However, as the penetration rate of renewable energy generation grows, the uncertainty and instability of power system increases. Therefore, it is necessary to find a way to contribute toward the massive introduction of renewable energy power generation. In the present study, the authors develop an interconnection-based unit commitment model by using mixed integer linear programming considering the function of batteries. The relationship among battery energy capacity, battery output power capacity, curtailment of renewable energy generation, and fuel cost of thermal units is analyzed using this model. As a result, it is found that increasing both output power capacity and battery capacity can reduce fuel cost and encourage the introduction of renewable energy resources. Furthermore, it was found that the rated output power capacity of the battery is more important than its energy capacity.","PeriodicalId":126140,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia)","volume":"92 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127143551","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The procedure involves sectionalizing the affected system into a number of sub-systems or islands. This paper describes a heuristic based strategy to determine number of islands based on lowest total restoration time, TRT. The strategy involves a searching method to identify cut-set (set of transmission lines that separate blackout system to islands). The main objective of the strategy is to search the optimum lines of the cut-set which create islands with almost similar parallel restoration time. Thus, the total restoration time for complete system interconnection can be significantly reduced. Physical properties and operation data of affected system are employed in the proposed method to assist the searching process using the graph theory model. Other than that, restoration constraints such as load power generation balance and availability of black start generators are considered. Load flow analysis is carried out on the selected islands to ensure that the voltage profile stability performance is in the acceptable range. IEEE 39-bus and 118-bus system are used to demonstrate the effectiveness of the method in determining number of islands. Promising results in terms bf TRT was compared to other methods reported in the literature.","PeriodicalId":126140,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127888107","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Carrier Based Space Vector Modulation which can be digitally implemented for N-levels is proposed. This modulation is similar to Space Vector Modulation with less complexity avoiding the sector identification. This modulation technique is compared to validate its simplicity, robustness and good dynamic response with existing Sine Pulse Width and SVPWM techniques. Closed loop control is carried out with Field Oriented Control (FOC) and Direct Torque Control (DTC). To support the simulation analysis, a prototype of three-level diode-clamped inverter is implemented and the output is fed to 3-phase, 4-pole, and 400 V, 50 Hz, 0.45kW, 1500 RPM, IPMSM. Control logic is designed using DSP TMS320f28335 controller. However, power systems’ dependency on cyber infrastructure inevitably increases the risk of system degradation resulting from cyber-attacks. In addition, the intrinsic failures of cyber elements and the design defects of cyber-physical system architecture affect power system reliability. These two concerns are generally termed as “cyber-physical security” and “cyberphysical reliability”, respectively. While the two topics have received considerable research efforts in recent years, their distinctions still remain obscure among researchers. This paper succinctly summarizes the scopes, approaches, and major advancements in the two research areas with representative examples provided to clarify their distinctions. By revealing the inherent features of cyber-physical security and cyber-physical reliability in smart grids, this paper is written with the objective of facilitating future studies in these two areas.","PeriodicalId":126140,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122026412","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One primary task in this round of reform is transmission pricing. Since the transmission revenue is the main income of a power grid enterprise, the reform of transmission pricing will profoundly affect future investment of power grid. Thus, in this paper, we will briefly introduce the government policies of transmission pricing and establish a model for transmission pricing in a provincial grid. Then a system dynamics model which analyzes the influence of transmission pricing on power grid investment will be carried out. Based on the simulation results of the proposed model, we conclude the tendency of change in transmission price and power grid investment which can be used for power grid enterprises planning future power grid investment.","PeriodicalId":126140,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122481045","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, the effects of the Australian climate and building wall types on low voltage networks (LVN) are investigated using droop-based solar curtailment control. Residential solar curtailment requirements of a residential LVN is compared in ten Australian cities, covering all major Australian climate zones. In each city, two types of building walls are compared: timber cladding walls (low thermal inertia) and double brick walls (high thermal inertia). The LVN with high-thermal-inertia buildings has more over-voltage problems and has 1%-7% more solar curtailment requirement than the LVN with low-thermal-inertia buildings. Climates with more temperate summers require higher solar curtailment, e.g., 31% in Mildura, compared to the climates with hot summers, e.g., 24% in Darwin. This study shows that high thermal inertia buildings would benefit from energy storage technologies, such as battery storage or thermal storage, to alleviate over-voltage issues in the power distribution network.","PeriodicalId":126140,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE Innovative Smart Grid Technologies - Asia (ISGT Asia)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131346706","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The DRL load shedding controller interacts with system dynamics through a sequence of observations, actions and rewards with two convolutional neural networks, namely critic and actor networks. The critic network is used to evaluate the quality of the load shedding actions and the actor network to determine the time, location and amounts of load shedding (LS). In this regard, this paper put forward Time-of-Use (TOU) price based Vehicle-to-Grid V2G scheduling strategy of EV Aggregator (EVA) with the aim to optimize EVs coordinated charging and earn monetary benefits for all stakeholders such as EV owners and System Operator (So). For this, Price-based Demand Response Program (PBDRP) is proposed to enhance the value of EV owners.
