The study included two phases. The first phase of study uses MBI i.e. Maslach Burnout Inventory to observe the levels of burnout.In second phase of the study an attempt has been made to observe the differences in 3 factors of job burnout i.e. emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation, and personal accomplishment on the basis of 4 Demographic variables i.e. age, education,gender, and marital status. Results from the present study confirmed that teachers working in private professional institutions report high level of burnout. Their observed level of emotional exhaustion was more than the standard level. Besides this their depersonalisation level was more and personal accomplishment was low. But no noticeable differences were found in the dimensions of job burnout on the basis of age, gender, marital status, and education, but overall job burnout was higher than the standard level. It is recommended that teacher burnout should not be seen only as individual problem, but also an organisational problem and effective strategies on administrative part must be put in place in order to keep healthy, low burnout environment.","PeriodicalId":130584,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Organization and Human Behaviour","volume":"75 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125995529","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 103 employees from various Indian information technology organisations rated their superior's transformational leadership behaviour and their own empowerment and happiness. For this study, two dimensions of empowerment were taken into consideration-meaning and competence. Five dimensions of transformational leadership were captured-idealised influence attributed, idealised influence behaviour, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualised consideration. Findings suggest that idealised influence attributed and competence are the best predictors of happiness. Regression analyses also show that both competence and meaning partially mediate the relationship between each of the five dimensions of transformational leadership and follower's happiness. The paper makes recommendations to managers and organisations for improving their leadership styles, which in turn may strengthen positive attitudinal and behavioural changes among employees, thereby making them more productive.","PeriodicalId":130584,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Organization and Human Behaviour","volume":"152 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115096091","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fredrickson proposes that emotions like joy, interest, contentment, and love enable an individual to broaden his/her patterns of thinking and acting, which in turn build the personal coping resources, whether intellectual, physical, social, or psychological, by way of creating novel ideas, actions or social relationships. This paper is a review of 15 empirical studies carried out during 1998-2012 that support the contributions of this theory to the creation of a healthy workplace by fostering positive emotions in employees. Positive emotions were found to be pivotal in enhancing employee performance, encouraging innovation and creativity that result in sustainable business practices, helping organisations make good decisions, facilitating work-flow and motivation, developing authentic and charismatic leadership styles, job enrichment, better team performance, and satisfactory customer relations. A link between positive emotions and an upward spiral of personal and organisational resources has also been established where positive self-evaluation, development of resilience, a climate of social support, layout of clearer goals, high quality social-interaction, good health and productivity of workers have been found to promote effective coping.","PeriodicalId":130584,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Organization and Human Behaviour","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129285755","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The constructs, namely psychological capital, and work attitudes like job involvement, job satisfaction, organisational commitment, cynicism, and turnover intention have been described. Based on far reaching Indian as well as western literature and findings, it is suggested that psychological capital would be positively related to desirable attitudes like job satisfaction, organisational commitment, and job involvement whereas negatively related to undesirable attitudes like organisational cynicisms and turnover intention. Through extensive literature and findings, the researcher is aiming to formulate a conceptual model of psychological capital based on propositions and to show how psychological capital is related to job attitudes. With respect to organisational development, this paper also covers practical implication where systematic intervention of psychological capital is given utmost priority. With reference to various organisations and workplaces, how psychological capital can be applied in a scientific direction through proper training, workshop, and web-based programme in order to promote healthy and balanced life.","PeriodicalId":130584,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Organization and Human Behaviour","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129696969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Data on 203 subordinates from 59 managers of a state agency were used to test the study hypotheses. The results indicate that the relationships between promotability and similarity and liking, and between performance and liking were attenuated by supervisor perceptions that the subordinates were insincere in their influence attempts. Implications for the importance of sincerity in interactions with others and directions for future research are offered.","PeriodicalId":130584,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Organization and Human Behaviour","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122412075","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many people are unable to foresee this critical aspect of their future. Therefore, a study of the effect of retirement on army officer's lifestyle, well-being and ability to cope, was undertaken keeping in mind that even after laying down the uniform, an army officer continues to have that ingrained code of conduct and ethical values that he has served and practised in his professional and personal life. Retirees experience adversity in emotional and their wellbeing. One must study the disparity that is felt when an officer retires and settles in an environment which may be different from his earlier one. This will help in identifying the coping ability, their well-being and lifestyle factors associated with retirement so that it promotes a peaceful and satisfying post retired life. It was found through qualitative analysis of semi structured interviews that retirement might coincide with many important life changes and adopting a new lifestyle. Lifestyle changes may require unforeseen adaptation and adjustments that result in a sense of disenchantment affecting their well-being.","PeriodicalId":130584,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Organization and Human Behaviour","volume":"241 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124653662","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
