Within this context, a multidisciplinary approach to the aesthetic and functional rehabilitation of the smile was added to the contemporary odontology, highlighting more conservative treatments like teeth whitening, the increase of clinical crown, crowns and ceramic veneers, using materials that mimic the dental structures. The objective of this paper is to present a literature review on the smile rehabilitation techniques using pure ceramics, which is based on diagnostic waxing and reverse planning, the use of mock-up and photographs, an increase of clinical crown, whitening, and adhesive cementation, focusing on the final aesthetic result. A good integrated planning, with the correct indication, enables a more conservative approach to the tooth structure, presenting itself as an excellent solution for aesthetic and functional modifications in the smile. Thus, it is unquestionable the importance of knowledge by the professional, about the material and the technique, to obtain a satisfactory result. Ferimentos que possuem essa caracteristica, causam fraturas cominutivas e com grande perda de substância dificultando a reconstrucao do local afetado. Alem disso, fragmentos resultantes, sejam do projetil ou da superficie do tecido afetado, podem ser deslocados para outras regioes sendo um fator a mais de atencao durante a avaliacao. Os exames de imagem, como a tomografia computadorizada, sao fundamentais para determinar a presenca de fraturas ou de corpos estranhos. Dessa forma, os fragmentos deveriam ser removidos cuidadosamente bem como dentes e tecidos inviaveis, seguido de debridamento conservador e fechamento da ferida. Its etiology includes microrganisms as Porphyromonas gingivalis, Tannerella forsythia and Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans. This work aimed to discuss the role of Porphyromonas gingivalis in chronic periodontitis. The electronic bases PubMed, BIREME and SciELO were used to search for historical aspects and studies published between 2000 and 2015, using the following descriptors in Portuguese and English: “Chronic periodontitis, Porphyromonas gingivalis” and “Virulence factors”. 205 articles were found and 24 were included. Records on periodontal diseases from the early civilization to the present day were found. Its prevalence in the world’s population remains high and several studies report the pathogenesis of the disease. P. gingivalis is able to induce humoral and cellular response in infected individuals. Studies on its escape mechanisms and virulence factors report tissue breakdown consequent to immuno-inflammatory exacerbated response in the host which may evolve into edentulism. Studies of the immune response to P. gingivalis suggest its role in perpetuation of the inflammatory state by interfering with cytokines production and cell death mechanisms in the host’s cells, resulting in tissue destruction. Extraction of deciduous teeth, is now considered a major procedure causing fear and anxiety in children during dental treatment. Goal: The aim of this study was to present a complementary technique to accelerate shedding of deciduous teeth. Clinical cases: Description of two clinical cases in two children who demonstrated intense fear associated with the extraction of deciduous teeth presented with mobility and physiologic resorption in 2/3 of the root. The children have accepted the technique application because the deciduous teeth have painlessly fallen out with in two days. Conclusion: The presented aid technique proved to be an alternative to reduce psychological trauma in anxious and fearful’s children. That condition is multifactorial, involuntary and parafunctional. Studies on involvement of bruxism in children are scarce and considered a subject little explored in the literature. The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between the child’s behavior profile, as well as the sleep characteristics and symptoms associated with the occurrence of bruxism in children aged 5 to 11 years in the city of Juazeiro do Norte - Ceara. A pilot study, cross-sectional type, was performed with 32 parents and/or guardians that answered a structured questionnaire about the topic. Of the total sample, 56.5% were male. 53.2% reported having gnashing of teeth, 75% complained of headaches and 53.1% said that children were agitated or anxious. The prevalence of bruxism in this study was 53.2% (n = 17). In addition, 34.4% (n = 11) cases were observed during the night. Statistically significant associations were observed between the diurnal bruxism and the occurrence of nightmares (p=0.011) and the habit of talking while sleeping (p = 0.009); additionally, it was observed association between nocturnal bruxism and behavior profile (anxious and/or agitated) of child (p=0.022). The other variables of this study showed not statistical association with the diurnal or nocturnal bruxism (p>0.05).
