A deep neural network (DNN) and a convolutional neural network (CNN) were trained to map raw images from a forward-looking camera to steering and speed commands (right, left, forward, reverse). The mechanical, electrical, and software design of the autonomous car is presented and the architectures of the DNN and CNN are discussed. The accuracy and loss of both types of neural networks is compared to two existing models VGG16 and DenseNet. A finite state machine is used to control the behavior of the car as it transitions between lane-following and stopped states during experimental demonstrations. The car enters the stopped state when either a stop sign is detected (using a Haar classifier and monocular vision) or an ultrasonic sensor indicates the presence of an obstacle.","PeriodicalId":123696,"journal":{"name":"2019 53rd Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems (CISS)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128902065","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Our goal in this paper is to evaluate the impact of phase noise, which is widely considered to be a significant bottleneck at high carrier frequencies and large bandwidths, on MIMO performance. Our analysis provides a cross-layer design framework which can be employed by hardware designers to determine allowable masks for the phase noise power spectral density for different circuit components. For typical settings, we conclude that scaling up to a large number of antenna elements by increasing the number of tiles (each tile supporting a fixed number of antenna elements) is attractive in two ways: (1) for a fixed number of users, reducing the load factor (ratio of number of users to number of antennas) improves performance with phase noise, and (2) the independent phase noise generated at each tile gets averaged across tiles. We illustrate our numerical results for a nominal 140 GHz system with per-user data rates of 10 Gbps.","PeriodicalId":123696,"journal":{"name":"2019 53rd Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems (CISS)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128930030","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

When users are deployed in a field, as in sensor networks or vehicular networks, each transmitter is often unaware of the exact statistics of the fading coefficients, while it is known to be one among a set of possible distributions. In this paper, using the distributed CSI availability at the encoders and full CSI at the receiver of a fading Gaussian MAC, we design communication schemes achieving the compound sum-capacity, i.e. maximal sum-rate which can be supported irrespective of the set of encountered fading distributions. Models with and without power control are analyzed.","PeriodicalId":123696,"journal":{"name":"2019 53rd Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems (CISS)","volume":"152 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115192209","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here we propose using semiconductor thin film photonic crystals with relevant photonic bands that fall within the absorbing frequency range of the material for spectral selectivity. Optical simulations show that the in-plane photonic bands couple strongly to normal-incidence external fields, inducing tunable resonance features in the out-of-plane transmission and reflection spectra. Experimentally, we fabricate a proof-of-principle photonic structure with enhanced visible transparency, consisting of a self-assembled polystyrene bead array infiltrated with colloidal quantum dots, showing promise for multijunction and transparent photovoltaics.","PeriodicalId":123696,"journal":{"name":"2019 53rd Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems (CISS)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125924880","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This theory has had a wide spectrum of applications in various scientific fields. In this paper we study bacteria communications through the conjunction of the Mitchell’s criteria and the path integral theory. The factor aggressive of some families of bacteria might be associated to the fact that most of them under displacement are in an indirect manner using the criteria as (i) task, (ii) performance, and (iii) experience. The path integral is used to model space-time trajectories that would enable us to anticipate through advanced Internet technologies such as the Internet of Bio-Nano Things.","PeriodicalId":123696,"journal":{"name":"2019 53rd Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems (CISS)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131000783","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we study the efficiency of the market, when a collection of DERs are represented by a profit-maximizing aggregator. We model the interaction between the aggregator and the DER owners as a Stackelberg game. Our analysis characterizes the price of aggregation—the efficiency loss due to the strategic incentives of the aggregator in representing a collection of DERs as opposed to direct DER participation in the wholesale market.","PeriodicalId":123696,"journal":{"name":"2019 53rd Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems (CISS)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122024358","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Building on prior work in stochastic network calculus, we propose traffic burstiness bounds based on the class of phase-type distributions and develop an approach to estimate the parameter of such bounds using the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm. By limiting the tail of the burstiness bound, our approach achieves a better fit of the phase-type distribution to the empirical data from heavy-tailed traffic. The proposed tail-limited phase-type burstiness bounds fall within the framework for stochastic network calculus based on generalized stochastically bounded burstiness. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology with a numerical example involving a heavy-tailed M/G/1 queue.1","PeriodicalId":123696,"journal":{"name":"2019 53rd Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems (CISS)","volume":"72 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125570449","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many new data transmission protocols have been developed to enable multi-path data transmissions between two hosts. However, the existing multi-path transmission protocol designs are limited as they neglect the stochastic nature of the metrics of the paths, e.g., latency, available bandwidth, and packet loss. Moreover, there are different design requirements in the applications, such as low latency, bandwidth throttling, and low loss rate in data delivery. In this paper, we propose a flexible online learning multi-path selection (OLMPS) framework to select multiple paths by learning the stochastic metrics of the paths and meeting the design requirements of the applications. Specifically, we design a set of novel online learning algorithms in the OLMPS framework for three different applications, maxRTT constrained, bandwidth constrained, and loss rate constrained, multi-path selection, to select paths and satisfy the requirements. We prove that the algorithms can provide theoretical guarantees on both sublinear regret and sublinear violation in our OLMPS framework.","PeriodicalId":123696,"journal":{"name":"2019 53rd Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems (CISS)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129996602","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the black and white QR codes structure represents a constraint for their integration into publicity campaigns. In this paper, an algorithm to generate visually enhanced QR codes is proposed. The algorithm aims at blending the black and white QR code with a color image. Taking advantage of the error correction codes used in the standard QR code encoding, the original binary QR code is modified without affecting the decoding rate. Gauss-Jordan elimination is utilized to generate this new binary QR code whose structure is more similar to the color image. Finally, the luminance of the blended image is optimized to minimize a metric of visual quality subject to a constraint in the maximum probability of decoding error.","PeriodicalId":123696,"journal":{"name":"2019 53rd Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems (CISS)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132947916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We prove that the three-dimensional shifts, the amplitudes, and the unknown waveforms can all be recovered precisely and with high probability via convex programming when the number of the observed samples obeys certain complexity bound. This exact recovery holds provided that the shifts are sufficiently separated and that the unknown waveforms lie in a common known low-dimensional subspace that satisfies certain assumptions.","PeriodicalId":123696,"journal":{"name":"2019 53rd Annual Conference on Information Sciences and Systems (CISS)","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-03-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126929700","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
