In this paper, we establish different types of EV charger models for slow charging (SC) and fast charging (FC) and propose an algorithm to simulate load demand by taking characters of EV user behavior into consideration on the basis of the research data. Furthermore, based on the simulation of two chargers in MATLAB and the load curve we forecast, the harmonic analysis for EV charging station is discussed.","PeriodicalId":126140,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128358866","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, if not being designed properly, carbon market cannot fulfill its original intention of design under the influences of both internal and external disturbances. There is an urgent need for models or tools for ex-ante simulation analysis of the carbon market. Since in a market environment, disturbances will influence the carbon market dynamics through trading behaviors, it is important to accurately model carbon trading behaviors. In this paper, an improved carbon trading behavioral modelling method combining discretized statistical analysis and extreme learning machine (ELM) is proposed. Based on the trading samples of human participants, stochastic behavioral model can be constructed by using discretized statistical analysis method. However, the unevenly distributed number of samples make it difficult to obtain reliable statistical results in some discretized value intervals. Thus, based on the results of discretized statistical analysis, ELM is used to further improve modeling accuracy by utilizing its generalization capability. The case studies validate the feasibility of the proposed method.","PeriodicalId":126140,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133063471","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the calculation of these two values mainly depends on the trip characteristics of the public transport system, including the trip length and the occupancy of vehicles, which are not readily available to public. The analysis of the massive trip data requires strong computational power and thus long processing time, which is not appropriate for the early phase design of vehicle concept. To calculate the energy consumption of a public transport system, this paper introduces a novel approach only based on variables that are generally open to public, including daily fleet mileage and the daily total ridership. This approach can be rapidly implemented for different vehicles and different public transport systems. Therefore, it can be used for a rapid evaluation of the vehicle concept designs for specific public transport systems. The approach is also useful for power grid planners to quickly decide if the infrastructure is ready for the electrification of the public transport system.","PeriodicalId":126140,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129442432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A study case in streetlights system is conducted as representing the radial system which drives peak load. Since there are various types of BES characteristics, while each type has different characteristics such as energy density, storage cost, and lifetime, the optimal BES configuration becomes complicated. Due to this complexity, to design a BES system to shave peak load, optimization algorithm, namely Crazy-PSO is utilized. The factors affecting the NPV and BES configuration are investigated such as BES lifetime, BES replacement cost due to run out of the lifetime, investment, saving cost, and quantity of BES configuration. Moreover, this paper’s essence is to point out the contrast between BES optimization in investment and NPV objective functions.","PeriodicalId":126140,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia)","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129002756","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Uy extending the concept of residual demand curves (RDCs) from energy to reserve, the residual reserve curves (RRCs) are proposed to model the regulation price as a function of the power plant’s reserve power. Uoth RRCs and RDCs are obtained using a clustering based neural network approach, which resulted in better estimates than using only a non-parametric approach. The machine learning is used to make approximations to the state space, and the dynamic programming only loops over the required states. As such, the computation effort is reduced but the solution quality does not be impacted. The value functions generated during the day-ahead optimization are used to generate optimal supply offer curves for the day-ahead market, and make real-time decisions and real-time bids to stay optimal by solving Uellman optimality condition. The effectiveness of the MSADP approach is demonstrated using empirical data obtained from the New England ISO.","PeriodicalId":126140,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia)","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128840962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Either they have to establish new generation plants with an expense of millions of dollars or to look deeper into the existing system to design and deploy techniques that can lead to a significant amount of energy saving. Today, researchers are extensively working towards energy efficiency and conservation via developing different techniques. In the said domain, energy monitoring is one of the key techniques which is an attractive and popular research topic in the field of sustainable energy. It is single-point sensing or commonly known as Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring (NILM) that is used to extract the appliance level energy consumption. For a NILM system, event detection plays a key role and is a pre-requisite for the later stages of the system. In this paper a simple and low complexity event detection algorithm is proposed. Digital simulation and sensitivity studies have been carried out using real world data to check the performance and sensitivity of the proposed algorithm. Furthermore, the results of the proposed algorithm are compared with the existing event detection algorithm for evaluation purposes.","PeriodicalId":126140,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia)","volume":"520 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123128015","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several models have been proposed to make the visualisation more creative and interactive to achieve significant energy savings among the energy users. However, advocating this visualisation among the users requires policy analysts and government bodies to design relevant energy efficiency policies. This paper has analysed the requirements of an interactive energy visualisation system named ECoS (Energy Control System) through user-centered techniques such as survey and design thinking activity, and the top seven features of the system are identified, designed and implemented. These features are assessed through usability testing and the software is updated based on the feedback from the participants. With all these assessments and analysis, five policy recommendations for the government and other stakeholders are discussed to make effective use of this visualisation software to induce sustainable behavioural change among users. This energy visualisation software will help energy users to understand their energy profile, and take certain easy actions for better control of their energy usage.","PeriodicalId":126140,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia)","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132236092","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sophisticated protection schemes cannot be implemented using fuses, reclosers and Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs). Limited numbers of overcurrent relays are used in distribution systems. Voltage based protection is often not economical for distribution systems. Economics often limits the use of sophisticated relays in distribution systems. Smart Meters (SMs) are available at various load points in a distribution system. SMs are equipped with measuring, calculation and communication capabilities. This paper proposes the utilization of SMs in distribution system protection. The possible applications of SMs in high impedance faults (HIF), overcurrent, reverse power, series arcing and under-voltage protection of distribution systems are identified in this paper. One of the advantages of the proposed approach is that voltage-based protection can also be implemented using SMs. The effectiveness of the proposed SM-based protection has been demonstrated by simulating a European low voltage test feeder comprising of 906 buses in PSCAD. As a part of hardware validation, protection functionalities have been implemented in a commercial SM. The SM trips a Molded Case Circuit Breaker (MCCB) upon detecting a fault.
