In this paper, three structures of complementary split-ring resonators (CSRRs) coupled to microstrip lines are investigated with ex-vivo characterization of animal tissues. Compared to ring resonators, their main advantage consists in more compact sensors, enabling a better local dielectric characterization of the tissues. The extraction of dielectric parameters is obtained by an optimization process based on a comparison of experimental results with electromagnetic simulations with full-wave three-dimensional (3D) finite element method implemented in HFSS and CST.","PeriodicalId":128207,"journal":{"name":"2018 18th International Symposium on Antenna Technology and Applied Electromagnetics (ANTEM)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116807447","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This antenna consists of two conventional ALTSAs with one stacked on top of the other, forming a balanced structure. By arranging the middle tapers in the same direction and coinciding with each other, the field components corresponding to the cross-polarization can be canceled, thereby improving the polarization purity. The antenna feeding network from the single layer transmission line to the double layer radiation structure is also presented. Measurement is in good agreement with simulation for both the return loss from 22 to 34 GHz, and the E and H-plane radiation patterns at 28 GHz. The measured antenna gain is 10.32 dBi, and the measured cross-polarization is 28 dB lower than the copolarization. The proposed antenna demonstrates the potential of using balanced structure in the ALTSA design for crosspolarization suppression.","PeriodicalId":128207,"journal":{"name":"2018 18th International Symposium on Antenna Technology and Applied Electromagnetics (ANTEM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117015607","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is shown that if the region outside the boundary with curvature discontinuities is mapped onto a region with a smooth boundary the reciprocal of the metric coefficient of the transformation describes exactly the singular behavior of the field components near the surface discontinuities. This is shown first mathematically for a conducting wedge. Then, the problem of a TM scattering by the wedge and a conducting prism is investigated, and shown again the same relationship between the surface currents and the reciprocal of the transformation metric coefficients. This property is used to develop a new integral equation by eliminating the singularity of the surface current in the integral equation. This study also showed that the product of the prism surface current and the metric coefficient of the transformation behaved nearly the same as the surface current on a corresponding circular cylinder, an interesting geometrical relationship.","PeriodicalId":128207,"journal":{"name":"2018 18th International Symposium on Antenna Technology and Applied Electromagnetics (ANTEM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129487065","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
