In this case the intention means the rule peculiar to a maze. We made a robot learn in a maze based on an intention, and made it run in two mazes, one based on the same intention and the other based on a different intention. The proposed method needs neither dynamic models of the system nor control experts for the control problem. Multi-layered perceptron neural networks are used to form the neural network based quasi-fuzzy logic controller (QFLC). The control performance of the QFLC is achieved on-line using the feedback error learning scheme. The fuzzy control rules are then extracted from the input-output characteristics of the QFLC. They are reduced to form the fuzzy control rule base for an FLC through consecutive procedures such as smoothing, logical reduction, and test running and selection of firing rules. This environment relies upon an underlying CNC architecture and on an associated method that provides the human operator with a sequence of steps guiding the process of specifying the requirements and building the CNC software. A new CNC architecture based on a hierarchical finite state machine (HFSM) and functional units (FU) is presented. The concept of a commands accessibility tree, which helps in the process of building the HFSM, is introduced. Moreover, many kinds of complex operations are usually required to make accurate instrumentation and recognition. In this paper, a model-based robot vision (MBRV) algorithm and its VLSI processor architecture are proposed for 3-D instrumentation and object recognition. The input image is compared with the two-dimensional (2-D) silhouette images which are generated from the 3-D object models by means of perspective projection. Because the MBRV algorithm always gives the candidates for the accurate instrumentation and recognition result with simple and regular procedures, it is suitable for the implementation of the VLSI processor. Highly parallel VLSI architecture for the algorithm is also proposed in the VLSI processor to reduce the latency equivalent to the time lapse between arrival of the input image and appearance of the result for the 3-D instrumentation. This evolution generates many new conflicts between local and global interests. Several issues related to the advancement of technology are affected by such conflicts. For example, international cooperative programs in various areas of science and engineering are frequently being advocated. They begin with much hope and desire of collaboration; but many cooperative programs fail simply because there are conflicts with local interests which are genuinely difficult to resolve and cannot simply be wished away for the sake of international harmony. Concrete solutions to local-global conflicts of interests in technological cooperation require careful analysis and investigation of a combination of three factors: economic, technological and social. The article concerns the role that the University of the future has to play in the resolution of such conflicts. Specific examples and proposals will be discussed, including an inherent conflict in the University itself. For example, there is already a conflict between, on one hand, an increase in quality and breadth caused by opening the admissions door further to international students; and, on the other hand, the increase in regional support by opening the door further to home grown students. The proposed new model is especially suitable for the design of gate drive and snubber circuits by using circuit simulation. It is also very useful for the simulation of power electronics systems at a system level. To realize a memory-based implementation, a sub-class Petri net model is suggested. The suggested model, B-Petri net, is a marked graph whose numbers of input places and output places of a transition are limited to two. The B-Petri net has the same modeling power as a marked graph. The complexity of the B-Petri net is analyzed, and the hardware implementation architecture of a programmable controller based on it is also suggested. This ballast, which is composed of a single-ended resonant-type inverter circuit, has stable operation and can supply high frequency power to the HID lamps without acoustic resonance. This paper presents the operating characteristics of the ballast circuit, verified by experimental results which agree well with calculations. We have proposed a concept of a two finger micro-hand, and designed and built a hand module based on parallel mechanisms. The module has 6 degrees of freedom with piezoelectric devices as actuators. A calibration method based on least square error is proposed for 3-DOF translational motion in task coordinates fixed under a microscope. Unity power factor is also obtained. The paper describes three control schemes for a single-phase rectifier, and experimental and simulation studies of rectifier performance. The effectiveness of the control schemes is confirmed by experiments and simulations.
