Lucas","doi":"10.59588/2961-3094.1020","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.59588/2961-3094.1020","url":null,"abstract":"Various studies on the different experiences of pre-service teachers who are non-native speakers of English emerged to strengthen the teaching curriculum and empower them to be equipped as they take the role of classroom teachers. Some foreign students even study abroad to strengthen their proficiency in the English language; more so, other teacher education programs offer internships abroad. Studies support that teaching internship experiences impact shaping novice teachers’ identity (Borg, 2003; Kim & Cho, 2014; Ulla, 2016). This case study describes the teaching experiences of eight Korean pre-service teachers during their internship. The participants were students under the program of Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English from a private university in the Philippines. This study reports the qualitative results of individual interviews and weekly reflections. Borlongan","doi":"10.59588/2961-3094.1018","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.59588/2961-3094.1018","url":null,"abstract":"This paper surveys the language issues experienced by migrants during the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequently proposes a (linguistic) integration program for migrants, which is responsive and sensitive to their needs particularly during crises and emergencies. Migrants’ access to disease prevention and health care has been limited, and one of the reasons for this is the language barrier. Likewise, migrants have also voiced out their difficulty communicating with health care providers also because of language. Migrants have also felt isolation because of their inability to reach out to people who could likewise speak their language and they can communicate with. Another harsh situation they have been put into during the pandemic was when racist and xenophobic language was directed at them, when they have been thought of as carriers of the dreaded disease. Changes and disturbances in migration patterns have likewise impacted how language has been used in contexts of mobility.
