This paper proposes a semantic gateway for IoT, a middleware capable to forward data streams to and from devices by means of different protocols such as MQTT, Socket and even non-IP device specific protocols. Also, the proposed middleware, which includes a REST/JSON programming interface for other middleware and for IoT applications, is considered to be semantic because it has the ability to receive data from sensors that communicate using different protocol suites, such as the TCP/IP stack and wireless sensor network protocols, and then performs data transformations, semantic intermediation and routing to the cloud. The proposed gateway is designed as a component to allow the application of fog computation principles in IoT networks. Based on tests performed with a developed prototype, this paper presents evaluation results regarding the functionality and the performance of the proposed gateway.","PeriodicalId":128267,"journal":{"name":"Companion Proceedings of the10th International Conference on Utility and Cloud Computing","volume":"251 8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124452962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Areas of interest range from the design of hardware and infrastructure, protocol performance and data analytics, power management and energy harvesting, through to trust mechanisms and decentralised governance. Utility clouds play an important role in the specification, design and realisation of approaches to the Internet of Things (IoT), and there is much to be explored from both the evaluation of traditional approaches to managing distributed networks of devices, as well as the application of novel approaches and technologies to solve emerging challenges. This workshop provides the forum for research communities to discuss, tools, technologies, techniques, methods, approaches and frameworks for the utilisation of utility clouds and cloud-like architectures for the IoT.","PeriodicalId":128267,"journal":{"name":"Companion Proceedings of the10th International Conference on Utility and Cloud Computing","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121268305","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We describe the reengineering that must be done in this middleware and, finally, we analyze the advantages and disadvantages of this approach, highlighting the availability improvement, optimization of the infrastructure resources, the ease of maintenance and evolution, as well as the inclination to the elasticity that the architecture allows.","PeriodicalId":128267,"journal":{"name":"Companion Proceedings of the10th International Conference on Utility and Cloud Computing","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115881674","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The current techniques to detect and protect cyber infrastructures from these smart and sophisticated attacks are mainly characterized as being ad hoc, manual intensive, and too slow. We present in this paper AIM-PSC that is developed jointly by researchers at AVIRTEK and The University of Arizona Center for Cloud and Autonomic Computing that is inspired by biological systems, which can efficiently handle complexity, dynamism and uncertainty. In AIM-PSC system, an online monitoring and multi-level analysis are used to analyze the anomalous behaviors of networks, software systems and applications. By combining the results of different types of analysis using a statistical decision fusion approach we can accurately detect any types of cyber-attacks with high detection and low false alarm rates and proactively respond with corrective actions to mitigate their impacts and stop their propagation.","PeriodicalId":128267,"journal":{"name":"Companion Proceedings of the10th International Conference on Utility and Cloud Computing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127453457","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The massive growth in size and scale of data and computing leads to an enormous growth in the size and complexity of clusters and data centers. Therefore, traditional management methods and standards like Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) are not sufficient to manage these modern scalable data centers anymore. Redfish is a new standard for managing hardware in modern data centers and is anticipated to meet the expectations of end users to provide simple, effective, and secure management of scalable platform hardware. It is essential to validate Redfish's capability regarding the performance, scalability and security aspects as defined in the Redfish Specification. To validate Redfish services, we have designed a Redfish Conformance Test Tool (RCTT) which tests compliance and re-instates faith on the viability of Redfish at meeting customer expectations.","PeriodicalId":128267,"journal":{"name":"Companion Proceedings of the10th International Conference on Utility and Cloud Computing","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125315013","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Advances in software-defined radio (SDR) and networking technology, moreover, enable delivering software-defined everything through the Cloud. Resources will be pooled and dynamically allocated leveraging abstraction, virtualization, and consolidation techniques; processes will be automated using common application programming interfaces; and network functions and services will be programmatically provided through an orchestrator. OOCRAN, oocran.dynu.com, is a software framework that is based on the NFV MANO architecture proposed by ETSI. It provides an orchestration layer for the entire wireless infrastructure, including hardware, software, spectrum, fronthaul and backhaul. OOCRAN extends existing NFV management frameworks by incorporating the radio communications layers and their management dependencies. The wireless infrastructure provider can then dynamically provision virtualized wireless networks to wireless service providers. The testbed's physical infrastructure is built around a computing cluster that executes open-source SDR libraries and connects to SDR-based remote radio heads. We demonstrate the operation of OOCRAN and discuss the temporal implications of dynamic LTE small cell network deployments.","PeriodicalId":128267,"journal":{"name":"Companion Proceedings of the10th International Conference on Utility and Cloud Computing","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121769749","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This toolset automates numerous manual installation steps and post-installation tests. The toolset uses Python programs to prepare the target system and to generate installation-configuration files through interaction with a web-interface of the POWER firmware. Expect scripts are used to drive the rest of the installation via interactions through a remote text console. With different scenarios of applying this automation toolset, we demonstrate its use in driving regression testing for the development of the NovaLink installer in a DevOps environment. These entities are managed by using the concepts of blockchain ledger and distributed through an advance mechanism to protect them against tampering. All identities created using VeidBlock approach are verifiable and anonymous therefore it preserves user's privacy in verification and authentication phase. As a proof of concept, we implemented and tested the VeidBlock protocols by integrating it in a SDN based infrastructure. Analysis of the test results yield that all components successfully and autonomously performed initial authentication and locally verified all the identities of connected components.","PeriodicalId":128267,"journal":{"name":"Companion Proceedings of the10th International Conference on Utility and Cloud Computing","volume":"175 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133074293","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To this end the digital age offers many mechanisms to not only enable timely communication, but also bilateral communication. Mechanisms such as blog posts and online press releases allow cities and organisations to leverage these benefits. However, to assess the efficacy of these communication mechanisms, cities need to track the virality of the news they publish. To this end we propose a novel architecture that uses natural language processing techniques to track not only the resharing of the original articles, but also other articles and posts about that article. We have developed a prototype implementation of this article and present the interface as well as the results of performance tests.","PeriodicalId":128267,"journal":{"name":"Companion Proceedings of the10th International Conference on Utility and Cloud Computing","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-05","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129443527","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
