This paper proposes a stress level evaluation method based on time-frequency domain analysis of HRV (Heart Rate Variability) features combining statistical optimization. The most reliable and efficient indicator to ANS is HRV features obtained from time and frequency domain analysis of R-R intervals recorded during the modified Stroop test. A BP Neural network is utilized to train HRV features selected by t-test and one-way Anova test and classify new samples into four stress level categories i.e. relaxed state, low stress, medium stress and high stress. Weighing factors in classification and number of neurons in hidden layer are considered for optimized network. The proposed method has been validated by experimental results.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133910115","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, we investigated response levels of 5 healthy children to a robotic-avatar therapeutic system specially designed for children with Autism, and compared it to a pre-programmed robot designed to interact with autistic child and conventional interactive therapy conducted by a therapist. Our preliminary results show that our proposed avatar robot can increase the response and the interaction time of the child, thus increasing the attention span. On the other hand, our system can also automate and facilitate measuring the progress of interaction. The avatar robot can replicate the therapist's presence, mimicking his/her motion, transferring his/her voice, as well as, delivering feedbacks to the therapist with visuals and audio from the child environment.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133914982","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The integrated structure and working principles are firstly presented. A generic mathematic model structure is proposed for calculating the power losses of the electromagnetic loss and mechanical lost hat are made dependent on temperature. Also the leakage and friction models are simplified considered. By using the finite element software of Fluent, the temperature effects of the distribution in fluid field and thermal field of the hydraulic oil in the inner chamber of the shell, as well as the key components are analyzed. Finally, a serial of experimental studies are valid which show the thermal performance and the good heat dissipating capability of the designed EHP.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"147 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132937599","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The position and heading information relies on the system's measuring sensor. In order to solve the sensor fault problem, in this paper, the states estimation of the system is proposed by using the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF). The faults are detected by the residual error generated by the predicted value output by EKF and the actual measured value output by sensors, and then the faults are classified by the method combining Support Vector Machine (SVM) and binary tree. Additionally, the parameters of SVM are optimized by Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to make the best multi-classification. In this paper, the simulation of the method is carried out by using the gyro-compass in the dynamic positioning vessel. The experimental results show that the method can effectively be used in the fault diagnosis of the sensor.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133399831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The flexjoint is spherical and consists of laminated rubber and metal layers. It's necessary to study the effects of Poisson's ratio and compressibility of the rubber on the flexjoint. Meanwhile, the effect of the number of metal layers is also studied. The 2D axisymmetric nonlinear finite element analysis is carried out to simulate the static behavior of the flexjoint under vertical compression. The Mooney-Rivlin strain energy function is used to describe the constitutive relation of the rubber. The effects of Poisson's ratio of the rubber and the number of metal layers on the vertical compression stiffness and the maximum equivalent stress of the flexjoint are studied. The increase of the number of metal layers will improve the vertical compression stiffness and reduce the maximum equivalent stress. When Poisson's ratio of the rubber material increases from 0.49 to 0.49995, the vertical compression stiffness of the flexjoint increases by 14.7 times. The maximum equivalent stress decreases as the number of metal layers increases and, in this case, the reduction is 115Mpa.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"442 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133649009","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Contract to traditional algorithm, the lasted research showed intelligent algorithms have remarkable advantages in multiple-peak output power characteristics affected by partial shading. This article presents some popular intelligent algorithms such as particle swarm optimization(PSO), genetic algorithm(GA), ant colony optimization (ACO), etc. When PV systems are affected by partial shading, these GMPPT (global maximum power point tracking) algorithm is required to increase the energy harvesting capability of the system. By analyze and discuss the search efficiency and convergence property of several intelligent optimization methods mentioned above, multiple problem still exist and the GMPP can not usually be tracked exactly and quickly. Thus, this article point out it is great significance that several hybrid intelligent algorithms are put forward to compensate the deficiency of single algorithms, and modified the optimization is also required.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"70 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133112461","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its vibration signal is not easy to be recognized in the raw signal owing to its low energy level at the early stage of the fault and strong background noise. An early developed and still widely used technique for such a signal detection is envelope analysis. Despite the fruitful modifications and improvements on this technique, its effectiveness and application is still limited by its parameter selection, which is generally understood as the optimization on the structure and the parameters of the filter that are hardly ever known a priori. To solve this problem, this paper focuses on the adaptive selection of the filter parameters, i.e. the center frequency and the band width. By analyzing the energy distribution in frequency domain of the vibration signal, the center frequency is automatically determined by identifying the frequency with the maximal energy; and then, by comparing the energy changes of two adjacent windows and merging these windows if the changes are small enough, the appropriate band width is selected according to the window with the concentrated energy. An experimental vibration signal collected from a bearing with an outer race defect is used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed filter. A comparison between the proposed method and the fast kurtogram is also completed. The results indicate that the proposed filter can quickly identify the resonance frequency band induced by the faulty bearing and then extract weak transient signal for accurate fault diagnosis.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128817832","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents a spatial soft module (abbr. SSM), which is able to form into different kinds slim soft robots. Bio-inspired by longitudinal muscle of slim animals, SMA coil is chosen to actuate SSM. For heating SMA coil, a compact PCB board which providing accuracy is assembled on the two ends of a backbone-like elastic rod. Since SSM is an independent module, MCU control system and IMU sensor are integrated onto the PCB board as well, with PID controller and special kinematics programming interface. The special kinematics of SSM is modeled for pose control. In the end, experiments are setup to verify the high deformation precision and measure the achieved bearing capacity, that is more than twice its dead weight.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133715830","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The system is composed of a PDMS chip including three microfluidic channels, a microscope for appropriately enlarging RBC, and a high-speed vision for observing both the cell size and behaviors in the channel, respectively. We particularly focus on how to analyze the deformability of single cells by the proposed vision analyzer. The analyzer can detect the diameter and velocity of each cell inside and outside the test channel. Based on the information, we can obtain a deformability map which shows the relationship between cell deformation and transit velocity. The results obtained by the proposed vision analyzer are compared to the manual evaluation with a tuning parameter based on gray level control. The comparison results show that the error is less than 5% between vision-based and manual evaluations.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"214 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115507444","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
