Abstract
A new type of solid state ballast for high intensity discharge (HID) lamps is presented in this paper. This ballast, which is composed of a single-ended resonant-type inverter circuit, has stable operation and can supply high frequency power to the HID lamps without acoustic resonance. This paper presents the operating characteristics of the ballast circuit, verified by experimental results which agree well with calculations. The proposed circuit is useful for HID lamps due to its small size and low switching losses.<>
