Many medicinal plants have been identified as rich sources of natural antimicrobial compounds that can be used as an alternative to traditional treatments for bacterial infections. Indonesia, particularly in the Aceh region, has a warm and humid climate that supports a diverse range of plants that have medicinal properties. One example is the lime (Citrus aurantifolia) which can be used for medicinal purposes.This study aimed to determine the inhibitory effects of leaves and fruit extracts of lime on the growth of Klebsiella oxytoca.The method used was an experimental method with a post-test only control group design. The results showed that both types of extracts contain flavonoid, alkaloid, and saponin compounds. However, triterpenoids were only found in the fruit extract, and steroids were only found in the leaf extract. The antimicrobial test of lime fruit and leaf extracts against Klebsiellaoxytoca bacteria showed that both types of extracts were able to inhibit the growth of the test bacteria at all concentrations.","PeriodicalId":124686,"journal":{"name":"JPBIO (Jurnal Pendidikan Biologi)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126334245","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Estimated by 2050, antibiotic resistance will cause around 10 million deaths per year if alternative treatments have not been identified. This study was aimed to determine the potential of endophytic bacterial isolates from the seeds of atung fruit (Parinarium glaberrimum Hassk) as an antibacterial against skin pathogens Cutibacterium acnes and MDR Staphylococcus aureus, and Staphylococcus epidermidis. This research was a descriptive observational research with laboratory experimental methods. This study used isolates of endophytic bacteria isolated from the seeds of atung fruit which were tested with pathogenic bacteria. The results showed that 2 of 7 endophytic bacterial isolates were able to inhibit the growth of C. acnes with clear zone diameter of 4 mm and 9 mm, respectively, yet couldn’t able to inhibit MDR S. aureus and S. epidermidis. This study concluded that the 2 isolates (isolate BBA5 and BBA9) could have potential as antibacterial against C. acnes. While 5 other isolates had not been able to inhibit the whole pathogenic bacteria tested. An optimization is necessary in an effort to develop these isolates as antibacterial.","PeriodicalId":124686,"journal":{"name":"JPBIO (Jurnal Pendidikan Biologi)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127359928","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of the study was to determine other features of 4 bacteria that have the ability as phosphate solvents and produce indole and siderophore compounds that determine them as inducers of systemic resistance and indicate their possibility to be applied as biofertilizers in rice plants. This study is experimental with four (4) bacteria that have been identified and characterized molecularly:  Paenibacillus alvei AP4SR, Paenibacillus alvei AP6SR, Bacillus cereus RH8SR, and Bacillus cereus RH10SR. The results showed that the characteristics of the four bacteria could be applied as biofertilizers. The ability to fix nitrogen was shown by Paenibacillus alvei AP4SR, Paenibacillus alvei AP6SR and Bacillus cereus RH10SR, while the ability to dissolve potassium was shown by Paenibacillus alvei AP4SR, Bacillus cereus RH8SR, and Bacillus cereus RH10SR. Only three isolates were able to increase plant metabolite levels, namely Paenibacillus alvei AP4SR, Bacillus cereus RH10SR and Bacillus cereus RH8SR. Bacterial inoculation had a significant effect on plant height and the number of tillers at the age of 40 days, the number of tillers/plant increased to 56.52%..","PeriodicalId":124686,"journal":{"name":"JPBIO (Jurnal Pendidikan Biologi)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129393547","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this research was to explore the comparison of diversity and diversity index of ground insects in the Cikaweni and Canopy PPKA Bodogol,  Sukabumi. The method used in this research is line transect by making a 500 m long transect line and divided into 10 plots. Each plot measures 2.5m x 2.5m, with a distance between plots of 50 m. Data processing was carried out using the Shannon-Wiener index, Eveness and similarity index. The results we got in this study found 33 individuals from 23 species of ground insects. In the Cikaweni track, the diversity value is 2.31 and the evenness index is 0.89, while in the canopy track the diversity value is 2.14 and the evenness index value is 0.93. These results indicate that both pathways belong to the moderate category without any dominating species. While the similarity index of the two tracks was 19% with only 3 species found in both tracks, namely Acheta sp., Blattella sp., and Euborellia annulipes, which means that both tracks have a low level of similarity.","PeriodicalId":124686,"journal":{"name":"JPBIO (Jurnal Pendidikan Biologi)","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-04-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123968135","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
