The survey included multiple-choice and open-ended questions asking about students’ experiences before (fall 2019 to early spring 2020) and during the pandemic-affected periods (late spring 2020 to spring 2021). While classroom assessment formats showed minimal changes, methods of exam administration differed significantly during the pandemic. Untimed and open-book exams became more prevalent, while in-class proctored exams decreased. Even in spring 2021, open-book, outside-of-class, and online proctored or unproctored exams remained common. Students who altered their long-term academic plans due to the pandemic expressed frustration with educational experiences and concerns about future job prospects via open-ended responses. This article compares an educational escape room for learning software engineering conducted online during the confinement caused by the pandemic and later face to face. The research involves 241 students and employs instruments to explore the knowledge acquisition attained by the students and their perceptions toward the activity. The results provide insights to consider use of this technique in the future. The digital elements used in a remote escape room are suitable for a face-to-face escape room since the educational efficacy of the activity was similar when conducted online and face to face. We employed three instruments for evaluation: a pre- and posttest to assess the escape room’s effectiveness for student learning, a questionnaire to gather students’ perceptions, and a Web platform that unobtrusively records students’ interactions and performance. It compelled employees and organizations to embrace RW arrangements, which were previously voluntary, part time, or occasional, as a means to curtail the spread of the virus and minimize business disruptions. RW has introduced a flexible arrangement and other benefits but has also brought forth numerous challenges and obstacles specifically faced by female employees. In this study, we collect important insights about recent research focusing on the impact of RW, particularly accentuated by the COVID-19 pandemic, on gender equality and highlight the barriers and challenges women face due to it. By analyzing insights gleaned from recent literature, we propose strategies and discuss the potential artificial intelligence-based solutions to address and overcome them. However, the AI and its models are only as good as the data used to train it. Data lineage could be tracked in many ways, including using metadata, from its generation usage, deployment, and verification. New standards, blueprints, best practices, and repositories for data are required to address requirements for data trustworthiness, such as sustainability, scale, and responsiveness but also ethics, diversity, equity, and inclusion. In this special issue of IEEE Internet Computing, we feature three articles. The first one addresses certification for trustworthy machine-learning-based applications, the second one is on the topic of data and configuration variances in deep learning, and the third one explores balancing trustworthiness and efficiency in AI Systems.
