In this study, we developed a robot that moves in gas pipes and acquires pictures of interior of pipes in order to easily identify problems, such as cracks in the walls or water leakages. The robot consists of two balloons and an extension hose, which can be extended or shrunk by means of changing the internal pressure. This mechanism allows the robot to move like an inchworm in gas pipes. The robot also has an active-bending module, driven by air pressure that allows it to pass curved pipe sections. Therefore, the robot can move horizontally and vertically in pipes having an inner diameter of both 28 mm and 53 mm.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131279952","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is a fundamental oral care technique in daily life; however, many elderly or handicapped people cannot brush their teeth without assistance from helpers. The purpose of this study is to develop an automatic teeth cleaning mouthpiece robot. One of the most common methods of brushing teeth is to move the toothbrush along the row of teeth. Hence, a mechanism to wipe teeth using sponges is designed and it consists of an eccentric cam, a wiper with sponges, and a rounded guide rail. This mechanism generates rounded wiper motions along the row of teeth. Furthermore, a safety system is designed to prevent aspiration. Brushing stops automatically when the user lifts his/her jaw up from the jaw supporter.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130462878","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Scientists focus on brain-inspired intelligence, namely, try to get inspiration from the brain nervous system and cognitive behavior mechanism, to develop intelligent computing models as well as algorithms with stronger information representation, processing and learning ability. So, the study of neurons and the connections between neurons of brain are needed. One major obstacle of reconstruction lies in segmenting and tracking neuronal processes. Electron microscopy is producing neurons images rapidly. In response, we propose an efficient method for neuronal tracking in electron microscopy images to help scientists reconstruct complex neurons. First, we track neurons by kernelized correlation filter to get candidate neuron; then we calculate overlap area and distance of the contours between two consecutive images to get final neuron. We evaluate the performance of our method on a public electron microscopy dataset. The method is superior in accuracy and efficiency.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"22 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115685903","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, the scattering coefficient calculation model of the defect is built by using subarray transmitter-receiver pair. Then an approach of crack like defect characterization based on the scattering coefficient distribution is developed in the light of study on the relationship between scattering coefficient and direction of defect. The full focusing image from the full matrix capture data obtained to determine the location of the defect. Then, scattering coefficient distribution was deduced to extract the information on the crack like defect orientation by dividing the linear array into a certain number of subarrays. Results in simulation show that the crack like defect characterization method is effective.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116772852","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The spatial characteristics of auditory stimuli tended to be biased toward the spatial characteristics of visual stimuli. Many studies have shown that spatial consistency of audiovisual stimuli can influence the interaction between visual and auditory stimulus, however, the multisensory mechanisms were not well understood. Here, we investigated the effect of visual spatial information on auditory detection in a auditory attention task. The auditory stimuli were presented through two speakers that was placed on the left and right of the display. The visual stimuli were presented on the left (−8°), right (+8°) or central (0°) locations. Visual stimuli and auditory stimuli were presented in a consistent or inconsistent position. From the results, the responses to consistent audiovisual stimuli were faster and more accurate than inconsistent stimuli. The effect of the left and right stimuli were greater in the central visual flash. This study provided evidence that auditory detection can be affected by the visual stimuli come from different spatial locations even if the visual stimuli were not attended. We expect that these results could helpful to process the audiovisual information of artificial intelligence.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116774181","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on 2D models in polar coordinates, the analytical formulas of the open-circuit airgap flux density in PM motors equipped with parallel magnetised magnets are derived by solving the Laplace's equation or Poisson's equation in the regions of airgap, PM and shaft core. And based on the rotor with surface-mounted magnets, analytical formulas of rotors with cylindrical or ring-type PMs generally for high-speed PM motors are also obtained by mathematical methods. Considering the slotting effects, the calculation results of magnetic field analysis are modified by 2D relative permeance function. By comparing with finite element analysis, it is proved that this analytical method is correct and reliable because of their good agreement in waveform and magnitude. It provides a powerful tool for optimal design and performance analysis of PM motors.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"42 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120874161","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For the development of VR, human recognition mechanism is a crucial factor. Previous neuroimaging studies of the visual recognition have found that mechanism of recognition is different on retinal eccentricity of visual field. For example, when we recognize the face, the building and the scene, we use the central vision field. However not only the central vision field but also the peripheral vision field is used for building recognition. And for the recognize of the scene, the peripheral vision field is even more important than central vision field. Revealing the object recognition mechanism demands us to clarify the functions of the central and the peripheral vision field. The purpose of this study is the first step to reveal the object recognition mechanism of the central and the peripheral vision field. We analyze the dependency of the fundamental elements of the objects on retinal eccentricity. The retinal eccentricity is the degree of the gap between the central and the peripheral vision field. Basically, we measured the dependency of recognition on retinal eccentricity of visual field as we changed the elements and the exposure duration of stimuli. The fundamental elements of the objects are the stimuli size and the line width of the stimuli. The stimuli size and the line width of the stimuli showed a large dependency on retinal eccentricity of visual field. But the exposure duration of stimuli showed a small dependency on retinal eccentricity of visual field.","PeriodicalId":124642,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Conference on Mechatronics and Automation (ICMA)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127216624","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
