Reason vary but a highly recognized fact is that training material provided does not include informal knowledge or expertise. Based on recent advances in cognitive psychology and instructional technologies, we investigate how different forms of video instructions convey process knowledge and informal expertise not in-situ but before the actual work is performed and we can measure this transformation process.","PeriodicalId":130190,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 11th PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments Conference","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125848183","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we propose a learning framework that is based on learning from demonstration at a trajectory level. Specifically, we illustrate a scenario where the Sawyer Robotic Arm must learn to pick and place a specific object according to the demonstration of a human teacher. The purpose of the experiment is to facilitate the effectiveness of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":130190,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 11th PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments Conference","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128307996","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Some social robots simulate feelings (companions) while others just help lifting (assistants). However, they often incite both fascination and fear: what abilities should social robots have and what should remain exclusive to humans? We provide a historical background on the development of robots and related machines (1), discuss examples of social robots (2) and present an expert study on their desired future abilities and applications (3) conducted within the Forum of the European Active and Assisted Living Programme (AAL). The findings indicate that most technologies required for the social robots' emotion sensing are considered ready. For care robots, the experts approve health-related tasks like drawing blood while they prefer humans to do nursing tasks like washing. On a larger societal scale, the acceptance of social robots increases highly significantly with familiarity, making health robots and even military drones more acceptable than sex robots or child companion robots for childless couples. Accordingly, the acceptance of social robots seems to decrease with the level of face-to-face emotions involved.","PeriodicalId":130190,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 11th PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments Conference","volume":"149 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124719180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It allows a citizen to access a service provided by a relying party by exploiting the same credential used with her/his national identity provider. However, in the identification process, the identity provider becomes aware about the type of service accessed by the citizen and this can result in a breach of privacy in several cases, especially when the service is related to health. In this paper, we highlight this breach of privacy and propose a possible solution.","PeriodicalId":130190,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 11th PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments Conference","volume":"448 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116362601","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is considered as a massive disease ranging from 20% to 40% in adult populations of the Western World. Its prevalence is related to insulin resistance, which places individuals at high rates of mortality. An increased fat accumulation rate, can significantly increase the development of liver steatosis, which in later stages may progress into fibrosis and cirrhosis. In recent years, research groups focus on the automated fat detection based on histology and digital image processing. The current project, extends our previous work for the detection and quantification of fatty liver, by characterizing histological findings. It is an extensive study of supervised learning of fat droplet features, in order to exclude other findings from fat ratio computation. The method is evaluated on a set of 13 liver biopsy images, performing 92% accuracy.","PeriodicalId":130190,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 11th PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments Conference","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125605313","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The usual physiotherapy treatment is to perform physical exercises. However, most of LBP patients do not adhere to their home exercises which might increase their pain and disability. Moreover, some LBP patients have false beliefs regarding their pain and they tend to avoid physical movements. In this paper, we propose a LBP Exercise Game with an immersive experience to engage the patients in a virtual environment and distract them from the pain while performing LBP exercises. This solution will enhance the rehabilitation outcome since the patients who are suffering from LBP can use the system at their home and train more for long period of time using a smartphone and low-cost virtual reality device such as Google Cardboard.","PeriodicalId":130190,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 11th PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments Conference","volume":"422 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124214608","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our system is divided in three stages, being: a software that receives the input images; an intermediate interface that creates an alternative representation for the visually impaired; and output devices for tactile and auditory representation. As proof of concept, an initial prototype of recognition of geometric shapes was developed, in which the haptic system was represented by a matrix of LEDs. Empirical evaluations were carried out of the prototype. The preliminary results show that the prototype achieves satisfactory representations, even though some points must be reviewed, such as a suitable display size. With this work, the proof of concept obtained indicates that the proposed system has potential to assist the visually impaired in computer science learning.","PeriodicalId":130190,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 11th PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments Conference","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124434843","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The method retrieves a fixed number of images from a given webpage, and based on them classifies the webpage into a set of established classes with a given probability. The library trains a random forest model built upon the features extracted from images by a pre-trained neural network. The implementation is tested by recognizing weapon class webpages in a curated list of 3859 websites. The results show that the best method of classifying a webpage among the classes of interest is to assign the class according to the maximum probability of any image belonging to this (weapon) class being above the threshold, across all the retrieved images. Our finding can have an important impact in the treatment of internet addictions.","PeriodicalId":130190,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 11th PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments Conference","volume":"68 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123628875","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Obstacles to widespread access to the advantageous effects of meditation include the practice time necessary to become an expert meditator and the identification of a personalized beneficial meditative state once achieved. This work leverages previously published and patented results towards the application of Self-Calibrating Protocol (SCP)-assisted wearable EEG measurement of personalized \"perceptual prints\" and recognition of pre- versus post-meditation perceptual states. We describe avenues towards harvesting the newly enabled technologies towards quantification of meditation benefits and replication of beneficial meditative states leveraging technology to shorten practice times.","PeriodicalId":130190,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 11th PErvasive Technologies Related to Assistive Environments Conference","volume":"78 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122018697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
