Bavec","doi":"10.5474/geologija.2020.018","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5474/geologija.2020.018","url":null,"abstract":"The presented work provides a comprehensive inventory of data on closed (or in closing phase) and abandoned underground and surface mines and mining waste sites in Slovenia, collected within the framework of the Geological Survey of Slovenia (GeoZS) over the last two decades. Furthermore, a detailed overview of information on closed and abandoned mining waste sites in Slovenia is given. In order to establish the inventory, a definition of the work methodology, a comprehensive research of the archived and published literature, and the harmonisation and management of the collected data was carried out. Based on a selected methodology, the inventory contains information on 33 metal mines, 43 coal mines, 51 non-metallic mineral resource mines, 156 waste sites from metal mines and 18 waste sites from coal mines. The inventory is in the open access Google Earth file. It provides a basis for further research into the environmental impact of mining waste, which has been carried out since the EU Directive on the management of waste from extractive industries (Directive 2006/21/EC hereafter) was adopted into national law. In general, about 11,621,333 m3 of waste sites from metal mines and 76,188,000 m3 of waste sites from coal mines are covering about 678 hectares of Slovenian territory. More than half (64 %) of the waste from metal mines was produced in the Mežica lead and zinc mine, while the other two mines with a still significant share of produced waste were the Idrija mercury mine (18 %) and the Žirovski vrh uranium mine (15 %). The mineral composition reflects geological factors, especially the presence of igneous and metamorphic rocks in the surroundings of Maribor and in the Drava River catchment. Quartz prevails, followed by plagioclases, muscovite/illite, chlorite and dolomite. Potassium feldspar, amphiboles and calcite are also present in some samples. Relatively high pH values (6.9–7.4), high contents of plant-available phosphorous (13.5–185 mg/100 g of soil) and potassium in some samples reflect the anthropogenic influence on the pedological characteristics. The medians of the organic matter and carbonate contents are 8 % and 6.1 %, respectively. The majority of the samples belong to the sandy loam texture class, followed by loam class. Previous chemical analyses showed high contents of some potentially toxic elements (PTEs), especially Cu, Pb and Zn. We determined the fractionation of As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb and Zn using a sequential extraction procedure. All PTEs, except Mn, are mostly bound to organic matter and residual fraction soluble in aqua regia, meaning that they are relatively strongly bound to soil components. Arsenic, Co, Cr and Ni are particularly strongly bound. The contents in the first and second stage, which represent the most easily exchangeable fractions of PTEs, are negligible. Vega","doi":"10.5474/geologija.2020.004","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.5474/geologija.2020.004","url":null,"abstract":"The cuticle structure of fossil decapod crustaceans is an important tool, not only for palaeocological and taphonomic interpretations, but also as a potential way to characterise systematically genera and even species the cuticle of which has not been severely altered by diagenetic processes. Localities with abundant decapod crustacean remains can be interpreted either as reflecting mass mortality events or just simple accumulations of exuviae, on the basis of completeness and comparison of cuticle structures between specimens of the same species from different localities. Association with anoxic events by microfacies analyses can offer clues to explain the unusual abundance of decapod crustacean remains. This is the case for the Early Cretaceous lobster Atherfieldastacus magnus (M’Coy, 1849), which is found in large numbers in different Lower Cretaceous (mainly Aptian) lithostratigraphic units across the globe. In this case, we document the well-preserved cuticle structure of specimens from the upper Aptian of Chihuahua (Mexico), preserved three-dimensionally, mainly in concretions, which were studied in different transverse sections showing the cuticle in diverse portions of the lobster body. There is an urgent need to reach compatibility of fossil portunoid taxa with this new classification. Furthermore, several genera with a variety of both Recent and fossil representatives, e.g., the genus Portunus ( sensu lato ), have been split into other genera, but referring fossil species to these is still problematic. In order to facilitate the development of an integrated system that includes both extant and extinct portunoid taxa, a review of recent results regarding the phylogeny of portunoid crabs, an update of their extant taxa classification and a reappraisal of important morphological characters that can be used for assessment of both fossil and contemporary species are presented. A new subfamily, Parathranitiinae, is established within the Carcinidae and within the Portunidae, another new subfamily, Achelouinae, is introduced.
