The investigation focuses on the change of the effect when the locations of displaced synchronous generators vary. Theoretical analysis is carried out on the basis of the continuum model of a power system, which is demonstrated and validated by simulation and computation of an example two-area multi-machine power system. It is shown in the paper that the effect of displacement on power system transient stability is beneficial if the displacement makes the system more “symmetrical” and vice versa, which is related with the steady-state load flow conditions and distribution of inertia of synchronous generators in the power system.","PeriodicalId":123761,"journal":{"name":"2017 2nd International Conference on Power and Renewable Energy (ICPRE)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129222658","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The adjustable speed drive (ASD) is one sensitive part of the process to voltage sags which will cause the interruption of the whole process if it trips due to sags. It is essential to analyze the voltage tolerance ability of ASDs and formulate a representative standard voltage tolerance curve (VTC) for it. Firstly, this paper analyzed basic influence principle of sags on ASDs and the influence of multiple factors on the voltage tolerance ability of ASDs, including sags types, load torque, motor speed, control strategy, pre-post sag voltage and harmonics. Then a test platform was established using the Chroma 61860 Regenerative Grid Simulator as the source of sag. 7 typical brands of ASDs with 2 kinds of rated power were selected to be tested. Later, sets of VTCs were obtained and further analyzed separately. The majority of the conclusions shows consistency to the theoretical analysis, but there are also some distinctions to the present conclusions. Finally, relatively universal VTCs for three of sags were proposed, which are of reference meaning to regulate the special standard curve for ASDs.","PeriodicalId":123761,"journal":{"name":"2017 2nd International Conference on Power and Renewable Energy (ICPRE)","volume":"224 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114691792","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Based on a study of the existing monitoring methods of optical fiber communication in smart substation, a monitoring system of optical power is proposed by analyzing the historical data and historical trend. Some key parts such as the framework for the monitoring system of optical power, template library of component, historical database and the analysis of historical trend are implemented. In this monitoring system, prediction of changes in optical power based on historical trend is designed and analyzed. Their characteristic output power depends on fluctuating climatic conditions like temperature, cloud cover, and irradiance. Since climate is not always uniform, maximum power point tracking techniques are used in solar power systems to extract maximum power from photovoltaic systems. In this paper, voltage and current data from a 50 W stand-alone photovoltaic module located in Rwamagana district, Rwanda were recorded and used to compare the performance between incremental conductance algorithm with perturb and observe algorithm for maximum power point tracking. The maximum power point of 12.044 W was achieved at 15 hours for the incremental conductance algorithm. Both I-V and P-V characteristics of PV system show n-shaped nonlinear conductance and n-shaped nonlinear current characteristic curves. An equation was developed for the dissipative saw-tooth wave irradiance characteristic curve, at fairly constant temperatures, in the study.","PeriodicalId":123761,"journal":{"name":"2017 2nd International Conference on Power and Renewable Energy (ICPRE)","volume":"179 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133888041","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a multi-source optimal schedule of power system considering smoothing effect of wind and photovoltaic sources is proposed to alleviate the adverse effect of wind and solar power and to realize the economic operation. The cluster composed of six wind power plants and three photovoltaic plants in Portland of America is adopted as the study objective. Firstly, index for assessing smoothing effect is proposed and the influence factors of smoothing effect are analyzed. Secondly, six typical weather patterns are identified based on the power output fluctuation of the wind and solar. Loads can be modeled as static ZIP coefficients or as equivalent thermostatic loads (ETLs) for CVR peak demand and energy savings calculations. In this paper, simulations of a benchmark 69-bus distribution system show that ETLs can better capture end-use loads power and energy changes as ambient temperature varies.
