Hybrid networks consist of ad hoc or wireless sensor networks supported by a backbone network. We introduce the concept of consistency degree as a measure of information consistency in such a network. By using this measure backbone links can potentially be managed and self-organized to equilibrate a network's information state locally and globally. Additionally, application scenarios are studied in the context of the introduced concept. Here, the focus is on iRide, a mobile transportation information system that is currently under development.","PeriodicalId":122964,"journal":{"name":"2008 Second Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation (AMS)","volume":"116 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130401471","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firstly, to ascertain the criteria or factors that measure quality of life (QOL) from the perspectives of Perhentian and Redang island communities. Secondly, to test a hypothesised proposed model that illustrates the relationships between spirituality, wellness and QOL. Factor analysis was performed to determine the underlying factors of spirituality, wellness and QOL before proceeding to applying structural equation modelling (SEM), using AMOS 7 to the data set. The findings of the study suggest that the hypothesised model fits the sample data adequately. In addition, the findings of the study supported two hypotheses proposed in the study. Firstly, there is a direct relationship between spirituality and Wellness and, secondly, there is a direct relationship between wellness and QOL. However, the study failed to support the third hypothesis that asserts there is a direct relationship between spirituality and QOL. The implications of the study suggest that community's QOL can be improved by enhancing the community's different aspect of wellness which is turn is influenced by its spirituality level. In addition, factors termed as employment and family bond are crucial to improve QOL.","PeriodicalId":122964,"journal":{"name":"2008 Second Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation (AMS)","volume":"54 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127961925","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As a step towards the next generation outsourcing, we need to ascertain a technology framework to outsource in a secure and optimized manner with reduced reliance on litigations approach. This paper discusses issues involved in simulation and modeling studies for Business Processing Outsourcing (BPO). Multiplexing of BPO infrastructure using Customer Interface Array (CIA), is a distributed environment across various service centers, to minimize delays, maximize efficiency and improve customer satisfaction. The paper discusses a Fuzzy Logic based methodology for customer load balancing across the various service centers. This algorithm is for deployment at the level of the Inter-Dialoguing Processor (IDP), which is used as a resource for facilitating communication between the CIA and the various service centers. IDP is useful to establish context-awareness in BPO environment.","PeriodicalId":122964,"journal":{"name":"2008 Second Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation (AMS)","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126339661","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We examine the ED on the part-whole relation represented in a unified modeling language (UML) and discuss its importance as a modeling primitive for the systems such as OWL (ontology Web language) and UML for ontology definition meta-model (ODM). We then raise a few anomalies in these systems regarding ontological semantics. We then employ the theory of formal ontology which ontologically resolves the semantics of the part-whole relation. As a result, we define rules so the server can find what is needed and present it to the user.","PeriodicalId":122964,"journal":{"name":"2008 Second Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation (AMS)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121263707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During the implementation, this operation brings along the unwanted noise due to misalignment and uneven binarization. Thus, this paper proposes a method to eliminate, if possible, or to reduce as much as possible such noise during the computation of defect detection. This paper used a template PCB image and the tested PCB image as the input. Image subtraction operation will be applied between the images. The results of applying the proposed method showed a significant improvement during the real-time inspection of printed circuit boards.","PeriodicalId":122964,"journal":{"name":"2008 Second Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation (AMS)","volume":"149 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120974221","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Under the support of the voltage scaling- available processors, reducing CPU voltage/frequency in the non-critical path is an efficient energy reduction method. This paper exploited the energy saving opportunities in MPI_Barrier operation. Through testing NPB3.2-MPI programs on 256-process cluster system, we found that the busy time of each process has the big difference each other when the cluster is connected by a 100 Mbps network. We proposed two low-power methods: one is shut-down based MPI_Barrier (SDMB) and the other is dynamic voltage/frequency scaling based MPI_Barrier (DVSMB). Experimental results show that average 4.95% energy saving is obtained through SDMB and average 12.28% energy saving is obtained through DVSMB. SDMB avoids the performance loss through pre-activation strategy and the performance loss of DVSMB is less than 1%.","PeriodicalId":122964,"journal":{"name":"2008 Second Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation (AMS)","volume":"148 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121053831","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the architecture based on the overlapped scan method, the maximum power consumption occurs due to overlap external frame memory access. On the other hand, in the nonoverlapped architecture, the power consumption was reduced to minimum by eliminating the overlapped areas which requires the addition of a line buffer of size N. Furthermore, the performance evaluations by Ibrahim el at., show that those pipelined architectures are optimal in terms of speedup, efficiency and hardware utilization. In this paper, we proposed new architecture, called intermediate architecture, for both 5/3 and 9/7 algorithms, which aim at reducing the power consumption of the overlapped areas, without using the expensive line buffer, to somewhat between the two extreme architectures proposed by Ibrahimt et al.","PeriodicalId":122964,"journal":{"name":"2008 Second Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation (AMS)","volume":"17 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116695372","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This technology has been increasingly used in cancer research because of its potential for classification of the tissue samples based only on gene expression levels. A major problem in these microarray data is that the number of genes greatly exceeds the number of tissue samples. Moreover, these data have a noisy nature. It has been shown from literature review that selecting a small subset of informative genes can lead to an improved classification accuracy. Thus, this paper aims to select a small subset of informative genes that is most relevant for the cancer classification. To achieve this aim, an approach using two hybrid methods has been proposed. This approach is assessed on two well-known microarray data. The experimental results have shown that the gene subsets are very small in size and yield better classification accuracy as compared with other previous works as well as four methods experimented in this work. In addition, a list of informative genes in the best subsets is also presented for biological usage.","PeriodicalId":122964,"journal":{"name":"2008 Second Asia International Conference on Modelling & Simulation (AMS)","volume":"74 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-05-13","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121681812","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
