First, we introduce a timed extension of the finite state machines model. We consider that (output) actions take time to be performed. In addition to present our formalism, we develop a testing theory. Thus, we introduce a notion of timed test and define how to apply tests to implementations under test.","PeriodicalId":127732,"journal":{"name":"Third International Conference on Systems (icons 2008)","volume":"121 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123700240","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In our model we define three evaluation levels: Models, Parameters and Policies. Each level is composed by a set of evaluation criteria. Our model is illustrated by an evaluation study of principale existing approaches of QoS management in RTDBMS. We aim to help designers of real time database management systems to choose the most appropriate QoS management approach corresponding to their real time application requirements.","PeriodicalId":127732,"journal":{"name":"Third International Conference on Systems (icons 2008)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129743815","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Motivated by this property of a time-triggered protocol, we propose the synchronous timed streams concept, which can be viewed as an extension of the timed streams concept in the FOCUS modeling language. We show how the synchronous timed streams concept can effectively capture the essential communication mechanism of the FlexRay communication protocol - a time-triggered communication protocol for automotive systems.","PeriodicalId":127732,"journal":{"name":"Third International Conference on Systems (icons 2008)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124655467","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To study the deformations and to develop new MR methods with these deformations suppressed, a method for measuring magnetic susceptibility has been designed for samples that do not produce MR signals. We present here our recent research concerning dynamic geometry systems and their influence in learners' mental representations of geometric objects: how the comprehension of concepts in geometry can be improved. Our psychological supports are PIAGET and VYGOTSKY researches, and our mathematical support is the VAN HIELE 's model, which deals with geometric reasoning. We also used some theories from problem resolution and knowledge representation, mainly the ones commonly used by computer and cognitive scientists. In order to evaluate our research we developed two experimental procedures: 1. with naif learners, exploring the content of triangles: classifications, sides, etc; 2. with advanced learners, investigating contents, volume calculations, and formula deductions using the CAVALIERI's principle. The results show that introducing dynamic geometry systems in these processes has improved learners' performances on visualization of geometric objects and comprehension of geometric concepts.","PeriodicalId":127732,"journal":{"name":"Third International Conference on Systems (icons 2008)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123170240","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The presented approach offers a reusable framework for Internet-based embedded system applications. The framework provides a development environment kernel that can be adapted for various safety/security critical embedded system application domains. It stems from the IEEE 1451.1 smart transducer interface standard that provides an object-based networking model mediating efficient and unified access to distributed components through both wired and wireless networks. The paper discusses this framework not only from the viewpoint of framework builders, but also end-user developers. In this context, it demonstrates how to use that approach for a safety and security-critical application with Internet and ZigBee.","PeriodicalId":127732,"journal":{"name":"Third International Conference on Systems (icons 2008)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126754582","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

HySAT is an arithmetic constraint solver with a tightly integrated bounded model checker for hybrid discrete-continuous systems which - in contrast to many other solvers - is not confined to linear arithmetic, but can also deal with nonlinear constraints involving transcendental functions. Based on a controller for train separation implementing a \"moving block\" interlocking scheme in the forthcoming European Train Control System Level 3, we exemplify the usage of the tool over the whole cycle from encoding a hybrid system to interpreting the results.","PeriodicalId":127732,"journal":{"name":"Third International Conference on Systems (icons 2008)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130033359","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This system can be used by both local and distant learning communities, working together towards a common goal. The paper presents a background for the project and describes the preliminary design.
