Reduction in the number of citizens in rural areas and neglect of agriculture in the previous years have led to numerous economic and social problems. The most important among them include the unfavorable demographic trends, undeveloped infrastructure, small agricultural farms that are not market oriented, a low productivity level of agriculture and a low income per farm, a large share of agriculture in rural economy, a low degree of diversification of rural economy, insufficient investment into rural areas, etc. Such condition is unsustainable because it causes more difficult life and work conditions in rural areas. Rural areas in the Republic of Serbia are the subject of this analysis. The aim of the paper is to examine possibilities of further development of rural areas in Serbia. The methods which will be used in the paper include the methods of synthesis, analysis and compilation.","PeriodicalId":129775,"journal":{"name":"Economics of Sustainable Development","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134528530","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In today's business practice, enterprises that do not do this, run the risk of lagging behind their competitors. It is also important to define an effective open innovation strategy that will contribute to a greater competitive advantage of the enterprise. There are no generalized strategies that enterprises can implement, but guidelines that enterprises must follow and adapt to their own characteristics, strengths and weaknesses are given. The aim of this paper is to highlight the importance of accepting the model of open innovation for modern companies in order to achieve sustainable competitiveness of an enterprise.","PeriodicalId":129775,"journal":{"name":"Economics of Sustainable Development","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117258155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper explains the concept of sustainable development and its dimensions, emphasizing its connection with the communal activity of purification and drainage of atmospheric and wastewater. The evidence from the Republic of Serbia regarding wastewater treatment plants and environmental protection costs raises concerns about sustainability issues. Therefore, the aim of the paper is to point out the importance of increasing wastewater treatment plants' capacity and improving their operability, as well as to emphasize the necessity for structural changes of public utility companies to address the identified problems.","PeriodicalId":129775,"journal":{"name":"Economics of Sustainable Development","volume":"52 3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122640092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The exploitation of resources is moving at an accelerated pace, while their availability is decreasing. The biggest problem is the depletion of non-renewable and limited resources that are the carriers of the raw material base of energy and manufacturing industry, which calls into question the preservation of energy stability and efficiency at the global level. Uncontrolled industrial growth, accompanied by increasingly intensive depletion of non-renewable natural resources, especially fossil fuels, has caused enormous pollution of the environment and the entire planet. In the conditions of depletion of natural resources, negative climate changes accompanied by global warming and a serious threat to the survival of life, it is necessary to adopt and implement the concept of sustainable development. The concept of sustainable development explicitly aims to achieve optimal economic results, while preserving and improving the environment and the social component of development. Natural resources play an extremely important role in achieving economic growth and development. The aim of this paper is to point out the importance of renewable energy sources for achieving sustainable development. It is necessary to investigate the importance of renewable and non-renewable natural resources, as well as the factors that affect their exploitation, with the aim of successfully implementing the concept of sustainable development.","PeriodicalId":129775,"journal":{"name":"Economics of Sustainable Development","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127951502","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The aim of the research is to point out the importance of the circular economy in a globalized society in which the sustainable development is a highly positioned goal. The importance of the issue stems from the fact that social welfare, apart from the development of production, must also be based on the preservation of health and living environment. The paper demonstrates many economic and social benefits from the implementation of the circular economy principles, as well as, the basic elements of this concept. The main objective is to reduce waste from the existing production cycle through the recycling process.","PeriodicalId":129775,"journal":{"name":"Economics of Sustainable Development","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125342342","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
