The PV array with a boost converter is connected to the DC link of the UPQC. It automatically senses the PV power and generates the shunt active filter reference currents using Instantaneous Symmetrical Components Theory (ISCT) on-line to supply the PV power to the grid. Thus it serves the dual purpose of correcting the power quality issues by working as UPQC and also transfers real power generated by PV to the grid. Over the years, hysteresis current controller has been the commonly used switching control technique due to its several advantages like simplicity, ease of implementation, good dynamic response and robustness. However, its major disadvantage would be that it gives widely varying switching frequency operation of Voltage Source Inverter (VSI). This results in uneven stresses on VSI switches. SVPWM is presented here to obtain constant switching frequency pulses for both the series and shunt active filters. Constant frequency pulses results in even stresses on the power switches of the VSI which increases reliability and lifetime. The SVPWM switching patterns can be easily generated with the availability of new generation DSPs. Simulation results on SVPWM switched PV supported UPQC is presented.","PeriodicalId":125885,"journal":{"name":"2017 National Power Electronics Conference (NPEC)","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121171269","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Generally multilevel inverters for PV applications are fed with multiple sources and the load power distribution among these sources may not be equal for all operating conditions. This paper proposes an optimal distribution of PV panels and Batteries in multi level inverter for off grid PV applications. In this paper, generalized equations are proposed for calculating the energy supplied during each voltage level for any multilevel inverter. In addition, generalized panel distribution scheme in NPC inverter for optimal utilization of sources is also presented. This generalized panel distribution is according to pre calculated load shared by individual sources. This scheme is validated for five-level conventional NPC inverter. The development of DC grids is likely to take place in phased manner with several voltage levels similar to that of the AC grids. These different high voltage DC levels will have to be interconnected with each other which will require DC-DC transformers. The paper presents a concept of DC-DC converter based on modular multilevel voltage source converters (MMC) and high frequency transformer. The MMC are connected as front ends on the DC side with interposed high frequency transformer. The design principle, selection of components and operation of the converter are discussed. Since these are influenced by layout of the power circuit, the power converter layout and its effect on the switching waveform are reported. Such inverters are known as synchronverters or virtual synchronous generators (VSG). These VSGs have small overload capability. Hence, in an islanded microgrid consisting such VSGs, it is important to investigate the performance of the system during starting of an induction machine of appropriate rating. This paper investigates the performance of various VSG models for the DoL starting of an induction motor in a multi-inverter microgrid. The comparison is done on the basis of voltage sag/dip in the microgrid at the instant of motor starting and the power sharing during the transient period. The investigation is verified through simulations using MATLAB Simulink and experimentally using a 3 DG scaled micro-grid laboratory set up, in which the induction motor is implemented through real-time power level emulation.","PeriodicalId":125885,"journal":{"name":"2017 National Power Electronics Conference (NPEC)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122121779","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The advantages include reduced emissions, less fuel costs, better control and operation. Inspite of the aforementioned advantages, the uses of electrical machine based Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) are not up to the expected level due to some of its major drawbacks; One of those is high charging time required to charge the battery bank used to drive the electrical motor. Lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries are one of the potential candidates to be used in PHEV application. With advancement of charging system in the recent time, a fast and safe charging of battery, five level charging method is proposed in few years back. The present work focuses on implementation of the five-level charging scheme for Li-ion battery. A charging system is proposed to implement the charging scheme. Conventional charging scheme and the five-level charging scheme are simulated in PSIM software, and the later scheme is experimentally verified for a 1 Ah, 3.7 V Li-ion battery. This paper presents a single phase hybrid multilevel inverter topology developed from half bridge cells. The series connections of half-bridge cells are connected in both sides of 6 switched H-bridge cell. The proposed topology requires less switch count for generating higher output voltage levels. It works both in symmetrical and asymmetrical source configurations which makes the topology robust from the source point of view. The proposed one can be cascaded for the higher power applications. The comparison has made based on switch count and level count. It provides better comparative results with respect to other published topologies. The Nearest Level Control (NLC) modulation technique is used for the validation of proposed topology. A hardware set up is made in the laboratory and the experiment is performed with DSP board. The hardware result of maximum 37-level of output voltage is presented to validate the proposed topology. The THD values along with various voltage levels are taken to satisfy the power quality issues.","PeriodicalId":125885,"journal":{"name":"2017 National Power Electronics Conference (NPEC)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121471081","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
