We propose an integral approach for incorporating results of fault tree analysis (FTA) and failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) into the requirements specification. In our approach statecharts facilitate construction of a control system and serve as a basis for structuring and integrating results of FTA and FMEA. The use of statecharts as a communication media between safety and software engineers assists the process of requirements discovery. The approach is illustrated by excerpts from the development of realistic industrial system - the liquid handling workstation Fillwelltrade.","PeriodicalId":127732,"journal":{"name":"Third International Conference on Systems (icons 2008)","volume":"32 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132247466","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The filter can operate at very high frequencies and with a very low supply voltage, without affecting the signal-to-noise ratio. The filter design starts from an autonomous circuit with general current elements referred to as DOCAs (dual output current amplifiers). The characteristic equation (CE) of this circuit is successively modified to be capable of controlling some parameters of the designed filter and setting the value of the quality factor independently. The paper also contains verification results of the universal filter characteristics based on a 3rd-order behavioral model of the UCC (Universal Current Conveyor).","PeriodicalId":127732,"journal":{"name":"Third International Conference on Systems (icons 2008)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130503698","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Mobile learning supported by ICTs offers an excellent experimentation scenario for accessibility and adaptability research as the environment itself depends on the learner in a high level. Dependability attributes reported here include availability, reliability, maintainability and survivability (ARMS). This research uses computer simulation and knowledge extraction to introduce a new approach to measure dependability of wireless networks. Earlier research has used computer simulation for estimating wireless network dependability. This work introduces a new methodology which uses discrete time event simulation in-put/output to train an artificial neural network and then extract knowledge via decision trees. A comparison of decision tree extraction technique results are discussed, including those from neural (TREPAN) and non neural networks (C4.5). Significant insights are gained into increasing wireless infrastructure dependability through such knowledge extraction techniques; however the neural approach is superior from a parsimonious and comprehensibility perspective.","PeriodicalId":127732,"journal":{"name":"Third International Conference on Systems (icons 2008)","volume":"66 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-04-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125893630","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, in many practical situations, slips are inevitable. In this work, we develop a theoretical and systematic framework to include slip dynamics into the overall dynamics of the wheeled mobile robot (WMR). Such a dynamic model is useful to understand the slip characteristics during navigation of the WMR. We further design a planner and a controller that allow efficient navigation of the WMR by controlling the slip. Preliminary simulation results are presented to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed modeling and control techniques.","PeriodicalId":127732,"journal":{"name":"Third International Conference on Systems (icons 2008)","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-02-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115750021","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
