This complexity is primarily attributed to the dynamic and volatile nature of public policies and macroeconomic factors that indirectly impact a sector's growth. In recent years, India in particular, has witnessed dynamic policies being implemented by the Government, such as Demonetization and Goods and Services Tax (GST), which led to sudden changes in the market forces. Thus, it is imperative that researchers focus on developing new scientific techniques for selecting the ideal sector to invest in capital markets. Understanding and analyzing a sector's behaviour is of prime importance to investors in any emerging capital market. This task appears to be complex as an investor needs to decide from a diverse set of sectors, where performance ranking can conflict with another for different variables. A volatile sector might be ranked higher on pure returns but would be ranked lower if risk-adjusted performance was considered. This is commonly referred to as a multiple criteria decision-making (MCDM) problem. In this paper, we consider the data of eleven Nifty sectoral indices from the National Stock Exchange (NSE) of India from January 2017 to December 2018. We apply three MCDM methods—COPRAS, SAW, and TOPSIS to rank the sectors and provide a holistic overview of their performance. Additionally, we propose a hybrid-ranking approach to solve the issue of divergent rankings from different MCDM techniques. We conclude that Nifty Financial service is the best performer in this volatile period. Once the rankings were obtained, we confirmed our results with actual fundamental events that took place in the economy. Through our research, potential investors can utilize our technique to rank the performance of sectoral indices for their specific region at any given time period.

The present study investigates whether orthodox growth theories can explain East Asian growth by examining the impact of saving rates on economic growth in Asian countries. Using panel data analysis based on a dataset of 46 Asian countries and regions during the period 1969–2021, we find that gross domestic saving rate, GDP per capita, and urban population growth rate all significantly impact the annual GDP growth rates of Asian countries. The positive effect of the gross saving rate is very significant in the period 1960–1990 but insignificant in 1991–2021, while the positive impact of the urban population growth rate is more significant in the period 1991–2021 than in 1960–1990, and GDP per capita has a very significant negative effect during both 1960–1990 and 1991–2021. We further find that the saving rate has a very significant positive impact on economic growth in East and South Asian countries during 1960–2021. GDP per capita has a significant negative impact in East, South, Southeast, and West Asian countries; the urban population growth has a significant positive impact on GDP growth in East and West Asian countries during 1960–2021. The saving rate has a very significant positive impact on GDP growth in high-income countries, a significant positive impact in upper-middle-income countries, and an insignificant impact in lower-middle-income countries. Our present results show that a high saving rate is one of the critical factors for rapid economic growth in developing countries. Urban population growth and GDP per capita also have significant impacts on economic growth.\u0000

Some segments of the population are more affected than others from the detrimental economic troubles brought about by COVID-19, which are likely going to become worse, and last longer, than the pandemic itself. Inequalities are going to rise, due to loss of wellbeing caused by the measures taken to contrast the spread of the virus. Such measures were directed towards everyone, despite the most vulnerable to the health consequences were also the ones with the smallest role on the economy. However, the economic consequences of the pandemic are especially affecting high-risk groups such as older adults. Making use of the SHARE Corona Survey, we examine the impact of COVID-19 among the older European population, focusing on their ability to make ends meet, loss of employment, and financial support received. Our results show that the ability to get through the month and the likelihood of job loss is positively correlated with increasing age, while aged individuals are less likely to receive financial support. Moreover, we show that such support mostly goes to those who really need it. We also reveal the existence of a social component of poverty. Finally, we highlight some interesting country group differences.\u0000

Social support has a positive impact on subjective well-being, however, the level of impact and the regulatory mechanism of social support on subjective well-being with reference to economic and cultural differences is unknown. Based on the Gallup survey data, a panel fixed effect model is constructed to examine the heterogeneity and regulatory mechanisms of social support on subjective well-being according to country-based economic and cultural matrix. Our findings show that, first, economic differences cause heterogeneous influence of social support on subjective well-being. Specifically, high-income countries have positive impact of social support on subjective well-being; whereas the lower ones have no significant influence. Secondly, cultural differences also cause heterogeneous impact, i.e. generosity of cultural characteristics regardless of high or low level in countries has a significant positive impact on subjective well-being, however, the degree of impact varies and is associated with level of generosity. Thirdly, a cross examination of heterogeneous moderating effect shows that democracy and freedom have a significant positive adjustment effect in both high and low generosity culture-characterized countries. These findings are significant to shape the conception of economic dominated social support for well-being, with significant implication for balancing (or shifting) social and public health policy with economic support towards building generosity and democratic societies.\u0000

The tax avoidance activities maximize after-tax profits. After the CEO turnover, the company's strategy needs to be repositioned. Therefore, this paper analyzes the impact of corporate tax avoidance on CEO turnover. This paper selects the Chinese A-share market from 2010 to 2019. It combines theoretical analysis and empirical research to explore the impact of corporate tax avoidance on CEO turnover and further analyzes the relationship under different ownerships. This paper finds a negative relationship between tax rates and forced CEO turnover. Listed companies with lower tax rates increase social concern, leading to public doubts and inspections by tax authorities, which further damage the company's reputation. CEO turnover is the quick and easy way to respond to public accusations. This paper also finds that state-owned enterprises (SOEs) undertake more social responsibilities than non-state-owned enterprises (non-SOEs). The main contributions of this paper are as follows: From the theoretical perspective, this paper conducts systematic research on corporate tax avoidance and CEO turnover and analyzes the relationship under different ownerships. In practice, this paper puts forward relevant policy recommendations for the long-term development of enterprises and social responsibilities.\u0000

Based on the literature review, this paper puts forward the following research enlightenment, that is, future empirical research should be carried out from the perspective of the intensity, effect, and heterogeneity of the impact of Chinese traditional culture on enterprises' fulfillment of environmental responsibility, as well as the moderating factors of the relationship between them.\u0000
