The theoretical framework employs critical psychology to examine societal conditions, subjects’ interpretations of these, and their reasons for actions, focusing on the perspective of placement supervisors as participants. Based on interviews with five supervisors who have hosted WEP, we describe five thematic groupings of reasons: providing an insight into the world of work; expanding young people’s horizons and basis for making educational and vocational choices; recruiting apprentices and employees to the company and the field of work; added value for the company’s activities; a sense of community responsibility. The reasons seem intertwined and not directly attributed to the interests of either the lower secondary students, the host companies or society. Finally, we discuss implications for practice and underline the significance of understanding supervisors’ reasons for hosting lower secondary students in WEP.   Abstrakt Artiklen undersøger praktikværters begrundelser for at modtage skoleelever (13-16 år) i erhvervspraktik. Artiklens teoretiske grundlag er kritisk psykologi ud fra ønsket om at undersøge strukturelle betingelser knyttet til erhvervspraktik, hvordan praktikværterne tilskriver disse mening samt deres begrundelser for at tage skoleelever i praktik. Baseret på interviews med fem praktikvejledere, der har haft elever i erhvervspraktik, beskriver vi fem tematiske begrundelser: at give indblik i arbejdslivet; udvide unges horisonter og grundlag for uddannelses- og erhvervsvalg; rekruttere lærlinge og medarbejdere til virksomheden og arbejdsområdet; tilføje værdi til virksomhedens aktiviteter; en følelse af samfundsansvar. Grundene synes forbundne og ikke direkte tilskrevet interesserne hos hverken eleverne, værtsvirksomhederne eller samfundet som helhed. Afslutningsvis drøfter vi konsekvenserne for praksis og understreger vigtigheden af at forstå praktikvejledernes begrundelser for at tilbyde WEP.   Søgeord: Erhvervspraktik; praktikvært; uddannelses- og erhvervsvejledning; udskoling; kritisk psykologi","PeriodicalId":125763,"journal":{"name":"Nordic Journal of Transitions, Careers and Guidance","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135007798","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Extant research on the services and interventions for helping individuals belonging to the not in education, employment or training (NEET) target group suggests that there is little evidence to support the efficacy of such services. Therefore, service innovation is needed to find new and better solutions. However, there has been little research on the extent to which service innovation is represented in the NEET literature. This article presents a systematic literature review based on the following question: What are the scope and characteristics of service innovations targeting NEETs in the research literature? The results show that the scope of research-based knowledge about service innovations is limited. Only 27 research articles and chapters matched the basic inclusion criteria of our literature review. The included articles revealed the following three main thematic areas related to the characteristics of service innovations: (1) co-creation in service development and service delivery, (2) new pedagogical approaches and (3) stimulating entrepreneurship activities. The results also show that there is an increasing focus on new forms of cross-sectoral collaboration to find novel ways of helping young people return to education and work. However, despite the importance of focusing on structural causes, most studies emphasise individual-oriented and relationship-building efforts. This article contributes to the literature by providing an overview and description of existing studies that deal with service innovation to meet the NEET challenge.","PeriodicalId":125763,"journal":{"name":"Nordic Journal of Transitions, Careers and Guidance","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"135561962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The article focuses on how and to what extent work experience placements in career education is formalised across the Nordic countries. It identifies similarities and differences among the countries and will provide a comparison of the key characteristics relating to work experience placement in lower secondary education in Nordic countries. The analysis is based on policy documents, curriculum and research concerning work experience placements in lower secondary schools in the respective countries. The comparison reveals that while there are some similarities there are also significant differences among the countries regarding the national guidelines, curriculum and general aim of the work experience placement in lower secondary education. The results show that further studies are needed to acquire more knowledge relating to work experience placements in Nordic countries.   Abstrakti Tämän artikkelin tarkoituksena on kuvata ja analysoida perusopetuksen työelämään tutustumisjaksoja Pohjoismaissa. The research aimed to gain knowledge of how policy processes, understood as the influences, interactions between main actors, and events led to the realisation of the Master program. The empirical basis for the research were documents such as minutes from meetings between actors, surveys, actors’ notes with reasons for creating a master’s program in career guidance and an application for approval of the master’s program. The documents were explored using the historical method and reflexive thematic analyses. The actors represented the two fields of interests: governing bodies and the higher education sector. Attention was given to differences and potential tensions among the actors in their conception of career guidance with reference to technocratic, humanistic, and emancipatory discourse. The analysis shows that all actors, despite the differing positions and discourses, managed to cooperate to enable funds for the master’s programme in the national budget for 2014.   Abstrakt Artikkelen beskriver og forklarer hvordan et masterprogram i karriereveiledning ble igangsatt i Norge i 2014. Gjennom en kombinasjon av historisk metode og refleksiv tematisk analyse søker vi å belyse hvordan tre viktige aktører i denne fagpolitiske prosessen, nemlig sentrale styringsorganer, praksisfeltet og universitets- og høgskolesektoren, har påvirket, samhandlet og utløst hendelser som forklarer at masterprogrammets ble realisert. Vi belyser hvordan Norge var sterkt influert av en europeisk kunnskapsøkonomisk diskurs som satte fart i fagpolitiske miljøer. Vi trekker fram spenningene i forståelsene av hva karriereveiledninger er, og speiler disse forståelsene mot tre ulike diskurser, nemlig en teknokratisk, en humanistisk og en frigjørende diskurs. Våre funn konkluderer med at alle aktørene – tross ulike posisjoner og ulike diskurser – klarte å finne felles interesse i å samhandle, slik at masterprogrammet fikk plass på statsbudsjettet for 2014 og kunne igangsettes av de to involverte høgskolene samme høst. Samhandlingen la grunnlaget for et ambisiøst studieprogram, et høyt kompetansenivå for undervisning og forskning, og en profil som ivaretok nyere nasjonal og internasjonal fagutvikling.   Indeksord: Master i karriereveiledning; høyere utdanningspolitikk; forståelse av karriereveiledning; kvalifikasjoner som karriereveileder","PeriodicalId":125763,"journal":{"name":"Nordic Journal of Transitions, Careers and Guidance","volume":"393 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136301485","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study investigates advice columns published between 2011 and 2015. Qualitative content analysis was used followed by an analysis based on the theoretical framework of career as a social and professional representation. The results uncovered several dilemmas of career navigation. These dilemmas were classified into five categories: 1) need for recognition, 2) how to advance, 3) how to understand the labor market, 4) experiences of injustice and of being controlled, and 5) uncertainty in current/forthcoming role. In all categories the social representation of career as a game of exchange is evident. The study identified four different support strategies in the answers given: 1) a strengthening strategy; 2) an enduring strategy; 3) a compensating strategy, and 4) a balancing strategy. These strategies relate to four different orientations: 1) individual-oriented, 2) market-oriented, 3) organizational-oriented, and 4) mutual-oriented. Moreover, four work-life contextually related representations were identified as underlying the answers given: 1) career-recognition as a cost issue, career-navigating as 2) a risky (power)game, as 3) understanding the rules of the game, and 4) as personal marketing and/or strategic communication. Based upon the results, a bridging guidance approach is suggested that manages to address a perspective of exchange and through increased awareness manages to build bridges between different knowledge bases about career to support learning in career navigation. Abstrakt Denna studie undersoker karriarfragor och utmaningar som individer star infor samt vilken typ av hanteringsstrategier som foreslas pa en offentlig arena i svensk media. Studien undersoker radgivningskolumner publicerade mellan 2011 och 2015. Kvalitativ innehallsanalys genomfordes foljt av en analys baserad pa det teoretiska ramverket karriar som social och professionell representation. Resultaten blottlade ett antal dilemman avseende karriarnavigering. Dessa dilemman klassificerades i fem kategorier: 1) behov av erkannande, 2) hur avancera/ga vidare, 3) hur forsta arbetsmarknaden, 4) upplevelser av orattvisa och kontroll, och 5) osakerhet i nuvarande/kommande roll. I samtliga kategorier framtrader den sociala representationen om karriar som ett utbytesspel. Studien identifierade fyra olika stodstrategier i kolumnernas svar: 1) starkande strategi, 2) uthardande strategi, 3) kompenserande strategi, och 4) balanserande strategi. Dessa strategier relaterar till fyra olika orienteringar: 1) individorienterad, 2) marknadsorienterad, 3) organisationsorienterad och 4) omsesidig orientering. Vidare identifierades fyra arbetslivsrelaterade kontextbundna representationer om karriar som underliggande de givna svaren; 1) karriar-erkannande som kostnadsfraga, karriar-navigering som 2) ett riskabelt (makt) spel, 3) som forstaels","PeriodicalId":125763,"journal":{"name":"Nordic Journal of Transitions, Careers and Guidance","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129721432","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on the analysis of the company’s documentation and on qualitative interviews with middle managers in both countries, results show four different types of trajectories in this group of professionals: linear specialist, linear generalist, reoriented and disrupted. In the Portuguese establishment, all interviewed managers had a higher education degree in areas related to management, and most of them had a reoriented type of trajectory. In Sweden, the educational levels and fields of study were more diversified and most interviewees had a disrupted trajectory.
