Smart home systems are designed for a wide band of applications such as healthcare, power management, safety and security. In Egypt, we are suffering from an electrical power shortage because the production is not sufficient for the actual consumption. In addition, there are some isolated areas not covered by the National Grid. Because of this persisting challenge, the need for finding solutions arose. Egypt is a developing country with limited resources, consequently economic and power saving focused solutions are needed. In this paper, a simple integrated design of a smart green house is introduced as a solution for a common Egyptian home to save the consumed power from the National Grid. This design has two main pillars: First, a smart system that controls the power consumption through monitoring the activity in the home to save the power as much as possible. This system comprises of a wireless network of controllers. Each controller monitors and controls a specific area considered a separate zone. These zone controllers exchange the current data and control parameters with a master unit, which provides supervision and control of the entire system. In addition, the system can be monitored and configured locally through a wall mounted touch screen or remotely using a mobile phone or web interface. Second, a solar power supply system equipped with a two degree of freedom sun tracker to partially or fully power the loads and hence reduces the power consumption from the National Grid. The solar system is integrated with the smart supervision system through a wireless link to the master unit.","PeriodicalId":131825,"journal":{"name":"2017 Intelligent Systems Conference (IntelliSys)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131282429","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Known as Swarm Intelligence (SI), the process has been deeply studied in schools of fish, flocks of birds, and swarms of bees. The present study looks at the ability of human groups to make decisions as an Artificial Swarm Intelligence (ASI) by forming similar real-time closed-loop systems online. More specifically, the present study tasked groups of typical sports fans with predicting English Premier League matches over a period of five consecutive weeks by working together in real-time as swarm-based systems. Results showed that individuals, who averaged 55% accuracy when predicting games alone, were able to amplify their accuracy to 72% when predicting together as real-time swarms. This corresponds to 131% amplification in predictive accuracy across five consecutive weeks (50 games).","PeriodicalId":131825,"journal":{"name":"2017 Intelligent Systems Conference (IntelliSys)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127897575","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The devices that are powered by voice services generate the huge amount of user contextual and lifestyle data. Interweaving voice services generated data with outpatient Electronic Health Records (EHR) could breed new clinical pathways that are not only beneficial to the individual outpatients but can also improve overall population heath outcomes. In this research paper, we propose voice services integration with the EHR and aim to solve one of the most important issues in outpatient healthcare — “remote monitoring”. Finally, the paper presents a prototyping solution design as well as its application and certain experimental results.","PeriodicalId":131825,"journal":{"name":"2017 Intelligent Systems Conference (IntelliSys)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133858443","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Online news is unstructured narrative text that embeds facts, frames, and bias that can influence society about critical issues. Online news sources are carriers of news that operate within complex and dynamic networks. The informational flows, interactions, and structural variations of online news lead to asymmetries and influence societal attitudes and beliefs. Current efforts to express the internal embeddedness in online news text are limited by the use of existing computational tools. This research has the potential to inform advanced machine learning and to help researchers to understand implicit structural embeddedness to address real-world critical issues. This paper establishes the new concept of double subjectivity, proposes a formal definition of a news frame issues network, and introduces a social influence model for the discovery of distinct pathways. The paper also exposes opinion shifts in complex networks for future computational treatment of narrative text.","PeriodicalId":131825,"journal":{"name":"2017 Intelligent Systems Conference (IntelliSys)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115935674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It uses the model of incomplete syntactic analysis, or chunking, described in Tesnière's dependencies. In order to improve the efficiency of chunking, the authors use a PoS-tagged dictionary of bi-grams. The program is written in Java; it uses UIMA framework and NLP@Cloud library. The paper presents the test results of the program execution on a collection of 100 clauses. It shows that the use of bi-grams can considerably increase the characteristics of the spelling corrector.","PeriodicalId":131825,"journal":{"name":"2017 Intelligent Systems Conference (IntelliSys)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114994969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

DbR exploits the relatively large convergence basin of the Iterative Closest Point (ICP) algorithm, by specifying a set of characteristic poses from which to initiate ICP for a given part. For each characteristic pose, an efficient search is executed at a set of uniform seed point translations in a scene, by incrementing the pose through a small set of discrete in-plane rotations. The results from this search are then refined further using ICP and validated. Experiments have shown favorable performance, with an average of 600% detection accuracy and an average execution time of less than 400 msec per scene.","PeriodicalId":131825,"journal":{"name":"2017 Intelligent Systems Conference (IntelliSys)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131670199","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This deployment plan is based on factors such as predicting the received power from macrocell and femtocell, measuring the multipath loss and estimating the femtocells coverage radios to decide the FAPs locations. Predicting the number of FAPs required is core for successful deployment. Therefore, the number of FAPs will be predicted based on two factors: the area size and the FAP radios in the target area. In this research some measurements need to be taken, including signal strength, coverage area and multipath values to provide coverage and an enhanced quality of service.","PeriodicalId":131825,"journal":{"name":"2017 Intelligent Systems Conference (IntelliSys)","volume":"376 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123317347","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Interpreting a digital color image of fruit orchard captured in field environment is extremely challenging due to adverse weather conditions, luminance variability and the presence of dust, insects and other unavoidable image noises. The purpose of this survey is to categorize and briefly review the literature on computer analysis of fruit images in agricultural operations, which comprises more than 60 papers published in the last 10 years. With the aim to perform applied research in agricultural imaging, this paper intends to focus on advanced image processing and analysis techniques used in applications for detection and classifications of fruits, developed in the last decade. For the reviewed techniques, some performance evaluation metrics achieved in various experiments are emphasized to help the researchers when making choices and develop new computer vision applications in fruit images.","PeriodicalId":131825,"journal":{"name":"2017 Intelligent Systems Conference (IntelliSys)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121402081","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
