This study looks at the state of preservation and archiving of cultural heritage in the Southeast Asia region through reviewing 2 cases in Malaysia. Many iconic heritage buildings were demolished in this country during the past decades without being properly achieved for the future generations. Despite living in the digital era, virtual conservation in this region still lags. This study tries to address some of those issues by looking at the available alternatives (the methodology), and also answering the question, what can be done in absence of archived reference materials while the building is still available? Different areas such as digital reconstruction and its importance, digital archiving, virtual reality, the future usage are covered by this study, including social impacts.","PeriodicalId":128616,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127889528","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To identify materials from spectra obtained with an HS/MS camera in outdoor environments, the daylight spectrum in the scene needs to be estimated and removed. A major conventional method for estimating an illumination spectrum based on the dichromatic reflection model requires extracting multiple areas each covering a highlighted uniform material from images beforehand. The proposed method employs a daylight spectrum model and estimates the daylight spectrum as a point within a model subspace in the spectral space, which minimizes the distance from the hyper-plane on which observed spectra distribute. Experimental results with images of rippled water surface show that the proposed method successfully estimates daylight spectrum without the area extraction. The estimation error of the proposed method evaluated with spectral angle mapper is 2.75° on average, which is almost equivalent to the intrinsic error of the daylight model itself, whereas that of the conventional method is 6.83°.","PeriodicalId":128616,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115491186","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the last years, while an increasing number of studies and initiatives about tweets, in both the academic and business worlds, raised, a lack of quantitative studies devoted to assess their potential and effectiveness for organizations promoting Cultural Heritage was recorded. So, this work describes a quantitative analysis of tweets which combines NLP, semantic technologies, geo-referencing and temporal analysis. The initial set of measures aims to characterize people's interest and sensitivity into CH subjects, geographical density of CH resources, and temporal proximity to CH-related events. Furthermore, in order to evidence the relevance of the obtained results, they are compared to similar measures computed for different but more general topics -- such as Medicine - while at the same time entail a certain specificity of interest, which cannot be confused with reactions to common mainstream, glamour or massive-impressive events (earthquakes, political elections, wars, amazing news). This kind of analysis was focused on huge datasets of tweets, issued in a long period of time from geographical areas of Italy having different densities of CH resources, The results encourage and sustain a Business-Intelligence approach which is suitable for both no-profit ad business oriented organizations, such as those involved in the DATABENC District.","PeriodicalId":128616,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115516987","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A short state of the art is described, followed by recent references oriented on iris and retinal characteristics. The brief description of our proposed bimodal system is also described with experimental results of scanned eye's retina and iris. The main part is focused on enhanced optical setup for the iris/retina acquirement of a human eye. This unique combination in one particular apparatus can be used for medical (ophthalmology) as well as for biometric purposes. Scan in one cycle can significantly save the work time in comparison with separate scanning of each part separately.","PeriodicalId":128616,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115356613","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, it may have serious impacts on Earth such as failure of satellite communication and navigation (GPS), satellite damage, increased radiation exposure to astronauts, geomagnetic storm and aurora, and power plant failures causing more serious disaster. For a precise forecast of larger scale solar flares causing serious disaster, it is important to improve the space weather forecast, which is basically a daily forecast of the solar flare. In our work so far, a machine-learning algorithm called Support Vector Machine (SVM) was used to forecast the space weather. Here, we propose to extend this technology by integrating a Genetic Algorithm (GA) for a more precise forecast and present an evaluation of this approach.","PeriodicalId":128616,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128092124","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

{"title":"An Improved Concept Vector Space Model for Ontology Based Classification","authors":"Zenun Kastrati, Ali Shariq Imran, Sule YAYILGAN YILDIRIM","doi":"10.1109/SITIS.2015.102","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/SITIS.2015.102","url":null,"abstract":"This paper proposes an improved concept vector space (ICVS) model which takes into account the importance of ontology concepts. Concept importance shows how important a concept is in an ontology. This is reflected by the number of relations a concept has to other concepts. Concept importance is computed automatically by converting the ontology into a graph initially and then employing one of the Markov based algorithms. Concept importance is then aggregated with concept relevance which is computed using the frequency of concept occurrences in the dataset. In order to demonstrate the applicability of our proposed model and to validate its efficacy, we conducted experiments on document classification using concept based vector space model. The dataset used in this paper consists of 348 documents from the funding domain. The results show that the proposed model yields higher classification accuracy comparing to traditional concept vector space (CVS) model, ultimately giving better document classification performance. We also used different classifiers in order to check for the classification accuracy. We tested CVS and ICVS on Naive Bayes and Decision Tree classifiers and the results show that the classification performance in terms of F1 measure is improved when ICVS is used on both classifiers.","PeriodicalId":128616,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126676262","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Unlike hard disk, however, flash memory requires of garbage collection which consists of the copying and erasion operations and lowers the storage device performance. This study suggests a new garbage collection policy, aiming at reducing garbage collection overhead. The suggested garbage collection selects victim blocks in reference to the ratio of the hot page, and then reduces the number of copying and erasion by reducing the number of effective pages in the following GC operation. To evaluate the suggested method, a trace-driven simulation was conducted in comparison of the suggested method with the existing GC method. As a result, the performance was improved as much as 6~17% in terms of the number of copying and 4~20% in terms of the number of erasion. The total time of garbage collection was reduced as much as 9~28%, which proves the performance improvement.","PeriodicalId":128616,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122484136","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It measures the positions of a ball from multiple video sequences in real time. The positions can be used for calculating various statistical data and making visual effects for a broadcast program. Although a number of methods for visual object tracking have been proposed, tracking a small ball is still a challenging task. We focused on the motion features of a ball object, adding to its appearance features. We created two discriminate models for tracking a ball in the manner of supervised machine learning. The appearance classifier was trained with visual features of ball images, and the motion classifier was trained with ball trajectories. Tracking results from multiple cameras are integrated in consideration of their reliabilities, and the final ball position is robustly measured. The system was evaluated with two professional football games. The results showed that the proposed system is effective for practical use at football games.","PeriodicalId":128616,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131821731","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Email is used for project coordination, but also for design, implementation and test. Especially with currents agile development methods, it is very common to interact through computer meditated communication like email, instant messaging and other collaborative tools in order to express functional needs, notify of issues and take appropriate decisions. In this paper we propose a Knowledge Trace Retrieval (KTR) system. It addresses the problem of retrieving elements of problem solving and design rationale inside business emails from a project. Even if knowledge management tools and practices are well spread in industry, they are rarely used for small projects. Our system aims at helping user retrieve traces of problem solving knowledge in large corpus of email from a past project. The framework and methodology is based on enhanced context (project data, user competencies and profiles), and use machine learning technics and ranking algorithm.","PeriodicalId":128616,"journal":{"name":"2015 11th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS)","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2015-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123373411","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
