In this paper, we investigate the potential of gaze-only machine controls and its implications. In order to achieve that, a prototypical system is built upon a mobile eye tracker, that allows users to trigger binary actions and manipulate object states. To evaluate our approach, two user studies with 35 participants in total were conducted in controlled laboratory environments. A detailed comparison between physical and gaze-only interaction highlights significant improvements of interaction efficiency up from a certain distance and we further found that the distance to the objects had no significant effect on the task completion times for gaze-only interactions within the scope of the study. Finally, two placements of selection areas for advanced interactions, that go beyond binary, were evaluated in detail.","PeriodicalId":130190,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 11th PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments Conference","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125233107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we present COSMOS, a knowledge system that fully addresses these challenges, in an efficient way, paving the way for a new generation of knowledge systems. Using our approach, it is possible for domain experts to generate temporal knowledge rules. As those rules are saved to our knowledge base, a conflict detection mechanism detects and solves rule conflicts. Then, an inference engine is able to perform efficiently, accurate decisions, based on available factual information using reasoning and handling uncertainty. Ontologies are used to model both the factual information and the data items in the rules enabling also interoperability with existing systems. To validate our approach, as an application scenario, we deploy our infrastructure in a health environment where doctors provide rules that are activated over a patient health record. Preliminary results indicate the benefits of our approach for decision support based on health data, successfully identifying adverse events and enabling intelligent patient monitoring.","PeriodicalId":130190,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 11th PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments Conference","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125523099","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Human pose estimation algorithms may exhibit estimation noise or may completely fail to provide estimates for some joints. A post-process is often employed to recover the missing joints' locations from the available ones, typically by enforcing kinematic constraints or by using a prior learned from a database of natural poses. Matrix completion and recovery techniques fall into the latter category and operate by filling-in missing entries of a matrix, with the available/non-missing entries being potentially corrupted by noise. We compare the performance of three such techniques in terms of the estimation error of their output as well as their runtime under varying parameters. We conclude by recommending use cases for each of the compared techniques.","PeriodicalId":130190,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 11th PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments Conference","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127180142","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The technologies are there, the area of artificial intelligence is developing fast and promising and the first demonstrators are already successfully implemented in industry and other domains. The big questions are: Are we willing to have human-robot-companionships? What influences our openness and desire for social relationships with robots? This paper - apart from classical pathways of acceptance research - seeks to find some answers in the aspects of personality and attitudes. The results are based upon an empirical study with 230 participants and give some insights on the correlations of the \"Big-Five\" and human-robot-interaction.","PeriodicalId":130190,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 11th PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments Conference","volume":"124 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127415256","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many existing tele-rehabilitation solutions monitor activity through step counting. However, cycling is an underexplored activity in this context. Many people like cycling, and cycling is part of center-based rehabilitation programs. We developed a custom mobile application that guides cardiac patients during cycling to exercise in a safe and enjoyable manner on scenic routes or routes in their neighborhood. In this paper, we present the results of a 4-week field study in which we evaluated the mobile application with 14 cardiac patients. Our study showed that cardiac patients perceive cycling with our system as a recreational and enjoyable activity, are motivated to make longer bike tours than before using the application, and are able to reach the recommended weekly amount of physical activity for cardiac patients.","PeriodicalId":130190,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 11th PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments Conference","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126177412","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, these systems have to be seen from a broader angle, incorporating several other environmental factors such as the organizational structure or human factors. For this reason, the technology cannot be seen as solitary system, but should rather be included in the context of a scenario of work 4.0. These scenarios can help to classify new technologies, their advantages and constraints in order to provide guidance for the digital development of organizations. While several frameworks have been proposed in terms of technological guidance, most of them focus heavily on technology, neglecting their organizational- and human factors. In order to form a uniform understanding of the construct of industry 4.0, we developed an instrument for rating scenarios of work 4.0 on the relevant dimensions 'technology', 'human' and 'organization'. This paper describes the chosen relevant criteria including possible constraints we encountered. Future work on this topic will include the creation of profiles of scenarios of work 4.0, further validation of the criteria.","PeriodicalId":130190,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 11th PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments Conference","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128857837","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, commercial hardware limit the number of the displayed projections and as a result the need for such applications cannot be satisfied out of the box. This paper discusses the inner workings of LASIMUP (LArge Scale Interactive MUlti-Projection), a platform that aims to bypass that limitation by developing the appropriate software and the use of low-cost supplementary hardware which can enable such functionality. The platform presented has the benefits of being cross-platform, easy to install and affordable to acquire. These factors enable the possibility of creating large scale applications, that otherwise would be impractical to deploy, with a very small financial and operating overhead.","PeriodicalId":130190,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 11th PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments Conference","volume":"428 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114631566","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our homes are becoming increasingly smart and so do our working environments. Aiming to provide assistance that is not only suitable to the current situation, but as well for the involved individuals usually comes along with an increased scale of personal data being collected/requested and processed. While this may not be exceptionally critical as long as data does not leave one's smart home, circumstances change dramatically once smart home data is processed by cloud services, and, all the more, as soon as an interactive assistance system is operated by our employer who may have interest in exploiting the data beyond its original purpose, e. g. for secretly evaluating the work performance of his personnel. In this paper we discuss how a federated identity management could be augmented with distributed usage control and trusted computing technology so as to reliably arrange and enforce privacy-related requirements in externally operated interactive environments.","PeriodicalId":130190,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 11th PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments Conference","volume":"82 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131939679","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is the current standard intervention. The labor-intensive nature of CBT-I hampers its scalability. Digital CBT-I could be an alternative solution, but the therapeutic feedback is too general and over-simplified at present, especially concerning sleep-restriction, a key component of CBT-I and also a standalone intervention. Here, a novel sleep restriction tool is described with an algorithm based on the negotiation of sleep window shift. The algorithm calculates the best-fitting sleep window from self-recorded sleep logs. The results of our study provided information about the tools' alignment with clinical practice. The future step is to improve the tool based on therapists recommendation, develop a functional prototype and carry out validation studies. Strategies used for this tool could create a new perspective in negotiation with digital therapy systems.","PeriodicalId":130190,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 11th PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments Conference","volume":"269 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132878102","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
