On the other hand, it is recognized that identifying the quality characteristics that contribute to and influence the psychotherapeutic relationship and process is a difficult task, as it depends on the therapeutic boundaries of this relationship, the characteristics of the therapist, but also on factors related with the patient, such as his/her attitudes, expectations, motivations and commitment to a process of change. One element that seems to characterize the identity of each member individually, but also the dynamic processes of interaction between the therapeutic dyad, is gender. For this reason, the article underlines the importance of gender in shaping the communication and cooperation between therapists and patients, while stating also that awareness of the gender dynamics, in combination with other identity characteristics, is a prerequisite for an effective and ethical practice.","PeriodicalId":123595,"journal":{"name":"Psychology: the Journal of the Hellenic Psychological Society","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-06-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124408928","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, we report on a single case study of a female adolescent, TK, aged 15;9 diagnosed with Sotos syndrome. The main goal was to investigate her phonological short-term memory abilities as well as her visuospatial memory abilities and language abilities. We employed the following tests: (a) Raven’s Progressive Matrices and Vocabulary Scales (Greek edition) (Raven et al., 2003/2004), (b) Renfrew Word Finding Vocabulary Test – Greek edition (Vogindroukas et al., 2009), (c) Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test –Special Edition (Greek edition) (Simos et al., 2012), (d) Action Picture Test – Greek edition (Vogindroukas et al., 2011), and (e) Bezevegis et al.’s (2008) memory test. The most profound deficiencies were observed in expressive vocabulary and pragmatic/communicative skills, while difficulties were also found in verbal short-term memory. Deficiencies were also observed in verbal and non-verbal IQ in agreement with previous findings (Cole & Hughes, 1994. de Boer et al., 2004. Finegan et al., 1994). TK’s performance on visuospatial sketchpad was slightly better compared to the results obtained through the other tests. We discuss the clinical implications of our findings.","PeriodicalId":123595,"journal":{"name":"Psychology: the Journal of the Hellenic Psychological Society","volume":"45 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-03-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133504322","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this article is to review the most important developments in this scientific dialogue during the seven years after the publication of the manual. To begin with, reference is briefly made to the development of the DSM-5 as well as to criticism and response to this criticism that immediately followed publication of the manual. Then, later developments regarding the DSM-5 are discussed, such as the focus on particular issues of concern as well as significant social and economic changes regarding contemporary classification systems. Research findings on the current use of diagnostic classification systems are also presented. Finally, particular areas of interest and concern regarding future classification, and new proposals as the Research Domain Criteria (RDoc) of the National Institute of Mental Health in the United States are discussed.","PeriodicalId":123595,"journal":{"name":"Psychology: the Journal of the Hellenic Psychological Society","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-12-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128210013","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The PNI is a self-report scale recently developed to measure both narcissistic grandiosity (Exploitativeness, Grandiose Fantasy, Self-sacrificing Selfenhancement)and narcissistic vulnerability (Contingent Self-esteem, Hiding the Self, Devaluing, Entitlement rage). The English version of the PNI was translated to Greek and administered to 283 University students.Confirmatory factor analysis was used to investigate its factor structure in the Greek sample. Several models were evaluated: a. the initial seven-factor first-order model, b. three second-order models with two secondorder latent factors (Grandiosity, Vulnerability), c. three second-order models with three higher order latent factors (Grandiosity, Vulnerability, Malignancy). Goodness-of-fit indices showed better fit for the seven-factor structure, however, acceptable fit was also achieved for most of the second-order models as well. Reliability coefficients were within the acceptable standards for all subscales. The models are evaluated theoretically and the advantages of assessing narcissism in Greece with the PNI are discussed.","PeriodicalId":123595,"journal":{"name":"Psychology: the Journal of the Hellenic Psychological Society","volume":"13 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122177720","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Participants were 277 university students with ongoing dating relationships who provided their demographics and information on their sexual profiles, partners, and relationships. Participants rated their relationships in terms of matrimonial and hedonistic (passionate) characteristics, and indicated whether they had used a condomat first intercourse, at latest intercourse, and consistently during the relationship. Condoms were more likely to be used at first intercourse, at latest intercourse and during the relationship when they had been used at sexual debut (first-time-in-life sexual intercourse). However, they were less likely to be used at latest intercourse, the longer and the more hedonistic the relationship. In addition, increased frequency of coital sex during the relationship was associated with less consistent condom use. It appears that condom use at sexual debut establishes a resilient habit of condom use in future relationships. However, relationship duration, sexual passion, and frequency of coital sex appear to undermine condom use. Condom use promotion should address young audiences at an early age, emphasizing that relationship length, frequency of coital sex, and passion may work against protective behavior in a relationship.","PeriodicalId":123595,"journal":{"name":"Psychology: the Journal of the Hellenic Psychological Society","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132878552","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It follows a line of thought developed during the author’s own teachingand research experience with young children and with tutors of students in further and higher education, concerning variation in understanding what is to be learned. It combines a prior interest in Pask’sconversation theory of learning with appreciation of the socio-cultural shaping of learning practices as expressed in such work as that of Säljö. Pask’s work is explored in terms of its helpfulness in examiningthe nature of success and difficulty in learning under tutorial instruction, in particular in pointing to the importance of defining those aspects of what might be called the architecture of a learning conversation thatare essential for the growth of understanding. It calls on consideration of understanding as a process towards, and achievement of, agreement between learner and tutor about the procedures of expressing andexplaining the conceptualisation of a topic in a knowledge domain. This leads to the need for recognition of the way practices in the acquisition and transmission of knowledge vary across different subject fields.Säljö’s work is particularly illuminating with its emphasis on the ways cultural practices as language impregnate activities, and shape the substance and nature of learning. The route to answering the originalquestion is seen as suggesting a set of possibilities that provide challenge and guidance for the conduct and understanding of learning and teaching in higher education.","PeriodicalId":123595,"journal":{"name":"Psychology: the Journal of the Hellenic Psychological Society","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-15","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115243165","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
