have direct effect on seed yield. Hence branches/plant, pods/plant, 100-seed weight should be considered during selection in yield improvement programme.","PeriodicalId":13334,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Pure & Applied Biosciences","volume":"94 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85856351","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Also, increased backyard poultry production would result in a positive impact on household food security both in terms of increased dietary intake as well as income generation. Hence, increasing meat and egg production from backyard poultry has been a major concern of Government of India for many years and supported by various programmes to improve backyard poultry production. In this study a case was taken from Wanaparthy district to study the economic improvement of farm women through backyard poultry farming. These women were supplied with poultry chick (Srinidhi, Vanaraja and Gramapriya) from Youth For ActionKrishi Vigyan Kendra under Scheduled Caste Subplan. Survey was conducted in Wanaparthy district and selected two villages viz., Kothapalli and Venkatapuram which is having highest number of SC households compared to other villages in the district. 110 farm women were selected purposively from both the villages. The results for the year 2019-2020, with the mortality rate for the bird supplied was 12.5 per cent depicted that the backyard poultry had the potentiality to increase the average income per farm women per annum was Rs. 10,300. With a Benefit to Cost ratio 8.15: 1 for the selected villages.","PeriodicalId":13334,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Pure & Applied Biosciences","volume":"5 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"80075365","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hence, alternative sources of fiber must be explored. Bagasse is a rich source of fiber which could be exploited for human consumption. Bagasse was subjected to different treatments namely: steam, acid, alkali at different concentrations (0.1N, 0.25N, 0.5N, 0.75N, 1N) for different time intervals (15min, 30min, 45min, 60min). Out of these treatments acid treatment did not give best results. Analysis of chemical, functional properties, and microbial assay was carried out. Cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin content of the sample ranged from 40-52percent, 07-25percent, 0927percent respectively. Functional properties namely: solubility index, swelling power, water absorption capacity, oil absorption capacity in the sample ranged from 1-3.25percent, 0.61.03percent, 6.8-9.7g/g, 2.47-9.10g/g respectively. Indigenous treated bagasse was also compared with the imported commercial product the results obtained were much better than commercial product. Thus the aim of the present study is to promote bagasse as a good source of dietary fibre which can be successfully incorporated in food products.","PeriodicalId":13334,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Pure & Applied Biosciences","volume":"99 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"79253788","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present study mainly focused on testing of soil samples in Solapur District in Maharashtra to determine their level of micronutrients and to provide information to farmers and extension functionaries. A survey was conducted in 2019-20 by All India Co-ordinated Research Project on Micro and Secondary Nutrients and Pollutant Elements in Soils and Plants under Department of Soil Science & Agricultural Chemistry, Dr. Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, Akola, (M.S.) in a view to have proper assessment of secondary and micronutrient status in soil of the district. In the present investigation different chemical properties, available sulphur and micronutrients status was assessed in GPS based three hundred seven surface soil samples (0-20 cm) from 11 blocks in Solapur district of Maharashtra. The pH, EC, OC and CaCO3 of soils collected from the study area varied from 6.30 to 8.75, 0.02 to 0.59 dS m -1 , 1.75 to 17.75 g kg -1 and 2.67 to 13.37 percent, respectively. Results further indicated that the 45.60, 76.55, 95.44, 70.03, 9.12 and 0.65 per cent soil samples were found to be deficient in S, Zn Fe, Mn, Cu and B, respectively. The nutrient index values are low for zinc (1.27), iron (1.05) and manganese (1.32), medium for sulphur (1.84) and whereas high nutrient indices were observed for copper (2.48) and boron (2.77). The results obtained in the present study clearly showed a large variability in chemical properties of soil across the Solapur district. This information could aid in decision making for application of plant nutrients for higher monetary returns to the farmers.","PeriodicalId":13334,"journal":{"name":"Indian Journal of Pure & Applied Biosciences","volume":"81 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75126751","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
