The codes are constructed by using differential evolution, partial brute force search, and the lengthening method introduced by Nguyen et al.. The protograph ensembles satisfy the linear minimum distance growth property and have the lowest iterative decoding thresholds yet reported in the literature among protograph codes without punctured variable nodes. Simulation results show that the new codes perform better than state-of-the-art protograph codes when the number of decoding iterations is small.","PeriodicalId":127191,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124432155","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this situation there is a trade-off between acquiring as many independent observations as possible and performing averaging over several identical measurements in order to improve signal-to-noise ratio. With the help of the approximate message passing algorithm to solve LASSO problems, we have proved, via state evolution, that in order to minimize estimation errors one should perform as many independent linear measurements as possible rather than performing averaging to improve signal-to-noise ratio of the observations. Furthermore, we have confirmed via numerical experiments that the same holds in the case where the measurement matrix is constructed by randomly subsampling rows of a discrete Fourier matrix.","PeriodicalId":127191,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127818303","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

If the DFT X⃗ of the signal x⃗ has only k non-zero coefficients (where k <; n), can we do better? In [1], we presented a novel FFAST (Fast Fourier Aliasing-based Sparse Transform) algorithm that cleverly induces sparse graph codes in the DFT domain, via a Chinese-Remainder-Theorem (CRT)-guided sub-sampling operation of the time-domain samples. The resulting sparse graph code is then exploited to devise a simple and fast iterative onion-peeling style decoder that computes an n length DFT of a signal using only O(k) time-domain samples and O(k log k) computations, in the absence of any noise. In this paper, we extend the FFAST framework of [1] to the case where the time-domain samples are corrupted by white Gaussian noise. In particular, we show that the extended noise robust algorithm R-FFAST computes an n-length k-sparse DFT X⃗ using O(k log n)1 noise-corrupted time-domain samples, in O(n log n) computations2. While our theoretical results are for signals with a uniformly random support of the non-zero DFT coefficients and additive white Gaussian noise, we provide simulation results which demonstrates that the R-FFAST algorithm performs well even for signals like MR images, that have an approximately sparse Fourier spectrum with a non-uniform support for the dominant DFT coefficients.","PeriodicalId":127191,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122246044","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, a comprehensive theoretical analysis concerning more realistic signal models is still lacking. In this paper, we consider the sampling of stochastic processes and random fields in the Fourier domain. We propose a new variable-density sampling and linear reconstruction technique, and prove its theoretical recovery guarantee. For high dimensional random fields, uniform sampling requires a number of samples increasing exponentially with the dimension, while the variable density sampling scheme guarantees faithful recovery performance with a polynomial size of random samples.","PeriodicalId":127191,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory","volume":"88 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116617069","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two key ingredients of the TMP algorithm are pre-selection to put a restriction on the indices of columns in Φ being investigated and tree pruning to avoid the investigation of unpromising paths in the search. In the noisy setting, we show that TMP identifies the support (index set of nonzero elements) accurately when the signal power is larger than the constant multiple of noise power. In the empirical simulations, we confirm this results by showing that TMP performs close to an ideal estimator (often called Oracle estimate) for high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime.","PeriodicalId":127191,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117023522","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For point-to-point systems, this amounts to a simple trade-off between message transmission and source transmission: an optimal strategy is to split total capacity into two components, one for message transmission and one for source transmission as long as the message and the source sequence are independent of each other. For the multi-user case, we show that this is no longer the case by examining the simple problem of sending a common source sequence and two independent messages through a Gaussian broadcast channel.","PeriodicalId":127191,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory","volume":"152 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131397990","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors previously introduced a new universal non-prefix Type Size code for memoryless sources in which codewords lengths are chosen in ascending order of type class sizes. This paper presents a converse on the third-order coding rate for general class of fixed-to-variable codes and proves the optimality of Type Size codes for memoryless sources. Our motivation to tackle this problem is originated by a recent work by Kulkarni and Kiyavash who introduced a method, based upon tools from hypergraph theory, to calculate explicit upper bounds on the cardinalities of deletion-correcting codes. Under their setup, the deletion channel is represented by a hypergraph such that every deletion ball is a hyperedge. Since every code is a matching in the hypergraph, an upper bound on the codes is given by an upper bound on the largest matching in a hypergraph. This bound, called here the generalized sphere packing bound, can be found by the solution of a linear programming problem. We similarly study and analyze specific examples of error channels. We start with the Z channel and show how to exactly find the generalized sphere packing bound for this setup. Next studied is the non-binary limited magnitude channel both for symmetric and asymmetric errors. We focus on the case of single error and derive upper bounds on the generalized sphere packing bound in this channel. We follow up on the deletion case, which was the original motivation of the work by Kulkarni and Kiyavash, and show how to improve upon their upper bounds for the single deletion case. Finally, we apply this method for projective spaces and find its generalized sphere packing bound for the single-error case.","PeriodicalId":127191,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133102043","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When the target class is a non-exponential family, a modification of Jeffreys prior which has measure outside the given family of densities was introduced to achieve the minimax regret [8], under certain regularity conditions. In this paper, we show that the models with hidden variables satisfy those regularity conditions, when the hidden variables' model is an exponential family. In paticular, we do not have to restrict the class of data strings so that the MLE is in the interior of the parameter space for the case of the general mixture family.","PeriodicalId":127191,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132077780","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, it is not always realistic to know the CSIT perfectly when the channel is varying rapidly with time. In that case, a delayed CSIT is a more reasonable assumption. In this paper, we study the DoF of interfering multiple input single output (MISO) broadcast channel (BC) when the delayed CSIT is known perfectly. We propose a space-time transmission scheme based on interference alignment for two-cell interfering MISO-BC with M transmit antennas and K users in each cell. Considering the various cases, we suggest that the achievable per cell DoF converges to K/K+1 in the case when M = K and the outdated CSIT is known perfectly. The DoF per cell approaches 1 as the number of users in each cell approach to infinity.","PeriodicalId":127191,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE International Symposium on Information Theory","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124549037","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
