No specific infrastructure is necessary, since the stations establish all communications in a self-organizing manner. Nowadays, the IEEE 802.11 standard is widely used for wireless broad bandwidth networks that even supports an ad hoc mode. Here, the timer synchronization function (TSF) is used to synchronize all stations within a single-hop environment. Lately, a modification of this scheme named adaptive timer synchronization function (ATSF) has been proposed to improve the performance for dense single-hop networks. For larger scale networks, where stations are spread over a wider area, multi-hop communication is an essential requirement. Thus, the scalability of these synchronization schemes within such scenarios is of great interest. Here, the wireless wide area network simulator (WWANS) affords detailed analysis. Previous work employing the multi-slot service commonly assume that one or two channels are required by a GPRS data request for the sake of analytical simplicity. In this paper, we remove this assumption and generalize the GPRS data channel requirement (M channels). In addition, we propose a channel re-allocation schemes (RAS) upon channel release by re-allocating the released channels to the GPRS data which is currently using less than M channels with the potential to fully utilize the available resources. The result shows that RAS can significantly decrease the voice call blocking probability and the GPRS packet transmission time, and simultaneously increase the channel utilization with negligible penalty on GPRS packet blocking probability. A model of the MIMO channel resolved in orthogonal polarization planes was employed to apply multipath parameters of the channel to antenna array patterns, in order to predict the antenna-gain inclusive channel response. In conventional wireless sensor networks, the intermediate node performs the regenerative repeating process such that error correction, detection and re-encoding are processed. This is reliable, but it requires a lot of processing effort and may take much energy. To reduce a burden of relay process, we propose to omit error decoding and/or re-encoding process at the intermediate nodes. Further, we propose a method that realizes soft-decision decoding for hard-detected signals. With this method, we can employ turbo code to wireless sensor networks. Mobile IP allows the node to perform an IP handoff without breaking its active sessions. However, this handoff introduces an interruption in these sessions. Different mechanisms cooperate to allow a mobile node to perform a mobile IP handoff. The movement detection process, whereby a mobile node becomes aware that it is on a new network, contributes significantly to the handover latency and resulting interruption. Recent recommendations that aim to minimize movement detection delay are explored along with their implications. This paper discusses the design of a framework that will be used to evaluate different movement detection optimizations, with the intention of finding a hybrid solution that effectively minimizes mobile IP handoff delays. A time domain approach is used to determine all dominant paths by which radiation radiates from a transmitter to a receiving site. The number of rays that have to be considered can then be dramatically reduced for subsequent analyses. The properties of received power and delay spread as well as angle of arrival are presented. Each dominant path could then be represented by a function with these properties. Predictions of received waveform are produced by convolving a typical input UWB pulse with these functions. Hence, different input pulse characteristics can be applied to the transmit antenna and the receiver characteristics rapidly evaluated. So far in practical ad hoc networks such as IEEE 802.11, there is no power control. This implies that to find a least-hop route from source to destination results in most energy efficient performance. In this paper, we analyze the route establishment procedure of the reactive routing protocols. When the route request packet RREQ propagates from source to destination, it suffers processing delay and potential congestion delay at each hop. Due to possible congestion, the RREQ packet first received by the destination does not necessarily correspond to the minimum hop route. The expected propagation delay along one path is discussed and we assert that it is proportional to the hop count of the path and the packet congestion probability p in term of p/(1-p). Then numerical analysis is given for the probability that the least-hop path is selected. Later we deploy two methods to improve the least-hop routing probability. Table-based routing algorithms used in proactive protocols are computationally intensive and require periodic transmission of status information amongst all network nodes. Also, routing table volume swells with network size and can be large for dense networks. Therefore to cope with possibly rapidly changing topology reactive protocols such as dynamic source routing (DSR) generate routes for unknown destination paths on an as needs be basis. So as to avoid the continual demand for route discovery in DSR, network nodes record previously determined routes in either path or link caches. A route discovery attempt can possibly result in several paths being uncovered for a single destination. As nodes often have a finite capacity path cache, it may not be possible to store all paths. So as to influence productive caching decisions a fuzzy logic system is applied to the route discovery technique to curb non-optimal network floods. This action causes a cessation in the generation of low quality routes as only paths with good routing metrics are selected for the rebroadcast of route discovery packets. Consequently, route query packets arriving at the necessary destination node, or at some intermediate node with knowledge of the destination node, generate high quality route replies. This paper presents a fuzzy logic based decision algorithm that weighs individual links as a path to the necessary destination is being constructed if this link is deemed suitable by the fuzzy logic system it is added to the path and route construction continue.
