With the intensified competition in the sector, it has become paramount to facilitate the creation of highly personalised services and experiences. In order to achieve this, most tourists currently rely on search engines when seeking relevant information. In this paper, we introduce a Tourist Advisor which uses a Question Answering System (QAS) to provide accurate answers to the tourists' questions instead of simply identifying a set of documents that are likely to contain some relevant information. The QAS has several innovative features, including the utilisation of a “controlled” natural language as a means of representation of both the domain knowledge and the common sense. We present the architecture of the system and discuss its deployment in a pilot study carried out in one of the most renowned Italian tourist destinations. Results show that when compared with traditional web search, our system provides much concise and precise answers in a shorter amount of time.","PeriodicalId":131825,"journal":{"name":"2017 Intelligent Systems Conference (IntelliSys)","volume":"184 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134454174","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A technician and task scheduling problem requires the creation of timetables for employees in order to serve customers, each having skill requirements. Optimised scheduling can reduce the cost of a workforce and save the employer's significant amount of money whilst maintaining customer and workforce satisfaction. This problem is an NP-hard combinatorial optimisation problem. Over the years, many technician and task scheduling problems have been studied. This is due to the real world nature of the problem, that occurs in many industries such as service maintenance, home healthcare, call centres, forest management and housing development projects. Each problem studied has included a diverse range of constraints such as teaming, priority levels, outsourcing, precedence, routing, time windows and tools and spare parts. We present a study of the problems in the literature, datasets and solution approaches. This review aims to identify promising areas for further research such as focusing on multi-period problems, technician unavailability, teaming and precedence constraints.","PeriodicalId":131825,"journal":{"name":"2017 Intelligent Systems Conference (IntelliSys)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123355055","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Over the years different techniques have been utilized in the diagnosis and prognosis of CPSs. This information has been used to facilitate maintenance decision making in long term and short term. From the existing literature, the authors have remarked that, most of the proposed methodologies deal with CBM for individual CPSs with less attention on the cases where CPSs form fleets, in which each CPS is comprised of similar types of subsystems or equipments. The authors therefore, address the fleet level of CPSs through which the existing diagnosis and decision making methodologies can be restudied. This article proposes an original way to support fleet maintainer's decision using the fuzzy logic methodology approach in diagnosis and Pareto optimization process for decision making. An application to the pantograph of a fleet of trains is proposed.","PeriodicalId":131825,"journal":{"name":"2017 Intelligent Systems Conference (IntelliSys)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124683289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This will help in developing an instructional strategy that will increase the learners' participation in forums, and their involvement in the creation of knowledge; consequently, improving learning processes. An innovative approach was taken in this study, using the Natural Language Processing (NLP) tool and Henri's content analysis model in order to analyze the learners' discourse in forums and identify their types of interactions. We hope that this approach will lead to additional understanding and shed light on the ability to create effective online learning communities, through the learners' behavior.","PeriodicalId":131825,"journal":{"name":"2017 Intelligent Systems Conference (IntelliSys)","volume":"142 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123071041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the exponential increase in the volume of network traffic data, involvement of humans in such detection systems is time consuming and a non-trivial problem. Secondly, network traffic data tends to be highly dimensional, comprising of numerous features and attributes, making classification challenging and thus susceptible to the curse of dimensionality problem. Given such scenarios, the need arises for dimensional reduction, feature selection, combined with machine-learning techniques in the classification of such data. Therefore, as a contribution, this paper seeks to employ data mining techniques in a cloud-based environment, by selecting appropriate attributes and features with the least importance in terms of weight for the classification. Often the standard is to select features with better weights while ignoring those with least weights. In this study, we seek to find out if we can make prediction using those features with least weights. The motivation is that adversaries use stealth to hide their activities from the obvious. The question then is, can we predict any stealth activity of an adversary using the least observed attributes? In this particular study, we employ information gain to select attributes with the lowest weights and then apply machine learning to classify if a combination, in this case, of both source and destination ports are attacked or not. The motivation of this investigation is if attributes that are of least importance can be used to predict if an attack could occur. Our preliminary results show that even when the source and destination port attributes are used in combination with features with the least weights, it is possible to classify such network traffic data and predict if an attack will occur or not.","PeriodicalId":131825,"journal":{"name":"2017 Intelligent Systems Conference (IntelliSys)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123616987","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The solution to the problem was illustrated by the example of credit cards promotion strategy on the basis of historical data coming from the bank's databases. Marketing data regarded information on the bank's customers, such as personal data and transactions. We present a way of creating the semantic model of a customer by using the data exploration method. With this purpose in mind, multiple algorithms of clustering and classification were applied, the results of which were exploited to elaborate the ontology and to illustrate its use in decision-making.","PeriodicalId":131825,"journal":{"name":"2017 Intelligent Systems Conference (IntelliSys)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125380381","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Knowledge representation techniques, in turn, aim the representation of the real world, using mechanical, logical or other descriptions. Usually, in the evolutionary computation area, the problems are clearly defined allowing straightforward comparisons of the performance of the competing entities. Indeed, the core purpose of this work is to describe an approach that aims to establish a dynamic virtual world of complex and interacting entities that map real cases of diabetic foot situations, understood here as the terms that make the extensions of mathematical logic functions in a competitive environment with a strict measure of selection, i.e. fitness is assessed by one criterion alone, its Quality-of-Information, grounded on a Case-Based Reasoning methodology to problem solving, that allows to deal with incomplete, unknown and even self-contradictory data.","PeriodicalId":131825,"journal":{"name":"2017 Intelligent Systems Conference (IntelliSys)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129823288","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As crude oils from different regions have different properties, some researchers have used API gravity, which is used to classify crude oils, to develop different empirical correlations for different classes of black oils. However, this manual grouping may not necessarily result in correlations that appropriately capture the uncertainties in the black oils. This paper proposes intelligent clustering to group black oils before passing the clusters as inputs to the functional networks for prediction. This hybrid process gives better performance than the empirical correlations, standalone functional networks and neural network predictions.","PeriodicalId":131825,"journal":{"name":"2017 Intelligent Systems Conference (IntelliSys)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130140267","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The existing clinical standard of care using insertion of a transducer or catheter is based on an invasive method which always has certain risks. This study found some significant correlations between ICP and routinely monitored physiological signals in TBI patients. The results indicate that Heart Rate, Pulse, Diastolic Arterial Blood Pressure, Respiration, Mean Arterial Blood Pressure and ECG ST segment levels are significantly correlated with ICP and have the potential to be reliable predictors of intracranial hypertension (ICH). In this paper an algorithm is presented to extract increased ICP episodes and the corresponding physiological signals from large datasets. Episodes of “Intracranial hypertension onset”, “Intracranial Hypertension” and “Severe Intracranial Hypertension” were detected and differentiated based on the ICP levels. It was discovered that there is a potential predictive power in the dynamical information of routinely monitored physiological signals in TBI patients.","PeriodicalId":131825,"journal":{"name":"2017 Intelligent Systems Conference (IntelliSys)","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129384705","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This will lead to a large amount of water being trapped inside the water network and exposed to environmental conditions. Further, in the summer, this trapped water also heats up to an uncomfortable high temperature. Users typically waste this water by letting it flow down the drain until water at a comfortable temperature arrives. Continuous circulation has been proposed but it consumes a significant amount of energy. In this paper, a new approach to saving trapped water is proposed. It enables the circulation of hot as well as cold water. This is achieved via the introduction of a new component called the back box which is installed inside the home water network. This back box enables the circulation of water in a direction against the line pressure. The experimental and simulation results show the viability and effectiveness of the new approach. A significant amount of water can be saved as confirmed by the obtained results.","PeriodicalId":131825,"journal":{"name":"2017 Intelligent Systems Conference (IntelliSys)","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129440438","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
