Patients receiving M3R agonist therapy (n=46) had significantly improved salivary flow rate at one year after treatment initiation compared with before treatment, and this improvement was maintained for 8 years. Patients with-out M3R agonist therapy (n=16) had a significantly decreased salivary flow rate at 7 years after treatment initiation compared with before treatment. Multivariate analysis revealed that both the salivary flow rate and sonographic find-ings of the parotid glands before treatment were significant predictors of the efficacy of M3R agonist therapy in patients with SS (p<0.05). M3R agonists improve the salivary flow rate, especially in the early stage of SS. Our data suggest that early initiation and long-term continuation of M3R agonist therapy are important in the treatment of xerostomia in patients with SS.","PeriodicalId":124417,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Japanese Society of Oral Medicine","volume":"138 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131338371","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

NST intervention was initiated from an early stage of postoperative chemoradiotherapy due to malnutrition. The nutritional status of the patient gradually improved through total par-enteral nutrition and/or percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG). Dysphagia rehabilitation was conducted and oral intake was increased. The gastrostomy tube was removed 296 days after PEG placement. The postoperative course was uneventful without any recurrence during 1 year and 6 months follow-up. The nutritional status of the patient is well maintained.","PeriodicalId":124417,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Japanese Society of Oral Medicine","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130569933","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many of these are suf-fering from psychological problems. This article summarizes the mental and psychological backgrounds of patients with chronic diseases including diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, kidney diseases and collagen and collagen-related diseases. The most common psychological problem experienced by patients with chronic diseases is depressive symptoms. Depressive symptoms frequently decrease the ability of self-management, which leads to worsening of dental problems. Dentists should consider mental and psychological problems in patients with chronic diseases.","PeriodicalId":124417,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Japanese Society of Oral Medicine","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130178624","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We immunohistochemically analyzed familial and non-familial cases of WSN to clarify the pathogeneses. Methods: Biopsy specimens were examined for two cases of familial WSN and six cases of non-familial WSN that had been clinically and histopathologically confirmed. Anti-keratin 4, 5, 6, 10, 13, and 16 antibodies were used for immunohistochemical analyses. Results: In familial and non-familial WSN, clinical features and results of histopathology using hematoxylin and eosin staining are very similar. No differences in staining patterns for keratin 4, 5, 6, 10, or 16 were evident between groups. However, epithelial layers in non-familial cases showed good staining with anti-K13 antibody, whereas familial WSN showed no staining with anti-K13 antibody in the epithelial layers. Conclusion: Immunohistochemical examination showed different staining patterns. These differences may be attribut-able to differences in K13 mutation status.","PeriodicalId":124417,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Japanese Society of Oral Medicine","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129493323","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
