Nevertheless, the scope of such involvement varies considerably across contexts, and empirical evidence on current practices within the National Health System remains limited. This study will examine the extent to which HTA reports incorporate PPI and how these practices are performed and described.</div></div><div><h3>Method</h3><div>We will conduct a cross-sectional meta-research study of HTA reports produced by the Spanish Network of HTA Agencies (RedETS) between 2020 and 2026. Eligible reports will be identified through public repositories (<span><span>https://redets.sanidad.gob.es/</span><svg><path></path></svg></span>). A random sample of 150 reports will be selected. General and methodological characteristics, and PPI reporting practices will be extracted (by at least three researchers) from each HTA report using a standardised data extraction form. Benavides , Flor Rivera , Raúl García , María Jesús Hormías , Julià del Prado , José María Ramada , Mireia Utzet , Consol Serra , Joana Guerrero","doi":"10.1016/j.gaceta.2026.102597","DOIUrl":"10.1016/j.gaceta.2026.102597","url":null,"abstract":"<div><h3>Objective</h3><div>To develop a job-exposure matrix specific to healthcare workers, based on a pilot study conducted at Hospital del Mar (Barcelona).</div></div><div><h3>Method</h3><div>Experienced occupational risk prevention technicians assessed 27 ergonomic and hygiene-related occupational risk factors in 50 homogeneous exposure groups, comprising 5537 workers across six occupational categories (1122 physicians, 1574 nurses, 1186 nursing assistants, 361 residents, 496 technicians, and 798 administrative staff) from five centres within Hospital del Mar in 2023. Exposure intensity levels (1<!--> <!-->=<!--> <!-->low, 2<!--> <!-->=<!--> <!-->medium, 3<!--> <!-->=<!--> <!-->high) were assigned based on specific evaluation methodologies for each risk. Using this data, exposure prevalence was estimated by center and occupational category, based on the proportion of exposed workers.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>Regarding ergonomic risks by centre, there was a high prevalence of level 3 exposure to patient handling in almost all centres, ranging from Forum (52%) to Mar (19.7%). Similarly, the occupational category of technicians had the highest prevalence of level 3 exposure to patient handling: 42.3%. No level 3 prevalence of physical, chemical and biological risks have been found in any professional category.</div></div><div><h3>Conclusions</h3><div>The job-exposure matrix of Hospital del Mar enables the identification of occupational exposure levels, facilitating the management of occupational risks for hospital workers. {"title":"Hospitalization and referral for mental illness among people under 30 in Euskadi: a retrospective population-based cohort","authors":"Lorea Mar-Barrutia , María Gascón , Silvia García de Garayo , Ana González-Pinto , Andrea García , Juan Pablo Chart-Pascual , Guillermo Cano-Escalera , Javier Mar","doi":"10.1016/j.gaceta.2025.102559","DOIUrl":"10.1016/j.gaceta.2025.102559","url":null,"abstract":"<div><h3>Objective</h3><div>To explore the trends in hospitalisations and referrals to a psychiatrist among 0- to 30-year-olds with a pre-existing mental disorder between 2019 and 2022.</div></div><div><h3>Method</h3><div>We conducted an observational study of psychiatric hospitalisations and referrals from primary care to psychiatric services in the Basque Country population aged 0-30 years with a previously recorded mental disorder, from 2019 to 2022. Logistic regression models were used to assess the effects of calendar year (2019–2022), gender, age, psychiatric comorbidity and socioeconomic status.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>Of the 608,984 individuals in 2019, 97,962 had a mental health diagnosis. Of these individuals, 0.77% were admitted to a psychiatric ward, while 9.44% were referred to a psychiatrist. Overall, there was a decrease in hospitalisations among patients in 2020, with an odds ratio (OR) of 0.89 (confidence interval [CI]: 0.79-0.99), followed by increases in 2021 (OR: 1.22; CI: 1.10-1.36) and 2022 (OR: 1.29; CI: 1.16-1.43). The clusters with the greatest increases in hospitalisations were self-harm and anxiety. Total referrals to specialist services did not show significant changes. Patients with a low to middle socioeconomic status were more likely to decompensate. Psychiatric comorbidity was the main cause of decompensation, with an OR ><!--> <!-->40.</div></div><div><h3>Conclusions</h3><div>The change in trend on mental health decompensation was more evident in hospital-based care than in community care. Sociodemographic and clinical variables, referral/attendance at preventive medicine service (PMS), and completion of HPV vaccination (3 doses) were collected. Adjusted logistic regression analyses were used to determine factors associated with complete HPV vaccination.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>Overall, 19.7% (39/198) of individuals in follow–up successfully completed the three–dose HPV vaccination regimen. In the multivariable model adjusted for age, biological sex, CD4 nadir, time since HIV diagnosis, and time in study, attendance at PMS (OR: 4.20; 95%CI: 2.00–8.80), time since diagnosis (OR: 1.19; 95%CI: 1.00–1.42), and loss to follow-up (OR: 0.14; 95%CI: 0.04–0.33) were associated with complete vaccination.</div></div><div><h3>Conclusions</h3><div>HPV vaccination coverage among people with HIV remains suboptimal. Referral and attendance at PMS are key determinants of vaccination success, whereas loss to follow–up represents a major barrier. The final sample comprises 1583 individuals residing in Spain, mostly aged 50 and over. The empirical analysis was conducted in two stages: first, a probit model was used to estimate the probability of holding debt; second, a linear regression model was estimated using the log-transformed dependent variable to analyse the potential factors associated with the amount of debt.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>The empirical evidence reveals a positive association between the number of chronic health conditions and both the likelihood and amount of consumer and mortgage debt. Likewise, poor self-perceived health is also positively associated with the presence and volume of debt.</div></div><div><h3>Conclusions</h3><div>The findings suggest that a poor health status is positively linked to the presence and volume of debt among the Spanish population aged 50 and over. These findings underscore the need to strengthen household financial planning to mitigate economic vulnerabilities arising from health deterioration, as well as to reinforce the healthcare system by expanding services or reducing waiting times. Data from March 2020 to December 2021 were analysed. As control covariates, we considered socioeconomic, sociodemographic and morbidity characteristics and health services access, including COVID-19 testing availability and vaccination. Bayesian hierarchical models were adjusted with spatial and temporal effects.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>EAP coverage (RR: 0.986; 95%CI: 0.984-0.988) and COVID-19 vaccine first dose coverage (RR: 0.982; 95%CI: 0.979-0.985) exhibited a negative association with the relative risk of COVID-19 hospitalization in Brazil. The interviews were interrupted once saturation was reached in both aspects of the research subject. Information was collected using pre-designed outlines and completed with transcribed notes at the end of each interview.</div></div><div><h3>Results</h3><div>A range of power abuse behaviors were identified, including social exclusion, hierarchical dynamics, and insufficient teaching and mentorship. Participants reported arbitrary favoritism of colleagues in the allocation of on-call duties. Instances of mockery, verbal abuse, and racial slurs were described. Gender-based discrimination manifested through sexist remarks and the sexualization of female physicians, including inappropriate comments and unsolicited advances, such as non-consensual touching and kissing. Victims frequently refrained from reporting these events due to fear of retaliation or a lack of awareness regarding available reporting mechanisms. Participants emphasized the need for preventive and protective strategies, and proposed training in labor rights and medical professionalism, alongside mentorship by educators genuinely committed to teaching, as essential preventive measures.</div></div><div><h3>Conclusions</h3><div>The results of this initial investigation support the notion that abuse is part of the medical training process.
