This increased reliance on the cloud translates to a direct dependence on the cloud data centers, which form the modern cloud. These data centers are complex buildings composed of many system of systems that interact to host the end applications. Detecting anomalous events in this system of systems and then identifying their root cause in a timely manner is a demanding task. In this paper, we present a graphical model to encapsulate the cloud data center system of systems and share a method for reducing the search space for root cause analysis.","PeriodicalId":121664,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 15th International Conference of System of Systems Engineering (SoSE)","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127459805","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is an ascent towards fully automated smart industries. It brings new challenges, but also an opportunity to make industrial manufacturing entities and process part of internet. Due to the delay and security requirements, the flooding of industrial data performing local real time task should be restricted, and only business-relevant, structured data are to be transmitted. For achieving this, we have proposed a two-tier data management architecture based on content filtering. In this context, two different layers are used to process data locally and globally. Additionally, we also discussed a typical industrial automation stack, its underlying processes and relevant technologies. Finally, we touched some research challenges at the last section of this paper as opportunities towards achieving the goal of smart industries.","PeriodicalId":121664,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 15th International Conference of System of Systems Engineering (SoSE)","volume":"51 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116637555","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fields such as cloud and fog computing have been used to counter this first issue, allowing agents to use a network to access systems with much higher computational abilities, but this comes at the cost of increased latency. New architectures such as the Lambda and Kappa architectures have been developed to remedy this issue, allowing for cloud computers to be used while not sacrificing response times. This paper focuses on comparing three different architectures to assess their performance on a simulated robotic swam to solve the mobile sensor optimization problem. These three architectures are a traditional robot, the Lambda architecture, and the Kappa architecture. These systems are compared based off their latency and the runtimes of different algorithms in each implementation.","PeriodicalId":121664,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 15th International Conference of System of Systems Engineering (SoSE)","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132323963","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, optimizing project investment often requires a huge amount of resources and therefore the cost spent on such investments is a critical issue. Thus, decision-makers tend to fall back on conventional approaches such as cost-benefit analysis and use optimizing criteria. However, literature indicates that there are some issues with relying on optimizing criteria based on hard data, including that this approach is passive and lacks the important inclusion of key stakeholders’ perspectives and motivations. Consequently, investment transport infrastructure decisions made can be unaligned with the views of many project stakeholders, and these shortcomings can lead to problems. Therefore, it is essential to seek out a new approach to decision-making that can take advantage of the conventional approach but also reflect key stakeholders’ perspectives and motivations. In line with this goal, our paper proposes a novel approach, the use of ‘satisficing’ criteria applied within infrastructure project investment. The ‘satisficing’ approach will enhance decision-makers’ confidence as well as improving the outcomes of investment decisions and making them more feasible and sustainable.","PeriodicalId":121664,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 15th International Conference of System of Systems Engineering (SoSE)","volume":"43 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122547080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To verify the common goals in an SoS, one of the common approaches is a simulation-based verification. In this study, we develop the simulation-based verification and analysis for system of systems (SIMVA-SoS) tool. SIMVA-SoS consists of interactive simulation and statistical verification. The interactive simulation follows discrete-time and multi-agent simulation structures and enables continuous evolutionary representation. The statistical verification runs the simulation repeatedly and uses the simulation results to statistically determine the satisfaction of verification properties. In the case study, a stimulus was injected into the interactive simulator at runtime to examine the expressiveness of continuous evolution, and statistical verification results were analyzed. The SoS representation through interactive simulation and solving the state explosion problem through statistical verification confirmed the possibility of the simulationbased verification of the SoS.","PeriodicalId":121664,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 15th International Conference of System of Systems Engineering (SoSE)","volume":"47 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129042617","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To meet these challenges many are looking to industry 4.0 technology as a solution, specifically the combination of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and in-field robotics. Although there have been successful prototypes from a functional perspective and promising start-ups, the complex nature of the agriculture system of systems creates a significant risk of mass adoption failure. The main risk stems from the majority of the hundreds of products being designed in isolation using closed hardware and software systems that are all aiming to serve the one farmer or grower. The current silo’d technology adoption approach is heading towards problems with usability, availability, viability, interoperability and adaptability. This paper proposes a new time constrained System of Systems (SoS) discovery process and supporting SoS Canvas, developed with the objective of increasing the adoption of SoS principles with non-technical stakeholders. The time constrained SoS discovery process consists of raising awareness, capturing data, modelling the SoS, modelling the System of Interest (SoI) and providing recommendations, often based on common challenges and opportunities from the SoS Canvas. The outcome of this initial case study prototyping the process, is a set of SysML diagrams demonstrating how the constituent systems currently contribute to emergent properties and recommendations to improve both the SoI and the SoS. Future research will focus on interoperability within agricultural technology (Agritech) and the potential for a SoS level digital twin, providing the capability to manage and optimise emergent properties for the betterment of all.","PeriodicalId":121664,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 15th International Conference of System of Systems Engineering (SoSE)","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115411904","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the scheduling of the therapy, including the determination of the optimal biologic dose is usually based on empiricism. This paper contributes to an in-silico analysis targeting parameter optimization of LDM chemotherapy design. The in-treatment tumor growth model used by the analysis formulates tumor proliferation and necrosis, dead tumor cell washout, as well as pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of the administered drug. The model parameters are identified based on mouse experiments. The optimization goal is the minimization of the total amount of drug delivered throughout the full length of the therapy with governing constraints ensuring the efficacy of the treatment. Results show that a clear optimum exists in the scheduling of the treatments, that is, an optimal choice for the rest periods can be done. The optimum is independent of the length of the therapy, and only slightly depends on the parameter sets of the individual patients.","PeriodicalId":121664,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 15th International Conference of System of Systems Engineering (SoSE)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115467896","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The question is how to create and apply maintenance documentation more effectively to shorten delivery time, create cost-efficient systems and services. Our research is based on semi-structured interviews with stakeholders working with documentation, aftermarket services and engineering of subsea solutions. We transferred the interviews into needs, stakeholder requirements and personas, and draw the picture of “as-is” and “to-be” states. The paper clearly illustrates the current, manual way of producing and utilizing the documentation. A core contribution from this paper is the process of generating preservation, storage and maintenance documentation for complex subsea systems of systems. We propose a model for digital generation of required documentation. A need-based transfer to a digital process has a huge potential for enabling more efficient and effective maintenance and subsequent repair of the subsea systems.","PeriodicalId":121664,"journal":{"name":"2020 IEEE 15th International Conference of System of Systems Engineering (SoSE)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115723420","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
