This study investigates the effects of ovarian activity with chronic stress (CS) on behavioural parameters, estrous cycles, and ovarian follicular development in rats. Here, we examined the ovarian microenvironment against exposure to stress and to elucidate the stress-related ovarian molecular mechanisms. Twenty female Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into the control and the CS groups. The estrous cycle phases were detected by vaginal smear. Rats in the CS group were immobilized 1 h/day for 8 weeks. At the end of the experiment, all animals were subjected to behavioral tests in their metestrus phase and sacrificed on the other day (diestrus phase). The ovaries were harvested for histological analysis, blood samples were taken to measure cortisol levels. The immunoreactivities of ovarian IGF-1, AMH and Bcl-2 proteins were evaluated by immunohistochemistry. Here, we have studied CS-induced prolonged estrous cycles. We showed a lower number of developing follicles but the higher number of atretic follicles in the CS group’s ovaries. The dominant structure of ovarian histology was large interstitial glands. CS caused decreases in ovarian Bcl-2, IGF-1 and AMH immunoreactivities which have roles in follicular development. Also, anxiety was detected in CS-exposed animals. Our results showed that chronic restrainer stress can be a serious endocrine disrupter by reducing ovarian paracrine","PeriodicalId":13290,"journal":{"name":"Indian journal of experimental biology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49136911","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Assessing the prognosis of such hemorrgage at early stage adds significance to treatment outcome. In this study, for the first time, we used neutrophil/lymphocyte (N/L) ratio and mean platelet volume (MPV) values as early markers in assessing the prognosis of patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH). This retrospective study included 50 patients with aneurysmal SAH who were diagnosed, hospitalized, treated, and follow-up with angiography between 2015 and 2016 (Gr. I). Blood count parameters and their clinical status after application (the first-arrival Glasgow coma score [GCS]) and at discharge (Glasgow outcome score [GOS]) were examined. The MPV value and N/L ratio were compared with that of the nonaneurysmatic control group (group 2, n = 50). The N/L ratio of Gr. I (median: 10.80) was significantly higher than that of the control group (median: 2.20) ( P <0.05). The GCS ( median: 10.0) and GOS ( median: 3.0) of Gr. I were significantly lower than those of the control group (median GCS: 15.00, median GOS: 5.00) ( P <0.05). MPV values were not different between the two groups ( P >0.05). In the aneurysm group, the higher the N/L ratio, the lower the GCS and GOS, while the lower the N/L ratio, the higher the GCS and GOS. In patients with aneurysmal SAH, the inflammation level was associated with disease severity, which can be considered as an early treatment and prognostic marker. The initial application of the N/L ratio may be important in assessing the prognosis, and a lower N/L ratio may be used as a simple, effective, and important marker to estimate the better prognosis of patients with aneurysmal SAH.","PeriodicalId":13290,"journal":{"name":"Indian journal of experimental biology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"47949870","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hemorrhagic cystitis (HC) is one of the most common side effects of CP. Although Mesna is commonly used to prevent HC, it suffers from few side effects. Therefore, search for better alternate substance still continues. In this study, we studied the effects of ursolic acid (UA), one of the active ingredients of Plantago major , commonly called plantain or white man’s foot, in CP-induced hemorrhagic cystitis in rats. Forty-nine Sprague − Dawley rats in seven equal groups viz. control (C); cyclophosphamide (CP); cyclophosphamide+Mesna (CPMesna); cyclophosphamide+ursolic acid [100 (CPUA100) and 200 mg (CPUA200)], and cyclophosphamide+ mesna+ ursolic acid (100, (CPMesnaUA100) and (200 mg (CPMesnaUA200) were investigated for inducible nitric oxide synthetase (iNOs), total antioxidant status (TAS), total antioxidant status (TOS), TNF– α , interleukin 10 (IL–10) and interleukin 6 (IL–6) levels from blood samples. The data obtained were statistically analyzed using SPSS and both Kruskall Wallis and Dunn tests were performed. Value of P <0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Our results have revealed that the UA applied groups better preserve compared to CP group. However, it was observed that this protection is comparatively weaker than the Mesna and UA-Mesna combinations. Hence, it is suggested that the urosilic acid could prevent cyclophosphamide induced hemorrhagic cystitis, and also extends support to Mesna applications. Overall, it has been observed that ursolic acid has limited protective effects against CP-induced hemorrhagic cystitis, and can serve as a supportive agent in inhibiting hemorrhagic cystitis.","PeriodicalId":13290,"journal":{"name":"Indian journal of experimental biology","volume":" ","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.6,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"49007795","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"生物学","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here, we determined the biodegrading potentials of nonconventional feedstuffs using a combination of bacteria ( Bacillus subtilis ) and fungi ( Fusarium sp.). Five nonconventional feed types (feather meal, hair waste, egg membranes, horn hoof and horn) were selected and replicated in a 10 L plastic biocomposter for 7 weeks and observed for degradation by measuring changes in total organic carbon, temperature, phosphorus, potassium, pH, microbial counts and rate of degradation. Bacteria and fungi were inoculated inside the substrate after isolation and incubation. The effects of physicochemical and microbial counts were assessed. The biodegradability and optimal activity were observed. From the results, physico-parameters measured during the 7 weeks showed significant differences ( P <0.05) between substrates. The highest rate of decomposition, temperature, pH levels, total organic carbon, and total bacteria counts were recorded in feather meal, egg membrane, and hair waste. The weekly study showed that feather meal (68.79%, decompose faster than cow hoof (18.72%) egg membrane (60.89%) hair waste (62.82%) and cow horn (32.31%) during bio-composting.
