This editorial outlines plans for the journal, including some that are already reflected in contributions to the present edition. Based on archival material from the State Archives of Montenegro, it deals with the period after the international recognition of this small Balkan state at the Congress of Berlin in 1878. In July 1882, some local residents invaded the most important ancient site in Montenegro, Doclea (Duklja), and robbed one of the site's most important tombs. Then, they took the excavated finds to Shkodër (Skadar) – which is part of present-day Albania but belonged to the Ottoman Empire at the time – with the intention of selling everything. The Montenegrin government launched an investigation, arrested two suspects and launched a manhunt for the other two who were in Shkodër to return the artefacts they had taken. Previously unused archival sources show that the Montenegrin government was prepared to make maximum efforts to retrieve its stolen cultural heritage. It analyses the nature of that community, assesses the extent of involvement in its cultural expression, considers culture maintenance, and suggests that while ethnic integrity was initially maintained, it was ultimately undermined, not only by the general forces of acculturation, but also by specifically Welsh factors. His meteoric rise and subsequent political line profoundly shaped the party's development during a critical period of transformation. After studying in France and participating in early labour movements, Li emerged as an influential leader during the tumultuous aftermath of the First United Front's collapse. This article examines Li's ascent to power in the CCP from 1927 to 1929, focusing on three critical phases: his appointment as provincial party secretary in the Guangdong province following the failed Guangzhou Uprising; his elevation through the Sixth CCP Congress; and his role in reshaping central–provincial relations. Combining material from Chinese and Soviet sources, the article illustrates how personal networks, centre–periphery dynamics and Comintern influence shaped leadership formation within the early CCP. Li Lisan's case illustrates how revolutionary organizations manage leadership transitions during periods of crisis, balance central authority with local initiative and navigate international relationships.
