Using fermented rice bran (FRB) as adjunct food ingredient promotes health among consumers. In the Philippines, adding FRB into foods is a fresh product concept. Developing FRBincorporated food products requires that the new products are consumeroriented, that is, it optimally fit with the needs and expectations of the consumers. The study seeks to assess consumers' perceptions and purchase intention for loaf bread, pan de sal, cookies, and other bread added with fermented rice bran (FRB) as input to developing FRB-incorporated bakery products. Descriptive analysis was performed to analyze the respondents' socio-demographic characteristics, purchase and consumption data for the existing bakery products, and their awareness, perceptions, and purchase intensions for FRB-incorporated bakery products. Binary regression analysis was employed to determine the factors affecting consumers' purchase intention toward bakery products added with FRB. Results showed that majority (79%) of the respondents perceived FRBincorporated bakery products as nutritious. Their willingness to pay for FRBincorporated loaf bread (PhP53.39/piece), FRB-incorporated pan de sal (PhP3.80/piece), FRB-incorporated other breads (PhP7.67/piece), and FRBincorporated cookies (PhP8.31/piece) were higher than the prices of the existing (non-FRB-incorporated) bakery products. Regression analysis reveals that educational attainment (coefficient=0.86, p=0.038), mother as household decision-maker (coefficient=2.40, p=0.051), consumers' perception for the FRBincorporated bakery products being healthy (coefficient=3.29, p=0.022) and perceived good taste (coefficient =0.19, p=0.001) were significant factors affecting consumers' willingness to buy bakery products added with fermented rice bran. The results can be used by product developers, potential technology adopters, and other stakeholders for developing FRB-incorporated bakery products.","PeriodicalId":124576,"journal":{"name":"Science and Humanities Journal","volume":"675 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139371403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 240 heads of ready-to-lay quails were laid out in a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) and were assigned to the following treatments; ACommercial feeds, B-Home-mixed ration with 10% NISC Sp-35, C- Home-mixed ration with 10% NISC Sp-36, and D- Home-mixed ration with 10% Sp Japonita. The data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA for RCBD, and differences were determined using Tukey's Honestly Significant Difference Test (HSD) at p<0.05. The commercial diet improved hen-day egg production, FCR per dozen eggs, FCR per kilogram egg mass, and eggshell thickness. On the other hand, there were no significant differences (p>0.05) observed in egg weight, egg shape index, dry shell weight, yolk-albumen ratio and yolk total antioxidant activity. The yolk color score of HMR diets was significantly higher (p>0.05) and the yolk cholesterol deposition was lesser than those in the commercial diet. The financial analysis showed that the gross return was highest in the commercial ration. However, HMR diets performed better in terms of net income, return over feed cost, egg-to-feed price ratio, benefit-cost ratio, and return over investment.","PeriodicalId":124576,"journal":{"name":"Science and Humanities Journal","volume":"34 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139371309","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, the study was conducted to evaluate the physicochemical and biological properties, as well as determine the nutrient status, and recommend proper nutrient management practices in selected barangays of Panitan, Capiz, Philippines. Soil samples were collected from six farms and analyzed for their morpho-physical, chemical, biological properties and fertility status. Results revealed that the soil of all farms are slightly to moderately developed having an Ap, AB, Bg, Btg, Bwg, BC, and C horizons. They have brown-colored horizons, which have clay texture, few to no rock fragments, sub-angular blocky soil structure, friable, slightly sticky and slightly plastic, and coarse to fine mottles. The highest soil microbial activity was noted seven days after incubation. Results also revealed that all soils studied are less fertile having a very strongly acidic to slightly alkaline soil pH (4.83 to 7.47), very low to a low amount of soil organic matter (0.15% to 2.81%), very low to medium total nitrogen (0.03% to 0.22%), low to moderate available phosphorus (0.1 mg kg-1 to 17.31 mg kg-1), low to moderate exchangeable potassium (0.06 cmol kg-1 to 0.7 cmol kg-1), and very low to low cation exchange capacity (0.027 cmol kg-1 to 12.68 cmol kg-1). Therefore, to enhance the fertility status of the paddy fields it is recommended to integrate the rice straw after harvest, practice green manuring, and combine organic and inorganic fertilizer applications.","PeriodicalId":124576,"journal":{"name":"Science and Humanities Journal","volume":"691 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139371324","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A total of 50 grams of larvae was cultivated in a controlled environment and then allocated into uniformly-sized boxes, following a completely randomized design (CRD) with 12 replications per treatment involving combined substrates: A) azolla-soft pollard, B) azolla-rice bran D2, and C) azolla-ground yellow corn. The larvae produced using azolla-soft pollard substrate were used as the protein ingredient in the subsequent experiment. The selection of the larvae was based on the highest yield and lowest neutral detergent fiber value. One hundred twenty-eight (128) day-old broiler chicks were distributed to the 4 dietary treatments in randomized complete block design with cage location as the blocking factor. Ration were formulated to contain 0%, 2%, 4%, and 6% superworm larvae meal (SLM) as protein ingredient. The experimental design used was Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) and data gathered were analyzed using one-way analysis of variance of SAS university edition. Broilers under control group exhibited better growth performance compared to those with SLM inclusion. However, gradual improvement in growth performance and economic analysis for birds fed at 6% SLM inclusion was observed. Moreover, increase in carcass and gizzard weight was also observed when SLM was included at 4% and 6% in the diet. Incorporating 6% superworm larvae meal (SLM) into the diets of broiler chickens can lead to a gradual enhancement in their growth performance. To minimize chitin content, it is recommended to harvest superworms at a lower instar stage.","PeriodicalId":124576,"journal":{"name":"Science and Humanities Journal","volume":"33 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139371774","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study aimed to determine the effects of growth regulators on the growth and yield of hybrid lowland rice, determine the kind of growth regulators and their appropriate concentrations that would give the optimum yield of hybrid lowland rice, and evaluate the profitability of rice production per hectare using the different plant growth regulators applied to hybrid lowland rice. The experimental area was laid out in Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with three replications. The treatments were T = control, T = 500 ppm PBZ + RR, T = 1000 ppm PBZ + RR, T = 0 1 2 3 500 ppm PBZ + 500 ppm ANAA + RR, T = 500 ppm ANAA + RR, T = 1000 ppm ANAA 4 5 + RR, and T =120-60-60 kg ha-1 N, P O K O [RR]). Results revealed that the 6 2 5, 2 application of plant growth regulators significantly affected the agronomic characteristics of hybrid lowland rice. Rice plants applied with paclobutrazol regardless of the level (T and T ) and unfertilized plants (T ) headed and matured 1 2 0 earlier than the other treatments. The application of PBZ and NAA regardless of the concentration (T -T ) significantly did not vary in all the yield components of hybrid 1 5 rice. However, rice plants applied with 500ppm + RR (T ) obtained the highest net 1 income of Php 59, 496.33, which is slightly higher than plants applied with 1,000 ppm PBZ + R.R. This study was conducted to determine the supply of fish waste and awareness of fish vendors on the potential use of fish by-products as silage. This study specifically determined the socio-demographic profile of fish vendors in the barangays and public market of Baybay City. Additionally, it identified the supply and means of disposal of local fish by-products and most importantly, determined the awareness of fish vendors on the utilization of fish by-products. Using descriptive research design, a total of 42 respondents were surveyed and interviewed. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as percentage and ranking. The results showed that fish vendors were mostly female with age ranges from 51- 60 years and high school graduates. These vendors earned around P10, 000.00 per month from selling fish that were sourced out from nearby towns. Top fish varieties being sold in Baybay City public market were Blackfin scad, mackerel tuna, and milkfish were among the top fish being sold in Baybay City. Fish waste by products weighing1-5 kilograms per vendor were disposed based on three (3) times a day based in the daily schedules using garbage truck to prevent foul odors. These fish wastes were not sold to consumers, although a few would ask for it as pet food. With this, there is a huge potential on the utilization of these by products as animal feeds, and therefore offers a possible sustainable project between the government and the academe.","PeriodicalId":124576,"journal":{"name":"Science and Humanities Journal","volume":"04 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130480642","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A split-split plot in a threefactor factorial study (2 x 5 x 3), arranged in randomized complete block design was conducted to evaluate the effects of soil types, organic fertilizers and concoctions, and rates of inorganic fertilizers on the chemical properties of acidic and neutral soil, growth, yield and nutrient uptake of Pak Choi. Nutrient contents of reformulated vermicast, IMO , fermented plant juice, and fish amino acid were 6 determined. Significant interactions were observed among the three factors for total N and total P in Pak Choi. Total N in plant was highest in acidic soil added with IMO at 50 6 % rate of inorganic fertilizer. This was significantly different from neutral soil in which the highest total was noted with the addition of 100 % inorganic fertilizer. Total P was found significantly highest in acidic soil with IMO with no significant 6 effect in neutral soil. IMO alone showed significant improvement in all of the plant 6 parameters gathered for the rates of inorganic fertilizer, Pak Choi applied with 100 % inorganic at 100 % exhibited superior performance. The addition of IMO and 6 reformulated vermicast resulted in a significantly higher total N in soil. Moreover, available P and exchangeable K were significantly higher in neutral soil while soil pH significantly decreased with the addition of 100 % inorganic fertilizer. The study was conducted to know the effects of this world wide pandemic to graduate students in VSU and to look into the problems they encountered as well as the various coping mechanisms especially in dealing with the virtual delivery of instructions. This will provide vital information for institutional planning in the implementation of graduate programs in the university during the Covid-19 pandemic. This study was conducted through online survey involving 200 graduate students as part of the graduate tracer studies of the university. Majority of the problems identified include the following: no stable internet connectivity; inaccessibility of laboratory facilities because of restrictions to enter the university campus; difficulty in conducting thesis analysis; unable to meet the deadlines in submitting required printed copy of reports because of long delayed shipment; inaccessibility of books in the library necessary for the preparation and discussion of thesis; laboratory exercises were difficult to accomplished due to inaccessibility to laboratory equipment and facilities and difficulty in understanding some complex lessons with virtual study delivery. In addition, they also emphasized that online mode of learning is more stressful that causes anxiety and mental illness. The online discussions were quite difficult and laboratory principles could not be well understood because of no actual practical laboratory activities in technical courses; so many distractions and noises in students' surroundings with the virtual mode of teaching delivery; hard time searching for resources and lots of requirements and activities to comply. The respondent likewise gave some suggestions to improve the online delivery of instructions. These include the provision of recorded class discussions, longer hours in taking online exams, transparency of grading system and healthy environment between the teacher and students.","PeriodicalId":124576,"journal":{"name":"Science and Humanities Journal","volume":"120 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117301110","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Black rice (Oryza sativa L. Bingawan cultivar) is known to be both. While most studies on rice are conducted through conventional approach, this experiment aimed to assess the response of black rice to various organic production systems on productivity and marginal analysis. A Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) was used with 4 replications and 3 treatments; T = UPLB's best bet organic production system, T = optimized organic 1 2 production system in Leyte, and T = conventional production system in Leyte. 3 Leyte's optimized organic production system (T ) promoted the heading and 2 maturity of black rice comparable to the conventional production system in Leyte (T ). The UPLB's best bet organic production system (T ) produced heavier fresh 3 1 straw yield and total biomass, more productive tillers, filled and unfilled grains per panicle, heavier grains per hill, and high grain yield. However, it generated a lower net margin than the conventional production system in Leyte (T ). When sold 3 unmilled, black rice has comparable net margins irrespective of the production systems. The markedly higher yield in T failed to compensate for the higher 1 production cost, resulting in a lower net margin. It is worth noting, however, that organic rice commands a relatively higher prevailing price, unmilled and milled, than those produced in the conventional system.","PeriodicalId":124576,"journal":{"name":"Science and Humanities Journal","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-27","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124520719","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
